We are so grateful for the work Baby Basics do and the service they provide. We are so lucky to be able to give out some of their new baby packs and witness the joy it brings to new families.

Some useful information if you are affected by pelvic girdle pain.

Look who popped into the Birth Centre so we could wish them luck just before their big day tomorrow. But don't worry we've not all been invited to the Royal Wedding there will be midwives and maternity support workers here to look after you and your royal wedding day babies.

We are always overwhelmed with people's generosity without you we could not have given out these lovely treats and more importantly without whom we would have no lovely knitted hats to keep our Barratt Babies little heads warm when they are born.

Please be advised we do not offer tours of the Barratt Birth Centre. We do not offer tours for many reasons including security and infection prevention and it is not possible to predict whether there will be an available room to show. Also it is not conducive to the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and as all you mummies and mummies-to-be will understand having a tour passing through whilst birthing your baby is not usually part of the birth plan. There are many photos and vide...os of the Birth Centre on this page and we upload more fairly regularly. We also request that you please avoid 'knocking at the door' to ask for a look around as you will be politely turned away as we are an active hospital ward providing care to women in labour and in the early postnatal period. Your co-operation in this is greatly appreciated and helps towards keeping the Barratt Birth Centre and Balmoral Ward safe, secure and calm. Thank you Barratt Birth Centre Team.

Would just like to say a huge thank you to all of the amazing midwives and support workers on the birth centre. Special thank you to Angela and Sheila who helped me bring my beautiful boy into the world. All the girls were so attentive, from helping me change the first pooey nappy, to just sitting and soothing baby Albie when I just needed a bit of sleep! You all made my first experience of childbirth a special one �

We had our gorgeous little girl here on 3rd march at 10.14pm and all we can say is the midwives were absolutely amazing kept everything calm and relaxed and let us follow our birthing plan to a T, Marj our midwife was amazing, so supportive and relaxing and we couldnt have done it without her thank you all so much for you support both during and after the birth of our baby girl so once again THANK YOU!!

We had our baby boy on 11th January 2018 at the Barratt centre and they were amazing!

The two midwifes that helped deliver our boy were the loveliest people and made me feel completely at ease, Thankyou to the team we had a lovely birth experience �

I was in the full swing of labour when we arrived but they still got the room and pool ready for us and we were lucky enough to be able to us this,

I would 100% recommend the centre to anyone who is thinking of using it and would like to say Thankyou to everyone that helped in our time there xx

We had an amazing experience, in the pool with lovely calming music on, I was extremely well supported during labour and afterwards. Making the most horrendously painful experience of my life one I’m am undoubtedly proud of and grateful for. I could not have done it without such wonderful people by my side. Thank you so much. Tracey, Sally, Louise, Chloe and Sarah. �

The midwives in the Barratt Birth Centre were amazing to us from start to finish. Thank you to Emily and Anna who never left me as we saw round the clock in the birthing room, and continued to stay with us when I had to be transferred to labour ward to have the baby. Post natal care back upstairs with you was also wonderful. Gemma Chant is doing well! Lindsey, Matt and Gemma xx

Our little boy was born here on lucky Friday 13th - and I can't describe how wonderful was this experience! Simply magical... yes, even with all the pain :) Pool, warmth, with gentle guidance and support of an amazing midwife (Miss Maiken - thank you! <3), it all made labour quick, peaceful and unforgettable.

I've never felt this secure and in really good care in any medical unit.

I can only wish for every pregnant women to be able to give birth in this place and welcome new life in its unique atmosphere :)

I went in to be induced and ended up already being in labour and was able to go and use the birthing centre! Our midwife was Kelly and she was incredible. I wish I was able to thank her again in person, our little Ottilie is amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better birthing expirence. Kelly went above and beyond and we are so blessed. Ottilie was born at 4:57am on 08/06/2018 Xxxxx

I went in in the early hours of Sunday, and was welcomed in by friendly midwives and felt like I was given the right support for me! My Labour was very fast and they ensured that I didn't panic, the pool was run while I being assessed so ready for me to get straight in! With the support I received I didn't need gas & air, had the skin to skin time I wanted and needed! I would recommend anyone to birth their baby here! I really can't thank them enough! X x x

I had our little boy on the 26 January at the birth unit just after midnight after getting to the hospital at 9pm. I had previously had a baby at the labour ward and while not a bad experience the birth unit really was something special.



From the moment we arrived I felt so relaxed and comfortable. Had the same midwife throughout labour until just before discharge who was amazing and supportive for both me and my husband.



We were checked on by other midwives too throughout if ours was doing notes or getting things which was great and they all made us feel at ease.



The atmosphere is relaxing as a birth can be and it was all at my body’s and babies pace which is what I really wanted.



Cannot thank everyone enough for the support and experience this time round. Would recommend the unit to anyone .

I had my heart set on a homebirth but the day I went into labour two other women went into labour! Making the call to tell my midwife I was labour was incredibly frustrating as I felt like it was history repeating itself going to the ‘hospital’ to give birth. I was dead set against it! I didn’t want another traumatic birth! But when I got to the birthing centre I was beyond impressed, I had the most magnificent birth. Calm, collected and I felt listened too and completely in control. LO was born within 4 hours just gas and air and I enjoyed every minute of my labour! Incredible team and facility ��

I gave birth to our second on the 11th of February 2018 at 41+3weeks. We were received by an amazing duo of a midwife team at a few minutes to 4am and had the baby in under an hour. I couldn't speak more highly of how wonderful and friendly and calming they were and just the overall lovely atmosphere at the birth centre. It was quiet, the room was fantastic (loads of space and clean) a really good halfway point between a home birth and being at a hospital. I loved the feeling of being in control and not having unnecessary medical interventions. Thank you for helping me have the natural birth I'd hoped for �� xxx

I gave birth to my first baby on 15th January 2018. From the second I walked through the doors of the birth centre I felt calm.

Our midwife, Lisa was utterly amazing and I genuinely can’t thank her enough for helping bring our daughter into the world. She stayed on past the end of her shift to see our baby arrive. Sally was also fantastic and helped keep my husband calm. The birthing room was perfect and I am so lucky to have been able to experience it.



The rest of the staff were incredible in helping me care for my brand new baby; the help I received was outstanding (Rebecca) and we were extremely well looked after. There are simply not enough words to thank everyone enough.

I gave birth to my daughter on the 18th January in the birth centre. Sheila was our midwife the whole way through labour to delivery and was great at keeping me calm. When the pool slowed things down she helped with other things to get it moving again and found a position comfortable enough for me to stay in until the end. Tracey was our midwife once she was here, she was so caring and helpful and enabled us to feel ready to go home shortly afterwards. Thank you �

I gave birth to my 2nd baby girl here on the 8.4.18



My experience was amazing the midwife that was looking after me was so lovely and calm , no pain relief was offered to me as I was doing everything on my own .. when the point came that I couldn’t cope anymore the midwife reassured me and my daughter was born minutes after. I was so proud of not having any pain relief and that I was Able to give birth in the pool ( which was lovely and warm ! )

I feel privileged to have had birth in this place!

My midwives were very nice and I was impressed with their loving side. My experience was fabulous! Absolutely fantastic, all women should have this level of care....I `am impressed by the attentions and care received by midwives . All of them have always been very kind, respectful,helpful, professional ... I felt I was never alone and there was always someone who understood what I was going through. It was a very much needed supportive group.

I would like to express my satisfaction in particular

to one midwife Giulia Barra . She is a wonderful person always very professional, very kind, sympathetic... She took good care of me beyond my imagination.what she did for me will be unforgettable.... I wish to have her as my midwives for any other babies in future!

I birthed our little girl here in the early hours of Sunday morning, I was totally amazed at how wonderful and supportive the midwives were not to just me but also to my partner. This was our first time so we were both rightly nervous but we felt so relaxed and calm throughout the whole experience.

I also cannot fault the aftercare team who were brilliant at answering all my questions about how to do this or that. Some of those questions now seem silly but it didn't matter who I asked they made me feel like it was the most important thing happening at that time.

I would 100% recommend the Barratt Centre for anyone to birth. We would also like to thank every single midwife who was involved in our care, you were all fabulous. Especially our dedicated midwife for birth (Kelly); I can't thank you enough for helping me bring this beautiful baby into the world.

Gave birth here last week 31.1.18 to my beautiful baby girl. I literally had the best birth, best experience and best time, I can not thank every one that was involved you are all amazing. During my pregnancy I have always wanted to give birth at the birthing centre, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was amazing! The staff were amazing, keeping me calm and relaxed the whole time even when I started to get anxious and panicky! We had a few midwifes over the period I was in labour (sorry I can’t remember all the names) but in the end we had Emily who delivered our baby and she was amazing! I can’t fault her care and we really want to say a massive thank you to Emily and the staff at the Barrett Birthing Centre � Baby Freddie was born on the 19/5 at 3:42!

Darcy Anne Collier was born here on 07th May and I could not have asked for a better birth. Kelly Emmerson was my midwife and was amazing throughout. We cannot thank her and all the staff enough! We welcomed our first baby into the world in a very relaxed environment, I was lucky enough to have a birth pool labour and then stayed the night in my own room with en suite. 10/10 service!! Absolutely fantastic, all women should have this level of care....I `am impressed by the attentions and care received by midwives . All of them have always been very kind, respectful,helpful, professional ... I felt I was never alone and there was always someone who understood what I was going through. It was a very much needed supportive group.

I would like to express my satisfaction in particular

to one midwife Giulia Barra . She is a wonderful person always very professional, very kind, sympathetic... She took good care of me beyond my imagination.what she did for me will be unforgettable.... I wish to have her as my midwives for any other babies in future!

I birthed our little girl here in the early hours of Sunday morning, I was totally amazed at how wonderful and supportive the midwives were not to just me but also to my partner. This was our first time so we were both rightly nervous but we felt so relaxed and calm throughout the whole experience.

I also cannot fault the aftercare team who were brilliant at answering all my questions about how to do this or that. Some of those questions now seem silly but it didn't matter who I asked they made me feel like it was the most important thing happening at that time.

I would 100% recommend the Barratt Centre for anyone to birth. We would also like to thank every single midwife who was involved in our care, you were all fabulous. Especially our dedicated midwife for birth (Kelly); I can't thank you enough for helping me bring this beautiful baby into the world.

Gave birth here last week 31.1.18 to my beautiful baby girl. I literally had the best birth, best experience and best time, I can not thank every one that was involved you are all amazing. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't of been able to do it. you all have a special place in my heart now...... Thank you so so so much

During my pregnancy I have always wanted to give birth at the birthing centre, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left it was amazing! The staff were amazing, keeping me calm and relaxed the whole time even when I started to get anxious and panicky! We had a few midwifes over the period I was in labour (sorry I can’t remember all the names) but in the end we had Emily who delivered our baby and she was amazing! I can’t fault her care and we really want to say a massive thank you to Emily and the staff at the Barrett Birthing Centre � Baby Freddie was born on the 19/5 at 3:42!

Darcy Anne Collier was born here on 07th May and I could not have asked for a better birth. Kelly Emmerson was my midwife and was amazing throughout. We cannot thank her and all the staff enough! We welcomed our first baby into the world in a very relaxed environment, I was lucky enough to have a birth pool labour and then stayed the night in my own room with en suite. 10/10 service!! THANK YOU ALL xx
