Feeling the seasons shifting, it's scarph weather!
Coming up on our first year inhabiting what was a bare concrete box... This is the final joint that - along with finishing our accidentally musical staircase (more of which later) - means our workshop space is safe and ready to accept all comers.

With gouge, chisel and mallet in hand you’ll learn the art of traditional relief wood carving, and at the end of the day take away your own tactile piece of artwork.
We’ll teach you how to carve with the grain, using the way the wood grows to make the work easier. The day’s course will cover tool sharpening, layout of designs, wood selection and carving technique.
No matter whether you have a design in mind or feel like you can’t draw for toffee, everyone will make something ...to be proud of.
Course cost – £75, including all tools, materials, tea, coffee and something sweet.

Whether you choose to make a simple mallet, spreader, spatula, or something else, it’s up to you!
... It’s a chance to give things a try – split fresh wood with a froe, ride a shave horse to shape and refine, or have a go at working with axe and whittling with knife.
Something for everyone, and suitable for absolute beginners…
Course cost – £40, including all tools, materials, tea, coffee and something sweet.

The beautiful fruits of our first, experimental home school session. Just exploring the tools, the wood, imagination & possibilities. such a joy sharing time with young makers, growing into a sense of skill, pushing through difficulties discovering new ways of shaping the world, creating something meaningful! I love being here, learning as much as teaching!

Family Making, Sunday 7th October 10am - 12.30 or 2pm-4.30pm. http://wemakeourway.co.uk/learn/family-ma king/
Our Family sessions are for anyone aged 6 and over - we'll lay out an array of traditional hand tools – saws, drills, rasps, chisels, hammers, nails, and an unruly assortment of materials - wood, twine, fabric, reclaimed and recycled treasure and then you and your young folk can choose to make whatever you can dream up!
... Puppets, tools, toys, instruments, and more magical inventions than we can mention - it always amazes us at what gets made during these fun family sessions where parent (or grandparent) and child work together to make and create.

The postie thrust this beautiful utensil through the letter box this morning. What a lovely surprise! Thank you @wild.roe for this already-cherished spoon: claimed by Sol (3 years old) before anyone else could touch it "with this point on the end it's even gooderer than our ones"!

Thanks Corrina & Hannah, here's exactly what we were whittling on about.

Some moments from last weekends spoon carving workshop. Though there didn't seem to be much time to take photographs In between mulling over the finer complexities of spoon ergonomics, the importance of hand work for well being & in education, everyday wrist and arm exercises, video game design as cottage industry craft, and the rest... The beauty of working with wood in this way is that you can carry on a civilized conversation at the same time.
