About Encounter Peterhead
Encounter is a community hub in the old Happit shop in Drummer’s Corner, Peterhead.
Encounter is open 3 nights a week for anyone up to the age of 25!
Encounter Peterhead Description
Encounter:
Encounter is a community hub run out of the old Happit shop in Drummers Corner, Peterhead. It was first established as a youth café following the Choose Peterhead consultation, in which a hub for young people in the centre of town was identified as a key priority.
Since then, Encounter has expanded to also include a language café for people to learn English and practice speaking with locals, and an opportunities café for young people to gain advice and help.
Youth Café:
The Encounter youth café runs three nights a week providing young people with fun and diversionary activities as well as access to advice, signposting, and volunteering opportunities.
The youth café is free and open to anyone under 25. It is a safe, fun place, for people to come and relax, socialise, and make friends.
Activities include: Basketball, stilts, circus skills, pool, table football, table tennis, colouring in, chess and Wii. Snacks are also available to buy.

Language Café:
The language café runs alternate Wednesday mornings and evenings and offers a place where you can learn English and practise your speaking skills in a relaxed 'cafe style' environment.
Each week participants choose the topics and grammar they want to learn then practise with native speakers.
The language café is free to attend and all levels of English speakers are welcome.

Opportunities Café:
Running every Thursday afternoon, the opportunities café is a great place for young people to find advice on money, jobs, and training. It’s free and open to anyone aged 15-21.
The opportunities café is a relaxed environment where young people can also play pool, table football, and ping pong and also offers them the chance to be heard in the wider community.

At CircoModo you learn different circus skills such as juggling, plate spinning, stilt walking and fire performance while building trust, friendships and gaining accreditation.

CircoModo is free and open to all young folk aged 10-25.
There's still time to come along and try out some new circus skills while making new friends and building confidence and trust. You can even help create a routine and perform at Aden-een, the Shell Fireworks Parade 2018!

Did you know that since Encounter opened, crime in Drummers Corner has dropped by a massive 46%!
... Here's what George Cordiner, Buchan Area Inspector had to say about the matter:
"I have no doubt that the work of Modo has been a significant contributor to this reduction. Their tireless work in Peterhead Town Centre has been a great benefit to Police Scotland in both demand and resourcing. Modo have been able to engage and divert and large number of young people away from ASB which has had an overwhelming positive impact on the Town Centre."
