Carmelite Hotel, Bar And Grill

Won a competition for a meal for 4 at the Carmelite hotel yesterday and can’t thank the staff enough they are a credit very attentive friendly and so helpful the food was also lovely I’ve dined at the Carmelite before and couldn’t fault it then after yesterday I’ll make a point of going back soon Thankyou again.

What a wonderful find here in Aberdeen. . From the extremely accommodating staff to the tasty food & beverages, we highly recommend checking this place out. Unique & original decor, vegan & vegetarian options for those of us who prefer not to eat the traditional haggis & blood sausages. Management was very attentive to our requests & made every effort to guide us in all things historical in the area. Thank you Carmelite Bar & Grill!

We travelled here from Bristol and stayed in one of the suites, we had an amazing time. A truly different hotel with imagination and attention to detail. The food was delicious and the staff attentive. Well done to the owner and staff for a weekend in Aberdeen to remember and a hotel room that actually made me smile as it was so different from the norm . Thankyou

I organised a surprise meal for my partner, staff were great, was an excellent meal, and they made out menus for the evening with her name on it, took professional group photo with the Birthday girl that can be printed out as a momento and all in all we couldn’t have asked for a better night, big thank you to the staff on the night, they even memorised who was drinking what, absolutely amazing, would highly recommend the Carmelite for any special function, we were in The library room which held 30 people comfortably , lovely room and decor!! Thanks again folks!!!

I organised a girly Mad Hatter’s Tea Party outwith the library function room and I absolutely loved it! The decorations were incredible, my girls and I were all blown away! The service, food and cocktails were all outstanding. Especially Michael he was lovely. Nothing negative whatsoever. Thank you for making my birthday wonderful!

Had our wedding reception in their main function room. It was done up beautifully, everything ran smoothly and no stress was had. All just good fun. Had the buffet in the library which was as tasty as our sit down meal. Attentive staff all round.

Good fun hotel, the blue bon bons are lush! Remote control helicopter, jelly beans and Jenga on the bedroom with slipper bath wet room and mint shampoo is cool! Surf and turf most enjoyable along with rhubarb and ginger gin mmm thank you guys!!

Another fantastic evening at the Carmelite. Food was amazing and the staff were as normal really attentive and very friendly. I can highly recommend going here.

It pains me to write a bad review as we had a wonderful wedding here several years ago but I feel that the standards and cleanliness has dramatically dropped recently. I really hope that things improve and this independent hotel can rise up again to be one of the top venues as it used to be!

First time here & looking forward to it as we’ve heard a lot about this establishment all good I hasten to add! But today was disappointing drinks were served (soft drinks) but arrived flat went to bar & had to wait sometime before I was acknowledged only to be told they didn’t understand how that had happened as we were served bottled drinks but they gave us fresh drinks that were not chilled as they didn’t have any in chill cabinet!! (25 degrees this afternoon) Diet Pepsi not anything unusual! Ordered food which was nice not outstanding had better from cheaper restaurants! Decided to treat ourselves to a dessert asked for dessert menu only for staff to hand over immediately but had to wait over 20 mins to order then another 20 mins for the desserts to arrive which were warm not hot. Then asked for bill waited & waited asked staff member again & brought this to her attention specimen vouchers were handed over as a thank you well no thank you. Won’t be going back again service so poor it was a joke! Disappointed customer true what they say about first impressions!!!

After asking for recommendations on where to go for afternoon tea I booked for 2 for a presecco afternoon tea. Arrived to be seated at a filthy table which was then cleaned and served out coffee (cold and no sugar) we understood it was busy and trying to get someone was a nightmare. No presecco either. Cakes and sandwiches were absolutely awful only took a nibble out of a sandwich and left everything else. Then to try and be charged £40 for a presecco tea which we never had.

We travelled to Aberdeen on Saturday for my daughters hen weekend and were booked into the Carmelite for the Mad Hatters tea party. We were reprimanded on numerous occasions by the member of staff who spent so much time in our private room I started to think he had been invited to the party rather than just working there. At one point while playing a party game I turned around to see him having a good laugh and apparently thoroughly enjoying our company. He did not however find our blow up doll funny and asked repeatedly that we move him from the window as he would upset people in the street. The doll was happily moved to a chair but above mentioned gentleman barged in and moved the chair from view of diners in grill area as once again it was deemed offensive. We therefore closed the curtains at the door of the room in order to block off our “offensive” behaviour, but staff made a point of frequently flinging them open. A bottle of prosecco which was paid for as part of our “party” package was taken away before it was even opened. The member of staff was actually asked to leave the room by one of our party in the end. The entire party left over an hour earlier than we were meant to. However before escaping staff tried to charge additional money despite the fact it had all been paid for in advance. The bridesmaid managed to prove this by showing her online banking where the charge was clearly displayed. We went to a small pub across the road where we were not only allowed to enjoy ourselves but were encouraged to do so by the lovely staff there. Thanks Spirit Level for a good afternoon. Carmelite - never again.

We stayed here for a night in February, and were put in the noisiest room ever (room 312). Management were obviously aware that the noise was awful as they “helpfully” stocked the room with two sets of earplugs. We raised the issue on checking out and were fobbed off. Subsequently we wrote to the hotel manager, and to date have received no response or acknowledgement. Would never stay here again.

The worst meal & service I've had in a very long time. Mothers day menu was limited, the service was non existent, the meals were bland & microwaved, coffee was cold, profiteroles were frozen & grapes on cheese board were mouldy.

After 3 complaints during our meal was offered 5% discount. After reconsidering received 50% off which was still not enough. My 15 yr old never ate anything and she was treating me for mothers day, extremely dissappointing for her, we Will never go back.

There were actually more staff than customers, so no excuses, management were uninterested.

Most places who offer special occasions have extra touches like chocolates, free fizz etc ...i would of settled for food that was edible!

Terrible experience considering the amount of money that was spent. Staff were rude and offensive and people left as they were having such a bad time leaving a lot of food and drink. After complaining staff were unhelpful and did not seem genuinely apologetic at all. Will not be back and will advise everyone else to stay clear too. Also I would recommend popping a post up on your website about not being happy with large parties booking because people want to have a good time not sit like they are at a wake. If we were aware of this we would never have booked here.

Stayed here for three days. Asked for the shower to be cleaned twice! Room was filthy so I cleaned it myself. Dirt and dust on EVERY surface. Mattress was in a disgusting condition, covered in what appeared to be urine stains (amongst other things) and not fit for purpose. Rosie (housekeeping) actually asked us if we had sex!!! How rude! She also said that we would have to pay for the mattress. The room was small, very small and doesn’t look like anything on their website! Some of the staff were beyond rude! Thank you to Ryan (duty manager) for his understanding and common sense this morning. Three days of hell in Aberdeen. Certainly won’t be returning to this hotel.

Been twice, both times it has taken aaaages to be served and have been forgotten about on both occasions. Good but not special food, friendly but not attentive staff, no acknowledgment on arrival and on leaving. Lacking in the basics! Shame as great location and venue however this is wasted as the rest is mediocre. Staff don't seem to care or know how to engage with customers, pity!
