The Lemon Tree

About The Lemon Tree

Aberdeen's vibrant venue

The Lemon Tree Description

Originally a host to regular, strictly alcohol-free dances, the venue has always been a a popular local fixture. Its transformation to St. K's in the 1980s saw the dances continue while housing various community arts groups and a vegetarian restaurant.

The decision was taken by Aberdeen City Council at the start of the 1990s to create a permanent home for the burgeoning audience attending the city's rock, theatre and comedy Alternative Festival held annually. In 1992 The Lemon Tree was born, named after the pub which had existed on the site before the building of St. Katharine's.

The Lemon Tree is operated by Aberdeen Performing Arts, a charitable organisation which also operates and manages the Music Hall, His Majesty's Theatre and Aberdeen Box Office.

Was here to see hell's Bell's and had a thoroughly good time

User

More expensive than it used to be for drinks but band were excellent and that’s why I was there.

User

Made to feel welcome as soon as you enter

Staff and owners very friendly

Homely feel about the place

User

It is what it is , small intimate with good sound and a good enuf pint of Guinness at not to silly a price . You see who is playing , no big screens , it's just good ..

User

I was previously here 10 years ago for an Arab Strap gig which i don't remember much of, however, I am back again to see Dutch Uncles as part of the True North festival. The main thing i have to say is that the bar staff and staff at the front reception were more than helpful, oh and not forgetting the two girls who were going around taking photos for True North. I will hopefully return to the Lemon Tree again, hopefully it won't be another 10 years.

User

Huge thanks to staff at The Lemon Tree for hospitality and making my girl’s wee birthday catch up with pals special! Flutter show was cute and our 4yo really enjoyed, was lovely to hear their giggles!

Apart from today, the best gig I ever had was here too! Bring back Foy Vance please! X

User

Had a lovely visit yesterday with the 4 yr old we care for to see Flutter. He was struggling with the wait to go in and the interaction with the other children. I didn't get a name but i would like to say thanks again to the guy (duty manager maybe?) who discreetly made things easier for us... even down to replacing a lost sticker. Little things that go a long way ...

Great concert with Colin Hay. A real chance to get close to those playing in the lounge. First time at the venue great crowd and no issues getting served at bar. Bar staff and security were very welcoming especially at end when us weegies had to find a taxi back to our hotel. Thanks all for a great night. Cheers.

User

Great atmosphere, the music sounded great! The Lemon Tree is my favourite venue in Aberdeen. Good selection of drinks too, not too pricey!

User

For a small venue the beer choice is excellent as is the variety of entertainment on offer. Plus very friendly staff.

User

A great sound at The Smiths Ltd last night. Staff and bar service was good.

User

A great night seeing The South last night. Great set and good crown, apart from one chap who had had one too many sherbets!

User

Went to see The Skids, a punk band from my childhood and they were amazing 40 years on and a sell out crowd. Great venue but drinks are not cheap. Was charged £6 for a pint of lager.

User

Was at the Skids gig last night which was excellent. Great venue, but £3.00 to put a jacket into a cloakroom.....you cannot be serious!

User

Good venue, but yesterday was music that needed dancing to, but it was all seating, which spoiled it a bit, but the acts were good, and also word about the bar staff, they were keen but disorganised

User

Unfortunately doesn't compare well to Glasgow. Queuing system dreadful: apparently you're usually left out in the cold but on the night we attended we were crammed into the lobby. Play was Brilliant! Actors fab ( For the Love of Chekov) The veggie pie was revolting (Glasgow has a wee quiche) my partner had the 'meat' version which he said was equally nasty. Only cider that wasn't fruit flavoured was Strongbow: again a low grade drink. Pull your socks up Aberdeen.

User

I loved Colin Hay whom I went to see. The bar prices were very reasonable. My only complaint was the seating arrangement. I was glad to have a seat as I am disabled, but having to stand up every time someone wanted to go to the bar or use the toilet facilities was a nightmare! Just give the punters a bit more space please.

User

I enjoy PPP in Glasgow but the queuing and serving arrangement at the Lemon Tree is chaotic. The half-pint for Brewdog products is a nonsense.

Crucially, sightlines in the bar are dreadful. Unless you are there at noon on the dot with three friends, forget about being able to actually see the bloody play. There should be a reduction for restricted view, which I think applies to about sixty per cent of the seats.

Some actors also need to project or get miked up if they can't.
