About Airshows Today

An airshow and aviation events journal by the enthusiast for the enthusiast!

Airshows Today Description

The airshow and aviation industry is large and varied around the globe.
Audience numbers for the 2015 airshow season amounted to an approximate 6 million people in the UK alone.
Although thee may be some challenging times ahead for UK airshows, with the growth of seaside shows, new aircraft appearing on the aviation scene and more 'themed' aircraft events, there is a great opportunity to appeal to the young.

This year's air show at Jersey was blessed with fine weather and an excellent line-up despite several key acts dropping out at the last moment. This free airshow continues to provide unique aircraft rarely seen elsewhere and the open evening at the airport allowed enthusiasts to get up close and personal to the aircraft. The fabulous Bank Holiday weather brought blue skies and high temperatures for the first airshow at the Shuttleworth Collection this year. Highlight was the Avro flypast by the Anson and BBMF Lancaster. Images by Mike Kerr

On Friday May 4 at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, BAE Systems' Avro Anson flew into the station for a photo opportunity with the Station Commander and base personnel. The aircraft has been repainted to represent an aircraft based at RAF Coningsby in the late 1950s when it was used for transport and general 'hack' duties. Station Commander Group Captain Mike Baulkwill met with BAE Systems General Manager Alison Ballard. He said “We are very grateful to BAE Systems both for hel...ping us meet our current commitment, but also helping us to commemorate a little known but still very valuable part of our history.” BAE Systems has a major facility at RAF Coningsby overhauling the service's Eurofighter Typhoon fleet. This Anson is one of only three currently airworthy from almost 11,000 built. The aircraft is based with the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden in Bedfordshire and made its public display debut in its new colour scheme at the RAF100 display on May 6.
