As 2018 draws to a close, the Woodend Bowling Club Committee would like to thank all our members and volunteers who helped us with our various competitions, matches and events throughout the year. Without your help & support the year wouldn't have been as successful as it was.
During the year we continued to hold successful member events - Scottish evening, Quiz night, Xmas night, Coffee morning, ladies evening, gents golf day and our Family Fun day. This season also saw the ...club hold it's first joint venture with Hazelhead Primary to encourage children into our sport and we hope this will continue in 2019.
Our new President, Isla Gibb opened the green back in April and on the green, Woodend were very successful in external events. Our ladies won the ADLBA League for the first time since 2013 and our gents won the Bon Accord Fours Division 2 league and were runners-up in the Bon Accord Top 10. There was also individual successes with Kieran Craigen winning the Bon Accord SYBA Pairs and being runner-up in the Bon Accord U17 singles. The trio of Cameron Millar, Alistair Roy & Rory Thomson won the Bon Accord Triples KO beating another Woodend team in the final. Leta Strachan & Joyce Barkel represented Woodend in the final of the ADLBA Scott Pairs and were victorious . Unfortunately, we had no representatives at Ayr however we did have a few entries reach the semi-finals; hopefully we can improve in 2019. Finally congratulations to our members who represented the ADLBA and Bon Accord county teams during the season and a special note to our Bon Accord representatives Neil Anderson, Rory Thomson, Cameron Millar and Mark Smith who helped the Bon Accord reach the national Andrew Hamilton Trophy final for the first time in 44 years. We also had another successful Invitational Triples tournament sponsored by AC Morrison & Richards; this year Newhills won the event.
In our internal competitions, Neil Anderson won the gents singles championship for the first time and Valerie Keith regained the ladies singles championship. Sandy Gibb won the gents senior singles for the first time. Many thanks to all the players for playing the ties in a timely manner.
For early 2019, there are a couple of important dates to remember. On Saturday 9th February we have our Scottish evening in the clubhouse starting at 7pm. Then on Saturday 16th February at 11am will be our AGM and we hope as many members as possible will attend.
Finally, we would like to wish all our members, friends and followers a Happy New Year and a healthy, fun and prosperous 2019. We look forward to getting back on the green in April!!
