This week is Mental Health Awareness Week.
Remember that your brain is just another part of your body, and as such, it needs looking after. Just as we regularly take care of our skin, teeth, hair or other physical aspects, make sure you regularly take care of your brain to help promote mental wellbeing. It might be doing something you love, taking 5 minutes to enjoy the fresh air, or just checking in with yourself everyday by asking ‘how do I feel right now?’. We all have mental health, so take care of yours. And remember - there is always someone at Maggie’s to talk to about how cancer might be affecting your mental health.

Nutrition Workshop – Friday 17th May 10am-12midday
Here at Maggie’s Aberdeen we offer a Nutrition workshop once every month. Julia, a Dietitian, leads the workshop and will offer practical support about eating well for people with cancer and their families and friends. A Healthy lunch is included and each workshop covers topics such as balanced diets, types of foods that are particularly good for you and why, and the best ways to eat both during and after treatment. Particular attention will be paid to treatment-related eating challenges. There is always plenty of time for questions during the session and we can give you information to take away.
For further information or to book a place please contact the Centre on 01224 645928 or email aberdeen@maggiescentres.org

A few people have been asking if they can still sign up for Culture Crawl on 21st June - yes you can! 😃 - and if we can reveal the start and finish points for this year's route - yes we can! 😁 This year's BRAND NEW route starts at Aberdeen Beach Leisure Centre and will finish at the Linx Ice Arena but any further detail about 2019's Culture Crawl Aberdeen remains a closely guarded secret! 🤐 This is the first year we have a CIRCULAR ROUTE 👍 making logistics for our wonderful walkers much easier, so what's stopping you? There are two ways to be part of the fun - sign up to WALK 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️the 10-mile route or sign up to join our merry gang 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ of VOLUNTEERS either way you're guaranteed a great night and will be part of something really special for Maggie's Aberdeen.

We meet many women living with ovarian cancer in our centres and have dedicated support groups for women to talk about the effects of treatment and how they're feeling with others in a similar situation. We're here for anyone who needs us, just pop in, the kettle is always on. 👍☺️

It was interesting to see on the news this morning that a survey suggests that getting creative can help to boost mood.
We are excited to announce that our new Expressive Art course is starting on Friday the 10th of May. The group is for anyone affected by cancer, including family and friends.
... Art Therapy is a powerful way to get in touch with, and process, our sub-conscious emotions. Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. On the course there will be an opportunity to engage with a variety of materials such as clay, paint, charcoal, pastel, wool, glue and glitter. No previous skill or experience is required.
No appointment is needed, you can just drop in. To find out more, please speak to a member of staff in the Centre or email aberdeen@maggiescentres.com . Alternatively, give us a call 01224 645928
