fantastic venue and surroundings. Lovely room, friendly and helpful staff. A very tasty and hearty breakfast in the morning. Scenic, comfy conservatory and patio area to front. All in all a very satisfying stay, the one let down was lack of power to shower but can't have everything can you? Would be highly recommended by myself and girlfriend! Keep up the good work guys!

User

We dicovered this hotel 3 years ago and we'll only stay here everytime we're in Twickenham for rugby or other events. It's a nice little hotel with pub where from the moment you step in the staff you meet couldn't be more welcoming and friendly.Rooms are comfortable and reasonably priced, parking is easy and the food is delicious! We just wanted to say thank you.

User

This was a last minute booking for my daughter and I and what a gem to find. Great roast dinner in the restaurant on arrival. Friendly and helpful staff. Our room was lovely, comfortable and well equipped. Tasty breakfast. A very relaxing place to lounge by the fire with a book. Would highly recommend.

User

First rate from start to finish. Our daughter goes to a local university and being from the US we were looking for a British home base and this is definitely it. Good bar ( pub), nice breakfast. Highly recommended.

User

Fabulous place to stay. Close to trains but not close enough that you hear them. Rooms were good, parking facilities easy. The in-house Pub was closed due to renovations but the ones up the road had a good menu.

User

Excellent. Went for a family meal. Booked very late. Found a table for 5 people. Served quickly, fresh cooked food from s wide choice. This was after a match at twickenham. Highly recommend the walk out of town

User

Absolutely delightful place with lovely staff.

User

Pre Twickenham Rugby stop that we frequent whenever we are here.

Nice location and decor. Food is great and 99% of the staff are superb.

Bar manager is an embarrassment though, getting orders wrong and not delivering ANY customer service.

We arrived early enough for a pre match meal ,whilst they were reasonably busy, should have been in plenty of time so we didn't have to rush to the ground with my 9 year old grandson. Manager was too busy trying to look important and getting in the staffs way. He didn't put through the food order properly and if it wasn't for 2 of the staff going above and beyond, we would not have got our meal at all, let alone in time to get to the game.

Stopped of for drinks and a coffee on the way back and the same guy forgot the coffee and we had to pester the staff again to get it sorted.

This is a great pub restaurant but if the staff weren't sorting out the managers mistakes, could easily become a disaster zone.

User

Very poor airconditioning in room, so made it very hot to sleep in at night after a warm day. No power to shower just a warm trickle. Breakfast was cold on arrival, and i had to ask for plates, bread, butter, glasses and juice on the self service table more than once from a a rather unfriendly young waiter.

Charged £20 on my card xtra to room rate on arrival, and only got an explanation why when i questioned it. It was Just in case i had something from the mini bar apparently!!!!!!!!! On the upside ,Lady at reception was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean and modern! And a lovely area of London! But Would not stay there again ! Keeping an eye on my credit card balance to see what i get charged as i NEVER touch a mini bar!

User

This hotel has the makings to be great, it’s in a beautiful location on the Thames with easy access and walking distance to both Twickenham itself the station and stadium, our room was clean and tidy. We paid £149 for a Saturday night, balcony room overlooking the Thames....

It is sadly let down by small details that could easily be fixed!

1. Litter around the outdoor seating areas, cigarette packets and butts in the plant pots at the entrance.

2. We booked a balcony room with view of the Thames... we had a ground floor room with a balcony however a view of the front car park, no river in sight!

3. Expensive food and drinks for a chain restaurant / pub.

4. Front of house/ hotel receptionist was difficult to understand and not particularly clear.

5. We were informed they stopped serving food at 10pm, when we went to order food at 8.55pm we were told they had stopped serving.

6. Breakfast was included(normally £12.00) but poor- 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 small mushroom, small pot of beans (about 2 fork fulls) 2 eggs and a slice of toast. If we’re being particularly picky- at least 4 mosquitos in the orange juice, when I asked for more the dirty ‘contaminated’ juice was left and not removed/ cleaned.

User

Once again no consistency on the food. Some times is good but most of the time is small portions and it takes for ever to deliver the food. Staff it's brilliant so where it's the problem

I went to a surprise 60th function on Sat 24th March ...firstly I tried to ring the hotel at approx 11.45am to find out about parking as site did not state about parking facility.... I rang continuously for 25 mins nobody answered any of the options 1 2 or 3 ...i gave up tried again 30 mins later ..this time I thought again I would try option 3 ....eventually somebody answered.... lady was helpful and advised me there was a few spaces out the front and an under ground car park at back which I was not aware of ...as used to go to pub many years ago when Popes Grotto...

Arrived at venue and we had a nice afternoon evening, but the bar service was so so slow, which you had to go to the main bar for drinks even though we had function room booked. I have worked in many a bar and club in my time and you would be serving pretty quickly and looking out for who is the next customer to serve ...seemed to me all that waiting atiquette as long gone..if you are there where the bar man has last served that person is next ....and could be in for a long wait....shame..

As the conservatory is lovely and venue is nice ....

Mind you when I went to come out the car park the barrier would not go up ...rang my friend and he said you had better go back into reception as they must have to give you a token... which shame the helpful lady earlier could of told me all that ... I went and got a code from reception she told me 4 figure code and press enter i said where do you do this as there is no code key pad by the barrier..she said it is on the right..

Well in the dark I was feeling round the barrier and nothing getting quite agitated thinking where TF is the key pad ...so went over to the fence and there is was but no light so you had to do feel & guess work to key in numbers & press enter ..and if you are right ..a little green light flashes up and up goes the barrier ...what a palluver ... something so simple could of been explained to me on 1st call .... so pub ok ...and car park is too once you know the procedure ...

I have been frequenting the Alexander Pope, and it’s fine predecessor Pope’s Grotto, for over 30 years, almost always when I have been attending matches at Twickenham. It has obviously changed over the years and is a comfortable pub these days in which to meet friends. However, whoever is responsible for the day to day management of the pub is consistently letting down the pub, their customers and the good name of Young’s.

Last year I attended on a match day for a few pints before the game and they did not have ANY ordinary bitter available all day. Nothing!! Bizarre. This is still a Young’s pub isn’t it? Yesterday I went again on a busy match day to be told that the ordinary was off as they were changing a barrel and it wouldn’t be on for 20 minutes!! When it was finally served the beer was so frothy that it took ages to settle and they were, effectively, serving measures that were about half an inch short.

I realise that there is more to life than beer and that, in the great scheme of things, this may not be important but if I was a member of Youngs’ management team, I would be ashamed that there was no one at such a high profile, tied house with the first clue about cellar management. You are doing yourself no favours.

User

Went on a Sunday lunchtime they had no Amstel or No Lemonade !!! Come on this is a pub sort it out

User

The company was the only good thing about dinner with my friends last night!!

The service was very slow and the food was very bland!! (I do however recommend the salted caramel ice cream although at £1.75 per ping pong ball sized scoop it’s a rip off)

The nice cosy atmosphere was ruined by a terrible singer who thought it best to shout the lyrics rather than sing them, encouraging the other patrons to become raucous!!

This place is lovely during the day but if you are looking for a lovely cozy atmosphere for drinks and dinner with friends then I would suggest the stadium on a match day would be a lot nicer!!

User

I have stayed at the Pope many times before but not for a few years. I booked for one night and planned to have dinner at hotel with father in law who lived local. On arrival we found it had had a lot of work done doing it up, and on room allocation we were initially happy with room. But we had a few issue. 1st. Door key car did not work so we had to get it re-coded. Then put on Sky TV is this did not work. Went to reception again and after 30 they still could not fox it. Then in bathroom it had lovely

Shower and hand bason both he electric fancy controls But the bason controls you could not get hot water or keep on for more than 1 sec which was annoying. Last room issue was light switch by bed did not work...We then went for dinner . We had a nice table in the conservatory

With plenty of room. We got our drinks at the bar and took them up our table. We then waited to take good order . After 35 mins I went to bar and asked it we could order. In another 10 I had to go and ask again for them to finally take the order. Then food then arrived in ok time. Starters were enjoyed by all 5 guests. We then waited anoth 25mins for mains to be delivered. I hadconfig of Duck. Which was worst Duck I ever had. I waited for staff to come and ask if ok but this never happened so I ended up eating parts . We then finished and had waited yet another 25 mins. It was getting far too late and we could not go through another long wait for desserts and so had to go to bar and ask for bill. Very disappointed. On checking out on following morning I went through my issues but no action done except the receptionist would let the manager know. But we have heard nothing. Hence my above review.

Hmmmm, can’t say we were impressed, everything looks really nice but overall it’s not great at all! Firstly the hotel in every single nook and cranny, needs a S E R I O U S

CLEEEEEEEEEEAN!!!!! I have pics! It’s utterly disgusting! The staff are fairly blaze and really don’t live up to what the hotel apparently strives for! Breakfast is less than appealing. Rather book room only and go to Starbucks for breakie!

Scatter cushions on beds, expected to be used as pillows. Pillows do not have pillow protectors on, shower in bath does not drain, once you are finished showering you can bath cos the water is knee high! The beds look like a mountain range once housekeeping have made them, the carpets are filthy the walls are filthy and the floor in the dining room wasn’t cleaned in three days while we were there! We took pics every day! The grout in the bathroom tiles is mouldy and the passages are disgustingly dirty! No hair dryer in the rooms! We paid less for other hotels and got a hairdryer!

I was also expecting a parcel to be delivered which I advised the hotel about and when the parcel arrived they refused to accept it and when queried, said person was suddenly a ghost and did not exist!!! The key kept deactivating and therefore you cannot use the lift or enter your room, the wooden floors are awful when you’re on the first floor as the room above can be heard as if it were in your room! The doors don’t have stoppers or springs on so they slam all the time especially when people come in late!!! There are only two pillows on the beds and when we requested two more we were told there were no pillow cases! The TV is horrendous and does not change channels unless you switch it off every time! The shower curtains are firstly so out of fashion and are disgustingly dirty! The only good things were the ample parking, the kingsize bed and the location!!!

Management is MIA and cleanliness is below zero if not non-existent!!! Not worth a revisit or recommendation ps. Who has a quiz on while the World Cup soccer is on in the same room....???
