Three of our girls are doing a skydive to raise money for Derbyshire Air Ambulance and in honour of their late friend. It’s an important organisation that desperately needs support as they don’t receive any funding from the government. Please sponsor our girls, click on the link below that will take you to the donation page, you never know when you might need the Air Ambulance!

It’s the last bank holiday of the summer this weekend! It’s not given as good weather as the last few but if you do venture out for a walk, what better way to finish off than with a good hearty meal!

Ride 25 stopped off on their way through for a bite to eat. Large group bookings always welcome and the barn can be hired out for functions.

Went last night for a meal, was well worth the hour's drive as food was excellent. Fish and chips were lovely and a very generous portion size and my hubby said he enjoyed his Steak and Kidney pie better than his Christmas dinner! Plus had a lovely cosy table in front of the real fire.

User

I stayed at the Bulls Head on Friday 26th, just called in on the off chance I would get a room. the evening meal was great the room was very clean, and the breakfast was good although the times were a bit late for me start time at 08:30 until 09:30, I get up early so I would of preferred it at 07:00.

Tried the Sunday lunch on 08/04/18 at around 3pm. Only waited 5 minutes for a table. I had the turkey and my friend had the lamb. Both enjoyed it. I quite liked the cauliflower and broccoli cheese as a nice touch. Food arrived quickly and portion size was good. Would definitely come here again. NB just before we left someone at the next table was told they only had one lamb dinner left so don’t leave to too late in the day!

User

On Easter Sunday we walked in after a long walk and did not have to wait long for a table. The restaurant was busy but the food came quickly. The atmosphere was good and the Sunday roast was fabulous. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone I know.

User

I had the burger, enjoyed the meal, but I don't want my meal served on a piece of wood! I asked for a plate and they changed it

User

Having read some of the reviews I can't believe we're all reviewing the same pub! It was a very busy lunchtime - we got one of the last tables. The food arrived faster than we expected, was piping hot and delicious, and the price was fair. Other meals being served looked just as good. Decent craft ales too. The next time we visit Castleton we'll eat there again.

User

Went for Sunday lunch, pub was very busy, didn’t wait long for a table, ordered Sunday lunch for all the family, was a bit surprised when it arrived, 2 new potatoes, carrots and red cabbage, not a great choice of veg, no greens! Also it was like warm, had to ask for more gravy to warm it up a bit, plenty of meat on plate and my daughter loved the Yorkshire pudding. Don’t think I would return for the Sunday lunch but having eaten there on Xmas eve for the last few years off the normal menu which is normally spot on it hasn’t completely put me off.

User

Usually we come here for dinner and the food is lovely however on this 1 occasion we was refused food as we was sat outside in their barn with our dog because there was a little bit of rain and for safety reasons they couldnt bring the food out which i wouldnt mind but the couple sat outside with us could order food and outside became dry, once confronted with this the lady looked outside and basically said its still wet and no one is sat in there, when we returned outside there was the same couple outside and their dinner came out, the lady at the bar was rude and if you have a dog and its raining i dont recommend coming here for dinner

User

Disappointed that the menu online was not fully available on the night.. looking forward to the burger and chips all day but non on the menu.. had the fish and chips instead, fish was lovely but chips were frozen chips which was disappointing. Husband enjoyed bean burger and we had a cheesecake and a crumble and custard for pudding which were nice.. quite an average meal.. very friendly staff though and lovely atmosphere 😁

User

Went in for food which came to the table fairly quickly. But was cold, when i spoke to the waitress about the food not being cooked properly she walked off and came back and told me the chef said it is made from chickpeas. I know what it was made from, it was supposed to be hot. Nothing was done about it, no offer of rectifying it or a refund. The staff member just walked off. So i came in hungry got robbed of £12 odd quid and left hungry. A great experience thank you.

User

My daughter and I had the halloumi in pitta. Initially it looked really nice but the halloumi was completely burnt on one side ( but cunningly put into the pitta with the non burnt side showing).

I complained to the guy behind the bar who nipped off to the kitchen and returned to tell me it it was not burnt but chargrilled ( please see attached photo). So why was every piece of halloumi put into the pitta with the burnt side not showing?

To be fair I was offered a replacement when I laughed out loud, but explained that didn't want to leave my dogs in the car any longer.

A couple of quid of the bill would have been a nice gesture rather than being made to feel that I was being fussy !
