About Rnli Macduff

Macduff Lifeboat Station operates an inshore B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat. Our current boat is the Lydia Macdonald.

Rnli Macduff Description

Founded in 1860 Macduff lifeboat station has had several names and locations but since 1975 the station has been in Macduff.

We are unique in the RNLI being the only station to launch their inshore lifeboat by using a mobile crane. While our usual launch location is Macduff harbour, we can if needed drive our crane to any of the small harbours along the coast and launch from there.

We have a shop on site at the station which is open 2-4pm on Wednesdays & Saturdays from May to December.

We were launched by HM Coastguard at 14:22 this afternoon to reports of a vehicle in the water at Banff Harbour. On arrival at Banff our volunteer crew found a car in the water and were told that the occupants had got out of the vehicle and we're safe.
The crew checked the vehicle to make sure it was empty and then stood by as members of HM Coastguard - Moray removed the vehicle from the harbour with the assistance of a tractor.
Macduff Lifeboat returned to station, was recov...ered, washed, fuelled and returned to service by 17:00.
Remember if you see anyone in trouble in, on or near the water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. #respectthewater #999coastguard

We are sad to report the passing of Margaret Mitchell on Monday 12 November.
Margaret was a member of the Lifeboat Guild here in Macduff for many years and was President 1985 - 1998
Roslyn Mutch, the current Lifeboat Guild President said, 'Margaret was a valued member of the Macduff Lifeboat Guild for many years which included holding the post of President between 1985 - 1998.
... She also received her Silver Badge from the institution for her outstanding service.
Margaret continued to be a loyal supporter of Macduff Lifeboat after her retirement.'
All the crew at Macduff Lifeboat pass on their sincere condolences to Margaret's family.
Margaret's funeral will be on Saturday 17th November at Macduff Parish Church 10am - donations for Macduff RNLI

Unsung Heroes.
We often get called heroes for going out to save lives at sea. None of the crew feels that way, every one of us, from the shore crew, the launch authorities, the operations team to the boat crew are just doing a job. Somebody needs us because they are in trouble at sea and we go and do a job.
Now there are some real unsung heroes in the local communities, who support us in different ways, here is the story of one of them.
... You may remember almost exactly three years ago when our shop was broken into with the windows being damaged.
At the time we had a tremendous response from members of the public who made donations to us to cover the cost of the damage, the lost donations and loss of goods from the shop.
Shortly after we were contacted by SLJ Windows & Doors in Turriff who wanted to help us with the damaged windows.
We expected Stuart to come along and fix the damaged window in the shop. What we didn’t expect was for Stuart to replace every window in the lifeboat station with new frames and security glass.
Roy Morrison, our Lifeboat Operations Manager, said "we were expecting Stuart to come along check the windows and maybe fit new locks. We were totally shocked when he said he was going to replace all the windows for us, at no cost to the station."
Coxswain, Chassey Findlay added "we are hugely indebted to Stuart for doing this for us. Not having to pay for the repairs means that we don’t have to divert funds from our work saving lives at sea and educating people about safety near and on the water.
We really can't thank Stuart enough, he really is one of the unsung heroes that help to keep the RNLI here in Macduff operating."
From all at RNLI Macduff, thank you, Stuart.
If you are in the market for new windows, you could do far worse than giving Stuart a call.

It's time for your periodic reminder about red flares.
1 they are NOT fireworks and you shouldn't use them unless you are at sea and in danger.
2 they are not a fashion statement, we know that some members of HM Coastguard - Moray wear them, but they are *not* fashionable.
... Please do not let red flares off during the fireworks weekend (or any other time). It could set off an emergency search and rescue response. It is also a criminal offence to set one off unless you or your vessel is in danger on the water.
It should also be a criminal offence to wear red flares, North East Police Division

The RNLI doesn't charge for call outs. If you are on, in or near the water and need assistance, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Don't delay in making the call, if you think you may need assistance then let the Coastguard know, the sooner you do this the sooner we can be alerted and the sooner we can get to you.

Have visited a number of times 'in passing'. When the crew are present they are more than happy to stop and chat and show off their vehicle - must be very proud of it. Having visited the Gala on 20 August, I was impressed with the number of events and stalls. They must have a great organising committee!. Viewing the list of contributors and supporters who gave money or materials, the local community must hold them in high regard! Well done all!
