Quite a varied breakfast for some little youngster this morning :) Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Talk about looking down on me ! Ive never been looked upon so worthless in all my days lol. I left feeling rather inadequate. :) :) Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Im sat near my field yesterday waiting for baby bobbin to come along from breakfast, when this little chap comes out of the dry stone wall and walks confidently out onto the gravel. I had already got my camera at eye level so just so very slowly turned to face him and click! It was comical as you can see on his face he simply hadnt noticed me and for 1 tenth of a second his mind went " oh ***%$! He though he was in serious trouble. He then shot of at the speed of light back to the wall but i managed to capture that split second of ' oh oh im in deep here!" Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Up there in my very favourite shots ive ever taken. This is Jenny wren . As i sat taking some garden shots of my gang i had the most magical moment that all the money in the world cant buy. Jenny after being busy for hours feeding her young decided to come sit feet away from me and settle down in the moss between the logs and then joy of joys decided to fall asleep , I'm sat there grinning from ear to ear and had the wonderful notion that there cant be many people who have a wren that will come and sit next to you and nod off - how special that is for me i cant put into words ....... Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Note to self : Don't put bird table too near a tree ...... Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Baby Bobbin posing for me today, shes really feisty and brave, diving in really fast to land on the table, chirping at me as if to say yeah? like a teenage kid , not scared of me at all ! lol I love her already! :) Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !
Spent a wonderful 20 mins this morning watching this very smart stag using his antlers to interlock with the branches and then quickly snap his head sideways knocking off the leaves. So clever! Brought to you by our friend and partner Villager Jim !

Writing this review on behalf of my mum in law. She stayed with you last night and was a little bit out of sorts this morning and you let her check out later for free. She and her friends cannot recommend your hotel enough. She said that it's clean and beautiful and more importantly the staff are amazing and went above and beyond in treating them so well. Especially the manager who kindly help this morning along with all of the staff. The ladies said that the breakfast was delicious. She said to thank you all.
Wow what an amazing venue , we had our wedding reception here last year and it was amazing , the whole team are so welcoming and friendly and Sharron is a star and couldn't do enough for us, she was always there to lend a calming word to us. We returned yesterday for a anniversary meal and we couldn't fault it one bit . Everyone again was really friendly and happy to help with awkward food choices, we can't reccomend this enough to anyone. Thankyou Alison house x
Wonderful place, very dog friendly, staff so welcoming and helpful, great food. We stayed in the “Oaks” which is a self contained apartment adjoining the main house. Clean, warm and comfortable. Fantastic shower and comfortable bed. Plenty of parking. Will definitely return later in the year.
We have just had two wonderful days here. The staff were really helpful and welcoming, even our 2 year old Labrador was made welcome! The food was delicious and the accommodation was very clean. We loved the location just outside of the touristy bits but close enough that we could walk. Will definitely be returning! Thank you for a wonderful relaxing stay.
We had the pleasure of attending a wedding here this weekend. The venue is lovely and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I really liked that there was a function room for the disco and a separate lounge with comfy chairs and sofas. This really added to the evening reception as it meant you could alternate between the music/dancing and sitting and chatting with other guests. During the day the gardens were thoroughly enjoyed by the children which was an added bonus.
The Alison House Hotel staff were fantastic, very professional , friendly people. The hotel is a lovely place, the bedroom was fabulous. The whole wedding event was brilliant, food great, DJ really good, great mix of music.
We had a great time, the breakfast was probably one of the best , if not the best we have been served in a long time, great place , great people, we will be back , thanks.
Dave & Pam.
Thank you to the lovely people at Alison House for a beautiful Valentine meal last night. Service, menu choices and quality of the food were all excellent. I have driven past the bottom of your drive every week for 20 years and never realised what a gem was lurking within! My other half saw your advert on Facebook and we took a chance . So very glad we did!
Thank you so much to Sharon, Nigel and all the rest of the lovely staff at Alison House. We had a joint party this afternoon for my sons 21st and my daughters 18th. The food was amazing and we were made to feel extremely welcome by all the staff - nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, Team Alison House - I will definitely recommend you to people.

Jean and I were married here on Saturday 28th. An amazing experience for us all at an amazing venue. Sharon and her team did an amazing job making our day special. Alison House is a beautiful building with superb gardens which made our photographer well pleased. Would highly recommend this venue
I spent the weekend from Thursday 1st March until the Sunday at Alison House with 11 quilting friends. We braved the snow to arrive there at lunchtime had a lovely warm welcome from Sharron and all the staff. The whole weekend was brilliant, really good food plenty of hot drinks during the day! and in the evening a lovely bar. We had a lot of fun amongst ourselves and with all the staff and they coped with all our funny quirks. Our 3rd visit will be in September & we are all looking forward to it.
I cannot speak too highly of this hotel. We had our wedding there and Sharon and the team did everything to make it an amazing day. All our guests loved staying at the hotel and we loved the personal touch and shall definitely be visiting again.

DOG FRIENDLY. stayed for the weekend with my dog 🐕 couldn’t do enough for us. Dogs made very welcome. Lots of dog walking and very central for Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton. Lots of dog friendly places to visit too. Dogs welcome in the bar and that’s where you can have dinner and breakfast. If you need to see pics. See my dog page on FB. Teddy’s touring Tales
Called in on the off chance to have a look round with some friends who are getting married there next year. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, showed us around the grounds and the bedrooms available to the wedding guests.
Our friends have made an excellent choice in their wedding venue.
We asked if we could have a table for lunch and although the restaurant area was full they set a table for us in the bar area. Sunday lunch was piping hot, very tasty and plentiful! Staff were very helpful. Couldn't fault it.
We attended a wedding here last Saturday. The grounds are the perfect setting and the weather was kind. The wedding party was in the marquee. This was beautifully decorated. The food was lush. We stayed overnight the room was what you expect for the AA rating. Breakfast was freshly cooked all the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We would stay again.
Overall an enjoyable stay, felt a bit rushed at breakfast though, felt under pressure to order hot breakfast before having time to look what was on offer.
