Whilst we continue the laying out of the Labyrinth over the weekend our thoughts turn to sustenance! So this is just a wee reminder that we will be firing up the BBQ tomorrow and Sunday in the Courtyard. The usual delicious Cheynes of Newburgh burgers, hot dogs and giant 'shrooms.

Making great single malt whisky means selecting the finest oak casks. Here at Lindores Abbey Distillery we use a range of casks, including Old Forester Bourbon, straight from Kentucky USA. American Bourbon legislation means that they can only use the cask once, which means that when we get them they’re still really lively and have lots of flavour to impart into our Whisky.
So for today's #WhiskyWednesday Tim, our Apothecary tasted Old Forester.
Nose: Huge hits of spice, such ...as cloves and cinnamon. It tells me this Whiskey has a high rye content. I then get a big blast of overripe banana that’s been cut in half and grilled with demerara sugar on top.
Palate: This is such a deeply flavoured and buttery dram. To start with I’m getting salted caramel and rich toffee, followed by a big hit of spice. Some of that spice will be coming from the Virgin Oak cask, which also gives loads of vanilla and coconut flavours
I could happily pair this with a big ole slice of Apple Pie… A great American dram.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday 28th September and is Macmillan Cancer Support Scotland biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.
At Lindores we are asking our staff to bring in their homemade cake, bakes and creations which we will hand out to visitors, in return for a donation to Macmillan.
Last year alone Macmillan raised over £27 million and together we can make this another successful year.
... We will also have a ‘bake off’ with prizes to the staff member for the best tasting / best decorated / most fun cake.
Come along and join in the fun!

We are so lucky to have lots of wonderful whisky pilgrims like Jennifer, who visit us here at the distillery, and are always delighted to show them around. So why not come and book your own Distillery Tour and find out what goes into producing whisky. Once you’ve learned the ins and outs of distilling, you’ll be able to try two delicious drams for yourself. We even have take aways for the drivers!

Don't know about you, but we are dreaming about the hot sunny days we were enjoying a few weeks ago? 🍹
To remind you of those summer days why not try this Pineapple Juice, Aqua Vitae and Tonic water punch? This was an idea gifted to our Brand Ambassador Andy by the guys at The Good Spirits Co. in Glasgow.

This weeks #WhiskyWednesday is Ardbeg 10.
After easing into our armchairs last week to enjoy our ‘sherry bomb’, this week we’re grappling with a chunky ‘peat monster’ – the Ardbeg 10. The Islay Whisky’s are (mostly) defined by their smokiness, which is imparted to the whisky through the use of peated malt. The peat is burned in a kiln under the malt and adds a natural smoke to the Whisky. Ardbeg is one of the Islands more heavily peated malts, therefore quite rightly has earn...ed the moniker ‘Peat Monster’.
Nose:Bonfires on a beach. You get that real TCP hit on the nose too, which for the geeks amongst you comes from the phenols in the peat smoke. There is a floral undernote that comes through after the smoke, along with the thought that there could be some salty sea air.
Palate:BBQ pork ribs and hoisin sauce. Followed by something floral like Jasmine or Hibiscus. I also get charcoal and szechuan peppercorns.
Ardbeg 10 defines Islay and is the perfect accompaniment to a dreich Scottish evening. Is it time to light the fire yet...?

Brilliant tour. Amazing history lesson, the attention to detail in the distillery has to be commended. Friendly staff. Even if you are not a Whisky Drinker the restaurant and exhibits are worth a Visit. Can't wait to return esp to taste and buy some more Aqua Vitae. There is also a tantalising secret about to be revealed apparently!!!

User

Amazing history for Fife to have and now a fabulous attraction with the added bonus of whisky at the end of the tour. Thanks to Ronnie for showing us round. Lovely place. Such a shame we had to dash off for the bus. Can't wait for the end results. Everything crossed for you all. Stay nearby @LindoresStay #notfartostumble :)

A working museum masterpiece offering its own original whisky in ten years time. In the meantime and while you wait, instead of producing a gin, a percentage of Lindores' new make spirit will be put aside to produce 'aqua vitae'. A malt spirit macerated with local herbs like sweet cicely, which grows abundantly on the banks of the River Tay. Eventually, fruit from the Abbey's newly-planted orchard on the adjacent hill side, will also be incorporated. A new taste of Scotland's national drink worth waiting for. May the path on which you wander. Be to you a joy each day. Haste ye back, we love you dearly. Haste ye back on friendship's way.
