About His Majesty'S Theatre

Aberdeen's eminent theatre

His Majesty'S Theatre Description

His Majesty's Theatre (HMT) was designed by the eminent theatre architect Frank Matcham and opened in 1906. HMT attracts a wide and diverse range of top quality theatre productions from musicals to top class drama and dance.

The theatre seats around 1470 people and was reopened in September 2005 following a major ┬Ż8million re-development . The redevelopment successfully added a modern aspect to an historic Edwardian building and the new facilities have brought the theatre to life both day and night offering 21st century theatre goers a truly memorable experience.

HMT is operated by Aberdeen Performing Arts, a charitable organisation which also operates and manages the Music Hall, The Lemon Tree and Aberdeen Box Office.

A glimpse behind the scenes of Scottish Opera's Rigoletto which is with us at His Majesty's Theatre this November.
Award-winning director Matthew Richardson (The Devil Inside 2016) and Olivier Award-winning designer Jon Morrell revive their powerful production of VerdiŌĆÖs masterpiece. Set in a dark and dangerous underworld where cruelty and inhumanity are rife ŌĆō and women are objects merely to be played with and discarded ŌĆō it tells the tragic tale of seduction, revenge and a fatherŌĆÖs suffocating love for his only daughter with a clarity that is completely compelling and utterly heartbreaking.

Well worth seeing

Plus the dogs were very cute only thing was would of been nice to see more of bruiser

User

Went to see Legally Blonde last night and it was absolutely amazing! Great actors/actresses and amazing singers! Truly deserved standing ovation at the end ’┐Į

User

Went to see Jane Eyre with my mum, which was an incredible production! Also thank you so much to all the staff who helped my mum (she's in a wheelchair) and I so that the experience wasn't stressful at all. Xx

User

Was brilliant nonstop laughter all the way through would highly recommend it if you are in Blackpool as thatŌĆÖs where it is going next.

User

Was at their backstage tour yesterday hosted by Lesley & Jane. It was absolutely amazing and extremely interesting. Lesley asked us all to stay silent for 15sec as that would be the only time when you would literally hear a pin drop! The slop of the stage was much more than realized. If someone dropped a ball it would roll toward the orchestra pit!. I made fitments for the dressing rooms many moons ago, probably been replaced several times since. Would highly recommend their backstage tours to anyone, tourists and locals alike. Thank you, Lesley and Jane.

Loved loved loved Flashdance tonight. Great cast, wonderful singing, amazing dancing, cool sets and a well deserved standing ovation that had us all dancing - I loved every second of it and would like to go again tomorrow.

Not too be missed

IŌĆÖve seen hundreds of productions over the years, but I can honestly say that Sunset Boulevard is the best show IŌĆÖve ever seen. Ria Jones and Danny Mac were absolutely outstanding. IŌĆÖm still buzzing!

User

I took my mum (72), daughters (21 & 17) to see Legally Blonde last night. We all loved it!

My youngest had lost a bit of her ŌĆ£sparkleŌĆØ recently and I was so happy to see her laughing, smiling, singing and dancing all with a twinkle in her eyes.

Paulette was our favourite but everyone was fabulous - didnŌĆÖt want to go home.

Thank you

User

I thought the start was a bit weired when girl was crying like a baby but i totally got into it after that it was absolutely amazing for only a few actors and actresses the talent they have got was just brilliant I read the book of Jayne Eyre and it was so different on the stage I have to say I loved the dog pilot very funny bits

User

Had my first trip for years to the theatre to see Mama Mia with my daughter, great service, nice theatre, show was just excellent start to finish with a very enthusiastic cast and fabulous dancing and singing !! Well done to all the cast and staff at ticket office and in theatre.

User

Did the backstage tour this morning. So interesting, fab tour guides, great value for money. Would definitely recommend doing the tour to anyone +++++

User

Brilliant theatre, and the restaurant upstairs, food was gorgeous xx

User

Absolutely amazing! Everyone was spectacular. But Twanky had to be our favourite’┐Į.my son Daniel was on stage at today performance and it was an amazing experience for him. Thank u very much for more fab memories.

User

I always enjoy going to the theatre and the production of "Rip it up" was excellent.

The only complaint was sitting in the balcony we had restricted viewing and couldn't see the screen on stage which was somewhat annoying.Wouldn"t recommend the balcony but the performance was still good.

User

Gangsta Granny was a great show, enjoyed by the adults and children in our party.

However, I wasn't impressed by some other aspects of the theatre.

The theatre was very stuffy and uncomfortably warm.

I bought 2 bags of sweets for the kids, which cost me an eye-watering ┬Ż4.50. These bags in the shops cost ┬Ż1.00 each, so your mark-up was totally over the top.

I was also charged a ridiculous amount for a Capri-sun juice in the dress circle bar at the interval. I understand the price has to include a small charge to cover your overheads, but again it was just too much.

The ladies toilets were dirty and smelly. There was toilet paper all over the floor. I was at the toilet prior to the show and during the interval, and sadly they had not been cleaned during this time.

I won't be rushing back.

User

Saw Jane Eyre...the set was unexciting. ...the acting variable...the constant running and leaping about was exhausting to watch and was completely unnecessary ..the costumes were unexceptional. ..the parts of Adele and Pilot were excruciating. ...the whole thing was far too lengthy...not something I would ever hope to see again....

Went to see queen of the night last night, thought the act was superb but was extremely disappointed with how the staff were to myself & also other women who were attending the event , to snatch a plastic bottle off of a pregnant woman on the way in was ridiculous & may I also add the water was purchased on your premises to be asked to leave because you are singing & enjoying yourself is out of order needless to say I wonŌĆÖt be back & I will not recommend you to anyone else

User

Hi I was at Whitney Houston, queen of the night on Saturday. I had pre ordered drinks for the interval. When I went to collect my drinks I thought it was a disgrace that there was no staff standing keeping an eye. When I approached the table my 2 nips of vodka had gone and the people sitting around the table said they had been spilt, more like they had taken the nips. Anyways I also had ordered a coke and a lemonade for my sister (whoŌĆÖs is pregnant) I was outraged to see that they were also sitting open for anyone to tamper with! When I approached staff they couldnŌĆÖt care less! Disgraceful customer service! My sister couldnŌĆÖt drink her juice as I wouldnŌĆÖt allow it. SheŌĆÖs PREGNANT and you think itŌĆÖs acceptable just to have open drinks sitting around? What would you do if somebody got spiked?

User

For the first time ever! We could not sit through the second half of the show flash dance. The only part of the first act that was enjoyable was the scene of (Tina) singing I love rock & roll.. our night was only made better by talking to Carol who was working at the foyer what an absolute lovely lady.
