About Birds Bakery
Birds has been around since 1919. As a family-run business we know how important our tradition has become.
Birds Bakery Description
Birds the Confectioners was founded by three brothers; Frank, Thomas and Reginald Bird in 1919. The company was later passed on to their sons, the last of the founder members passing away in 1951.
Paul Bird, the second generation pioneer, expanded the company considerably while maintaining the quality of our products.
Currently the company is run by the third generation, brothers Patrick and Nicholas Bird. Having just opened our 56th store in Borrowash, we've certainly grown over the years.
Our product range has naturally flourished as well. Not only can you still get all the Birds bread, cream cakes and confectionery you've always loved, but we now also offer a range of take-away lunch foods including hot sausage cobs and many freshly baked products, coffees and sandwiches.

Really lovely staff at Coalville. The salted caramel donuts are gorgeous however I miss your meringue cakes, my granny wizzbang used to treat me to one every Saturday. They are by far the best I've ever tried

My parents lived in Loughborough and even after I moved away 30+ years ago they always brought jam tarts from Bird’s the Bakers when they visited. Today is my son’s birthday and what better way to celebrate than to drive to Loughborough to collect a special order! Still his favourite. Happy memories and as delicious as ever. Thank you!
My Grandson had some mini donuts today. They went down a treat, he loved them
Love the cakes.. the pastries and the bread! Always lovely quality, can’t go in for just 1 thing!
I was very disappointed today when I found out that you have stopped doing Thick Sausage.
You sausage is the best and we always buy in bulk and prefer the Thick as it doesn't dry up when cooking in the oven.
Please consider bringing it back as I know I am not alone in wanting Thick.
Great bread, lovely staff at Littleover. Try the Multiseed loaves (thick sliced). Amazing taste.
I went into my local Bulwell shop in Nottingham to buy the hovis bread only to be told after all these years birds have stopped making it. I asked if sales were down but on the contrary the assistant said sales were good and it was one of their popular breads. So why birds tell us.?
what's funny is birds say tradition is very important to them, well it seems its not that important at all.
Hi... Love the new sinfin shop, much needed up there. But can I suggest one thing before all hell lets loose, there is no queuing system, no one knows where to stand or queue and people are jumping in front of others. I've seen people blatantly go to the front as there's no ropes or barriers showing where the end of the queue is. It's a very busy shop so the staff can't see who's next so nothing much they can do other than ask who's next... Lovely staff in there, great to see you in sinfin but please get the queuing sorted out for the sake of everyone. Thanks
£2.90 for a sausage cob...i was expecting something special. Very disappointed. The quality was no better than Greggs and far too expensive. Lesson learned!
Went to our local store to get a couple of cream buns (just the classic bun, sliced, with cream and jam, dusted with icing sugar) only to be told that you don't make them any more. Stupid move, being back the bun. #bringbackthebun
We Purchased a bag of rolls from sinfin before Xmas. Took them home and made a pack up for a day out the next day. The rolls were extremely salty, not edible and ruined the pack up. Took the left over rolls store and they took our details to contact us. We have not heard anything else back from this issue, not acceptable. Apart from this they are usually ok
Wasn't impressed that you do a coffee and sausage roll deal but no alternative for vegetarians!
Normally love birds cobs and cakes, but it seems too many times recently I've arrived at the Mickleover and Allestree branches at anywhere between 12-12:45 and there is nothing left! I'd like to add for most people who work this is peak lunch hour-why on earth do you not do a proper stock take and order accordingly?? And when you ask for a cob to be made...wow, well you may as well have asked for the moon. Not all of your customers are pensioners knocking on the door at 10:30.
A regular customer at Birds Beeston, however, I collected a Birthday cake which had been previously ordered for my Father in Law's 90th last Saturday and was not impressed. This cake looked like it had been made for a baby/young boy. Too late to do anything about it, took it to the venue for the evening and upon cutting it, the sponge cake was dry. Very disappointed not what we expect from Birds.
12.15 on a Friday lunchtime and the shop at Oakwood has no sausage rolls or meat pasties .. so fed up with the lack of stock at this shop !
Would give the Intu Derby store a zero if I could!! Beef paste brought this morning and has a sell by date on of the 18th which was Wednesday! There was also a member of staff dropping ham onto a chopping board meant for salad. Hygiene out of the window and clearly don't care about giving people food poisoning! What sort of people run these places. Seriously.
We have a regular order of pork pies and inside the meat of one of them found a piece of silicone purchased at the Allenton store. Staff there were lovely and said they would inform the bakery and send them the found silicone. It’s clearly from the processing plant, but management make out it’s from a sauce bottle and nothing to do with them!! No apology and offer of a £3 refund. Customer service is rubbish!
Some of the staff at Wollaton branch need to be more polite to their customers as they make you feel uncomfortable for asking for a large order when they have to slice 6 tin loaves, I am so glad this is not my local branch as I now get my orders from Radcliffe on Trent where the staff are always happy and pleased to serve you, one off visit to Wollaton this morning but will not be going in that shop again !
So disappointed !!! Went into the Derby branch for some lunch today ( 3 of us ) the cutlery was dirty, we couldn't find any napkins , then walking round like idiots looking for sauce !!! All this should be on the tables ?? ( you charge enough for the food ) the hot chocolate was gross & the sausages where full of fat !! A real shame as the takeout cakes / cobs etc are beautiful- I won't be dining here again !
