The CaringAide project is an exciting and innovative project we are working on aiming to help vulnerable people live in their own homes for longer. Often vulnerable people, such as the elderly or those with learning difficulties, are left with little option but to move into sheltered accommodation due to concerns over their well being. Often this change involves great expense to the person moving and research suggests it also often results in a deterioration of the supported person's health. Our system aims to allow people to stay in their own homes for longer by using intelligent software that can create individual profiles of the supported person's activities of daily living and raise alerts on anything that is of concern. Such a system will also be able to detect underlying illnesses that would often go unnoticed in sheltered accommodation. What's more this system is being developed to work with 'off the shelf' hardware making the cost of the system affordable to all those who want it.
