On the 23rd November, our Springs Group Trainer Louise Collinge had a lovely surprise when her sister got engaged whilst on a stay at Champneys Springs with her parents. Her now fiance Ricky, got down on one knee in the restaurant and popped the question! Congratulations to the happy couple!

We have been staying at Springs for 20 years now and just love it.

Food is delicious, staff are very friendly and professional (especially Annette (duty manager) and Toni (Elemis) Dulcie (Therapist) and the treatments are just amazing.

We were in a superior room which are very large and comfortable a little TLC needed now but I believe there is an ongoing refurb so that’s to be expected.

Service charge and charitable donation was automatically added to the bill instead of being consulted prior to payment but it is well deserved so I didn’t mind.

Overall it was an amazing stay as always.

User

We had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday at Champneys. A thoroughly much needed break from reality. A day of rest & relaxation, a catch up with friends and lots of laughter. The staff were simply amazing and we were made to feel so welcome. Champneys Springs you never let us down, we all love our “down time” with you and we come away rejuvenated every time. Thank you to the whole team.

User

This was a surprise treat for me so had no expectations whatsoever! But it was everything I had hoped for! Calm atmosphere, lots of cozy places to sit and read and drink tea, great swimming pool, fun classes, relaxing treatments* and a tasty and healthy selection of food options*. Staff were friendly and attentive and I thought the place looked great.

Couple of points that niggled at me:-

*personal full body treatment should be more personalised. I didn’t get asked what I wanted focussed on, which I thought I would.

*can’t advertise that a dish comes with “kimchi” and serve stir fried cabbage with some chilli oil (this isn’t kimchi)

User

As usual a lovely 2 day spa break. Made extra special by the friendly staff and warm greetings. Quite busy, but it's half term. Food great although choice is reducing, especially at breakfast and lunch. F&B staff attentive and clearly led well and happy in their job. Front office are simply amazing, how they continue to make the guest experience so good given they are short staff....must be down to Annette Franklin the duty manager...she deserves a shout out as exceptional. Slightly surprised by an automatic inclusion on the bill of a service charge and charity donation as this has always been discussed prior to final bill completion?! However, it won't stop me returning.

User

Still love champneys! Overall we had a lovely and relaxing weekend. The staff were fab and my treatments great! The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is tranquil, allowing you to almost melt into the weekend. The only reason I didn’t give ut 5 Star is a think the bathrooms in the room need updating. The shower is powerful but the bass filled up and overall the rooms were clean but need a refurb. We have just had amazing weather down there and loved sitting out on the loungers and soaking up the sun. Despite the need for room refurbishment this place still is special and so relaxing. Thank you champneys😎👍🏼😃

User

Rooms were a bit dated and could do with refurb. The food was wonderful, staff were friendly and the pools was decent.

The gym and pool were a good size and well maintained.

The sauna and steam rooms were tiny and separated for males and females, everything else cost extra.

We had a good time and got a cheaper rate via Secret Escapes which made it good value.

User

I last went to champneys in 2016 and wasn't impressed with my head in the clouds treatment. However I've just spent an overnight visit and Champneys have redeemed themselves. I had two treatments, a back massage by Christina which was wonderful and a facial by a young lady whose name I have forgotten but it was equally great. I do think paying extra for some food options is greedy on their part, the stay itself costs enough. I would definitely visit again.

User

Very disappointed used to be a favourite of mine. NO air con in any rooms. The treatments where a struggle to get through. In need of a brush up. Have emailed twice no one has had the decency to respond!

User

The place is tired and unnecessarily costly. Took me 2 days to make the reservation as no phones were being answered, automated response each time. Suggested I make reservation on line, great website not taking reservations for whatever reason, ring to make booking. Not impressed and not what I would expect from Champanys. Eventually made reservation and on departure was charged an additional £5.00 without being consulted prior to paying. I am happy to donate to various organisations and do but at my choice not to have it taken for granted that I would want to. Guess where I'm going in future.......Hello, RAGDALE HALL!

User

So close to being a luxury experience but 3 things hold it back:

1- the hotel itself is tired and dated, needs some money spending on a renovation.

2- it definitely could have been cleaner! We sat in reception to wait for our tour and there were giant cobwebs with spiders in the corners near the furniture, as if the cleaners hadn’t done a thorough job.

3- half the staff were incredible, but were let down by the other half of the staff who were miserable and looked like they would rather be anywhere but there.

Also worth mentioning that the spa facilities aren’t ideal for a couple, you can only really go in the pool together, or there is a tiny sauna which was full most of the time! And there were only 4 bikes for the whole resort!

User

Most of the staff were great - welcoming and helpful! The resort and spa facilities really need a renovation, as this brought down the experience overall. However, the sports facilities and classes were brilliant - good range and accomodating. The beautiful surrounding nature, allows you to escape from the outside world. One major downfall was the options presented at breakfast; a real let down!

User

I messaged about treatments a few days before snd I didn’t get any reply from the treatment department which was a bit disappointing. I also messaged a different email about booking for the thalasso treatment as it said you couldn’t book online, also didn’t get a reply.

I went to springs today and had a good time. I managed to book a facial which was nice not amazing for the money, but didn’t get to go in the Thalasso pool.

I went to springs 3 years ago and I couldn’t fault it this time I felt it was a bit flat and not so welcoming. The food was excellent though

User

Food was lovely and the room we didn’t arrive till 6pm and couldn’t book any treatment as was closed we only had a night stay due to having kids we had to check out by 10pm place could do with being upgraded a little

User

First time spa visit and it was a bit of a chaotic start. When booking there was no confirmation email of the itinerary so we missed breakfast as we didn’t realise there was a set time. When we arrived we were given the itinerary but no explanation on times so we missed thalassotherapy as we didn’t arrive till 10.45 and the receptionist didn’t mention that the treatment was starting at 11.00 so we weren’t ready. Didn’t give us much time to get ready. It Should of been mentioned that the treatment was starting soon. We did manage to get booked in for a later time. Although the alternative option was a £10 credit towards another treatment ( which we don’t believe is the original value of the thalassotherapy treatment). It wouldn’t get you much unless you were willing to pay extra for another treatment on top of the £129 for the whole day (including the 2 treatments). The whirlpool broke halfway through the day, that didn’t effect us too much as we had already spent time in there and we were about to go wait for our massage. Apart from he rocky start it was quite relaxing. Nothing really special.Need more loungers for the number of people there. The staff are nice and approachable if you have any issues or questions.

User

First time here and I’m not wowed. If you have the pool treatment booked, they don’t warn you in advance that you can’t wear contact lenses in there so if you haven’t brought a spare pair with you, you can’t go in. Only then offered £10 towards another expensive treatment. It’s looking very worn in general and the pool is more like a leisure centre area than a relaxing spa! Feeling a tad disappointed!

User

Nice spa weekend, not as luxurious as I thought it would be to be honest. Best thing about the place is the staff, they are nice, professional and quick to try to assist. WiFi and phone reception terrible, so impossible to keep up with anything online, kindle downloads, FaceTiming the kids, any kind of phone conversations, they suggest you have a digital detox but I don’t think it’s their place to enforce it.

Food is ok, lots of things cost extra, wine list is extortionate and really quite mediocre should you fancy a glass at dinner. Cheapest bottle is £30. Lunch costs 19.50 and is really mediocre, we had it at 2pm and things were dry and congealed.

The rooms are a bit tired, bathtub rusty and not that clean, mattress a bit saggy, tv tiny.. the spa ran out of towels, had to queue for showers as there are only 5 stalls, only 6 people can fit in the sauna or steam room at any one time and then you’re trying hard not to touch thighs with the person next to you.. considering about forty people flooded in for day spa access alone it all seems a bit poor. I would recommend you go elsewhere. It’s not worth the £170 per person they are asking for an overnight stay. My local gym has far superior facilities.

User

Had a fab time ! Staff are lovely , treatments are fab , the lack of air conditioning in the studios was rediculious . And why not charge a bit more to stay and then nearly everything on the menu wouldn’t have an extra charge against it ? Rooms are quite dated .

User

Came here for my 4th wedding anniversary with my husband. Booked through Secret Escapes and can say I have paid less elsewhere and had better spa facilities.

For anyone who is thinking of booking, here are my disappointments!

1 - pool is like a leisure centre, nothing wow or fantastic

2 - whirlpool is forever cramped and never has space as everyone just hogs the place

3 - sauna by poolside is big enough for 3 people only (sort it out Champneys as this is a disgrace, I get better at the local gym)

4 - steam rooms are separate and not by poolside (no good for couples! Again disappointing)

5 - a la Carte menu very limited, food is not great (you seriously need to look at your menu as tofu burgers can not be the only thing vegans or vegetarians eat)

6 - disappointed that could not use the thalassotherapy pool and had to pay EXTRA! To use it. (Thought it was supposed to be part of the spa?)

7 - room is very outdated, bathroom especially, no air con unit in room for hot evenings and no heating facilities in winter??? Just a thought.

8 - treatments are overly priced! Put me off booking any! £49 for the cheapest massage and that’s just for a head massage.

Overall I’m disappointed that EVERYTHING is overpriced for the type of experience advertised, as it wasn’t the wow factor as promised and so hyped about. £160 through secret escapes is far fetched as opposed to what you actually advertise on your website is equally unbelievable. You need to look at your services and then price accordingly, trust me Clumber Park are a smaller spa and cheaper but their facilities are much much better!

Sorry won’t be coming again!

User

Very disappointing that the aqua classes have been removed from the mornings. Result is less healthy activities for the visitors and the members. Is it cost cutting from on high or complaints from the few around the pool. please revisit short sighted decision for the benefit of the customers.

Apart from he rocky start it was quite relaxing. Nothing really special.Need more loungers for the number of people there. The staff are nice and approachable if you have any issues or questions.

Had a fab time ! Staff are lovely , treatments are fab , the lack of air conditioning in the studios was rediculious . And why not charge a bit more to stay and then nearly everything on the menu wouldn’t have an extra charge against it ? Rooms are quite dated .

Very disappointing that the aqua classes have been removed from the mornings. Result is less healthy activities for the visitors and the members. Is it cost cutting from on high or complaints from the few around the pool. please revisit short sighted decision for the benefit of the customers.
