Freedom Leisure Mascot Jim Trainer visits Bakewell Pool

We only use the pools, which are clean and well heated. The family splash sessions are great, though can be busy. Changing facilities great for families, though more large shower cubicles please as showering with two children can be cramped in a regular cubicle!

User

The staff at the Arc are amazing. Thank you for looking after me on Monday.

User

The new gym is amazing, but not just the new equipment, it now caters for all, from the students from the local school and special needs home to the elderly sent on a gp referral for the equipment to the free weight section for those wanting to train that little bit harder. The staff are informative and friendly. Well worth the very competitive monthly debits!

User

Really good facilities for all. Big pool. Separate teaching pool. Lots of activities for all walks of life. Friendly, helpful and hardworking staff. I have the freedom pass which is really good value. I use the fitness classes which are available every day, the gym and the pool.

I've just completed the matlock triathlon after doing 8 weeks of triswim training with Jenny and the team. Jenny is a fantastic coach and has hugely brought on my technique and cut down my swimming times. I'm so glad I signed up for this, it gave me the confidence to do my first triathlon (which I was dreading but I loved it!) and I hope you do more coaching sessions like this one in the future. Thank you, Josie x

I take my daughter to the Mum and baby swim session on Monday’s and it’s great nice warm pool with toys and you get lots of time to enjoy the water & fountains are an added bonus! Facilities are clean & spacious with a baby changing station & toddler seat in most changing rooms, large lockers too, highly recommend

I mostly use the gym and the odd class. I have been a member for 5 years and I can honestly say that I have had so much support from ALL the staff, they are friendly and welcoming and as quite an anxious person they make you feel welcome. A very special mention to the gym instructors, Paul has been guiding me for 5 years and believe me, he deserves a medal! Great staff, great place

I have been coming to the Arc since it opened for badminton over 50s group,

aquafit . The staff are always friendly the facilities are kept very clean. .The instructors are excellent, James and Karen are so good everyone comes away with smiles after working hard with them. Also it builds friendships which helps the mind as well keeping the body working. Thankyou Arc

I attend loads of the classes such as insanity, meta-fit, triology, kettle bells, tone, spin, meta-fit (again) and fit ball. It's all brilliant. The instructors are all very friendly. It's social and it's a great laugh. I burn so many calories that I can go to the Balti every night and drink a bucket full of red wine. This explains why I look like Mr Blobby.

User

Excellent facilities on our doorstep, always clean with great staff, anyone who complains must have a very short memory, of how it was before, and how much local people worked and campaigned for new updated swimming pool centre

User

Did the new class TNT (Tim n Tyres) and it was absolutely great. The circuit lasted an hour with a warm up and finisher. There were progression and regression steps for all exercises if you found it too easy or hard. Really good stuff, the new classes timetable looks great! The upgraded gym is also top quality 🏋👌

User

I go swimming quite regularly at the arc and love it but yesterday the aqua fit class was so large the ropes were moved over to accommodate them leaving the swimmers very little room. I ended up getting out early as it was far too crowded. Maybe there should be a limit on how many are allowed in the class at one session to avoid this happening again.

User

Brilliant facilities, shame about the ignorant receptionists who can’t be bothered to even say hello, please or thank you!

User

Wow, teaching pool closed until April for an investigation? Add to that the repair time I guess we're teaching the kids to swim in the Derwent this Summer. You'd think the prices charged would cover some kind of gold maintenance contract. Perhaps the loss of profit will get things moving quicker. To be fair it's a tiled concrete pit, how much of an investigation does it need?..... oops forget about the Health & Safety shroud to hide behind.

User

I go swimming with my children regularly at the arc and always enjoyed it over other pools, today however I did not enjoy the experience due to terrible a receptionist who I have been spoken to like rubbish before, I showed her my tax credits card (low income) which I didn't realize was out of date but I had used previously and she snapped at me " we dont accept those and Its out of date" just just a simple sorry it's it's out of date would do!!! Fed up of seeing/being served by bitchy receptionists when everyone else seems to be nice. Talk about customer service. absolutely disgraceful.

User

My husband and I are trying to teach our 1 1/2 year old daughter how to swim. We try to take her regularly, however because we both work full time there are very limited times we can use the pool as it seems to only ever be available for clubs. We visited on Thursday and the bill came to £8.40, we got in the pool at 6.07 and we were out of the pool at 6.26. That 8.40 for 19 minutes worth of swimming, oh no wait the main pool was also shut off for public use so we couldn't actually swim.

I have written to the arc on several occasions saying that they should reduce the price for parent with young children and give you a wrist band so that you can only go in the baby pool ice you have say a green wrist band as it would cost us over £33 ever 4 weeks for little over an hour of swimming.

On average people with small children won't spend more than 20 minutes in the pool so this is an absolute rip off!!!

I was also promised by a staff member that a manager would call me to discuss this further and no one has bothered to contact me.

There are huge issues in this country with obesity, and from this we can understand why, people can't afford to pay these extortionate prices.

Oh and the amount of stuff I had stuck to my feet in the changing rooms was absolutely vile!!!

Thursday mornings parent and toddler swimming -

We attend the sessions every week with our 19 month old son, you’d expect parent and toddler swimming to be parents with their toddlers/babies.

Recently we’ve noticed that much older kids are in the pool on Thursday mornings.

It used to be a fantastic way to help a child gain confidence in water, whereas today I spent most of our time there trying to stop the kids (at least 12 years old) from jumping on our sons head, splashing him, and injuring him by throwing balls at each other and clearly not bothering where they landed. In fact, most toddlers and parents left the pool as quite frankly it was dangerous to have a young child in there.

I spoke to several parents who agreed that it was ridiculous and were shocked that none of the staff were doing anything.

The lad on lifeguard duty just sat there watching them, and it wasn’t til the duty manager appeared that he actually decided to get off his seat and have a word with the kids. That’s not acceptable at all - lifeguards are there to supervise the session and I believe they should be showing older kids to the main pool when small children are trying to enjoy their session.

If it’s a toddler session it should be just toddlers, that’s why we pay almost £5 each - for the pleasure of having a Pool to ourselves where our small children can have fun without being injured.

Why don’t you split the session into two? An hour for toddlers and an hour for older kids, and charge half the price ?

Also, as a side note - the changing facilities were absolutely filthy today. There was dirt all over the floors and when I put my hand on top of the shelf in the changing room to check I hadn’t left anything behind, a huge cloud of dust fell down - that had accumulated over quite a period of time, so obviously they are not regularly cleaned. Also, this cannot be blamed on a staff shortage as there were four members of staff around the pool, plus the duty manager.

Disgusted yet again the arc have let the pool out on a Sunday morning and let the family's of Matlock Down. this is about as much a public pool as eaton is a council school! They need to rethink there private hire policy. I and others end up complaining about this on a yearly basis with no response, ignorant .

Sunday mornings should not need individually checking, if the pool advertises family splash.

Brilliant facilities, shame about the ignorant receptionists who can’t be bothered to even say hello, please or thank you!
