Food Standards Scotland Description

Food Standards Scotland (FSS) is the public sector food body for Scotland, established by the Food (Scotland) Act 2015. We are here to ensure that information and advice on food safety and standards, nutrition and labelling is independent, consistent, evidence-based and consumer-focused.

FSS is an independent public body working for consumers in Scotland. On 1 April 2015 we took on the functions that had previously been carried out in Scotland by the Food Standards Agency. Our primary concern is consumer protection – making sure that your food is safe to eat, ensuring you know what you are eating and improving nutrition. We do this by developing policies, providing advice, keeping consumers informed, and ensuring the enforcement of food regulations.

Very informative keeping you up to date with the latest food safety related news

I will very seldom talk about my illness publically, but having seen some reviews regarding a resent advertising campaign by FSS, as a sufferer of diabetes I will say that as a sufferer I am by no way offended by this campaign. Good Work! 👏🏽👏🏽

User

Food standards plays a vital role in society. Most big companies wont give a fuck what they put in food so we need organisiations like this to keep em in check.

User

Brave stance on diet and health in the new TV advert. Much needed. Unfortunately the confusion over the incorrect links between diet and type 1 Diabetes compared to the increased risks of diet related to the onset of type 2 diabetes has displaced its importance.

User

total waste of money

User

Waste of tax payers time and money.

User

Terrible advertisement. What a stigma to attach to a small child. It's not her fault she might get an autoimmune disease like Type 1 Diabetes as it wasn't mine either when I was a teenager!!!!!

User

Ok what do I think of FSS absolute joke of uneducated people who seriously need to take a good look at what there doing. Re Diabetes advert. Are you serious by insinuating chocolate causes diabetes. My 10 year old is diabetic type 1 and has been for two years now I have a government agency insinuating that as parents we caused this point 1 diabetes 1 is an auto immune condition oh and yes you did say this refers to type 2 diabetes in the smallest of writing news flash not in all cases of diabetes 2. Maybe educate yourselfs before flinging around ideas in your wee offices. Big dissapointed to signed by a #diabadassmum

User

New campaign really leaves alot to be desired. This message was patronising when Morgan spurlock did it 14 years ago. Do you guys really think there are people out there supersizing orders while simultaneously wondering why they got fat?.

User

It's not promoting healthy lifestyle to stigmatise children with Type 1 Diabetes. Badly done!

User

If you cannot get the basics of Diabetes correct then how can anyone trust the information you are meant to provide. Mind you, not like any government agency to provide any truths. Absolute clowns with head in sand attitude..

User

Hard to take any organisation seriously, when it's telling type 1 diabetic children that it's their fault because they ate too much chocolate... What other campaigns are based on false information?

User

Food safety . Not nanny state. Do your job you fuckwangles .

User

Disgusted with your recent advert! Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune condition not caused by diet. A small subtitle stating you are referring to Type 2 is not good enough what about the children watching it that cannot read. You are adding to misconceptions that type 1 diabetes is caused by poor diet which may lead to bullying. My son was a mere 3 years old when diagnosed with this life threatening auto immune condition. This add is completely irresponsible.

User

Disappointed with your latest Advert campaign.

User

Appalling misinformation on new adverts that falsley links eating sweets with developing diabetes .This will lead to further bullying of kids who have to live with this awful heartbreaking chronic condition . 98% of children who have diabetes have type 1 .Type 1 is unpreventable and not linked to diet . We already have to put up with ignorant comments from adults and children who already have misconceptions of what diabetes is and how it is developed . This campaign futher fuels this misperception. Putting a tiny tag line about type 2 on the advert that most people will miss in no way makes this advert acceptable as the child still clearly say "diabetes" as if it is just one disease and not a group of very different conditions. We go through so much heartbreak already as parents of T1 kids and kids with T1 we do not need our burden to be increased.
