Health anxiety is a common difficulty experienced by approximately 1 in 16 people. It often presents itself as a high level of anxiety around becoming seriously unwell and can be the cause of many trips to the GP by the person suffering from it, only to be told that there is nothing to be concerned about. The BBC have reported that the internet is not helping sufferers as it is so easy to go down the proverbial rabbit hole when looking up symptoms online, causing people to become even more concerned that their symptoms are something very serious. CBT is recommended by NICE as an evidence based treatment for health anxiety.
