Glenshee Ski Centre Description

Glenshee Ski Centre (Scotland)

Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest ski resort in Scotland and is sometimes referred to as the Scottish three valleys. It is located in Aberdeenshire and to the north of Spittal of Glenshee, on the A93 road between Blairgowrie and Braemar in the southern Highlands of Scotland. With 22 lifts, 36 runs and limited snowmaking capabilities it is the UK's largest snowsports resort.

The ski area is just north of the Cairnwell Pass at the head of Glen Shee on either side of the A93 road. The western sector is a bowl encompassing The Cairnwell (933 m) and Càrn Aosda (917 m) mountains. The eastern side extends via Sunnyside onto two further mountains, Meall Odhar (922 m) and Glas Maol (1068 m). Most of the area is served by a panoramic webcam. The main ski centre buildings are at an elevation of 650 metres.

The resort covers 790 hectares and has 40 km of pisted runs graded as 8 Greens, 13 Blues, 13 Reds and 2 Blacks. There are three chairlifts, three T-bar lifts, and the remaining sixteen are button lifts, mostly of the Poma type.

The Glenshee 9 is on tomorrow Sunday 5th Aug. This is a 33km hill race taking in 9 peaks around the ski area with an overall vertical climb of 1800M - completely bonkers but an amazing challenge to take on. The winning times are expected to be just over 3 Hrs. Approx 200 runners will be taking part so come up and cheer them on. The chairlift is open so you don't have to run to the top of the Chairlift to see them. Take a return ticket or a one way if you fancy a 40 minute walk back down. Weather's looking like we might even have some sunshine for it. The race kicks of at 11AM.

This beauty Ford Model A turned up this afternoon, we'll on its way to completing a world tour. #afordaroundtheworld We wish it luck and hope the water leak was nothing major.

Often we get asked what we actually do in the summer. So here’s a little update. These pictures were taken yesterday of pylon three on Caenlochan being taken down for renewal. Two other pylons are being dismantled and the bottom drive station.

Beautiful views from the Chairlift today. We're now open with the Chairlift running and on a day like this it doesn't get better. Stop in and take a trip to see across the Cairngorms from the top. A great walk down as well.

User

Brilliant place for young and old kids, spent the afternoon there with family and pooch, only quibble no trash bins at parking areas,(there were plenty at cafe) plenty dogs up there, My pooches was bagged and taken to nearest bin

The area that they could improve upon is the on site cafes.

No allowance for people with dietary requirements.

My wife was told we couldn’t stay in the cafe even after paying £5 for 2 cups of tea and eat our sandwiches for 5mins, even though they couldn’t supply anything that was gluten free.

User

Really helpful and patient staff on the beginner slope runs.
