Recent 2018 transformation....Toni has been with us for just over a year and has made some amazing progress in that time. Don’t forget your forearms and wrists when it comes to flexibility. Pull ups, deadlifts, curls and the rest (no jokes intended here btw ) it all takes its toll on an area that is so important when it comes to performance - your ability to keep grip for those all important extra reps and or kilos might come down to something as simple as forearm and wrist flexibility.
Perform each position as shown for 30-40secs 1-2 times pre during or post workout.

The Barbell Back Squat is in my opinion the daddy of the lower body exercises and provides great bang for buck in a programme helping to build strength, increase muscle and prevent injury. However it’s not the only tool at our disposal. Back squats are not for everyone, if you have restricted mobility across your shoulders and thoracic getting a bar on your back and maintaining a safe posture can be difficult. Similarly if your ankle or hip mobility is restricting either cor...rect depth or a safe bar path then perhaps this exercise isn’t the best option for you. Front loaded or machine variations are a great alternative that are easier to perform safely while giving you lots of strength building benefits.
Work on your back squat restrictions by identifying the problems you have and include the correct mobility and/or strength exercises in your programme to improve these issues, but substitute the back squat out for something that you can perform better. Here are some options to consider. Since I started going to PT sessions with Kevin I have been able to run a 5K under 30 min which I'm ridiculously proud of as I had never achieved that before. I have also managed to do two half-marathons which has led me to attempt my first marathon this year. I go once a week and I am amazed how much everyone else in the group achieves.

With a bit of persuasion from my friend Linda, I signed up for my first buddy session, I am now away to start my third block. Wow can’t really put in words how far I’ve actually come. That first week Michael must have thought “challenge”. I can honestly say that my strength has greatly improved and I can actually squat! I would recommend the gym and PT sessions. Michael your a star putting up with my moaning each week!!

I've been training with Kevin in group PT for about 4 months now. I'd never trained in a gym environment before and had no experience of PT. The gym is very welcoming and not intimidating in the slightest. The trainers are all very knowledgeable and I've thoroughly enjoyed the training. I've been training at BSPT for around 4 years now and the team and members are just fab! When you walk into the gym you see everyone enjoying their sessions whether they're at PT or in classes. The banter is off the scale too and the events Barry and his team organise are the icing on the (prepmyfood) cake. I've been going to PT sessions with Kevin for a few months now. As I'm recovering from injury he uses a very considered approach. Unlike most I've not lost weight but i never thought i'd be able to do a decent squat and definitely not a deadlift because of my knees and back! A very friendly and unique gym.

I have been training with Micheal for a the past few weeks now. I have always enjoyed fitness classes and cardio but was a bit lost when it came to strength training. Micheal has helped me gain confidence using weights and helped me be less intimidated by weights room. He is very focused on correcting technique and making sure I am getting the most out of my workout. I have noticed a change in my strength and am keen to continue making progress. By far the best group of trainers in Aberdeen, all with their own style and approach to training but all extremely knowledgeable, motivating and able to get the best out of their clients. Everyone has their own goals, and I’ve seen so many people (myself included) achieve them and everyone supports each other to do it. I started group training with Bruce in 2016 and have since moved onto 1:1 training and I LOVE it (as much as I moan about it, I really do enjoy it). I have well and truly been taken out my comfort zone! Bruce is an amazing trainer, who can even get the laziest of people (me) motivated.
