User

Stayed 22nd April 18 in a superior long room. Room was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable and the glass of wine on arrival was really appreciated. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were well used by both me and hubby. Ate in the peace and plenty restaurant and the choices for gluten free were great. Food was delicious and the chef even made me a dessert I wanted the strawberry and mint cheesecake was to die for. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was good and plenty of choice, my only small complaint is that the only gluten free bread was a bread roll. I appreciate having gf bread buns as itā€™s better than nothing at all but bread is better at breakfast. We would definitely stay again as nothing was too much trouble šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

User

Staff really helpful when we couldnā€™t find the car park. You go through the m&s covered area to the gate where someone was waiting to open it. Was greeted at reception with a complementary glass of wine. Was then told WiFi code, breakfast times and food serving times in bar and restaurant. Wish we had brought our swimming kit as the pool looked lovely. Will be calling again. Thank you.

User

Right on the centre, clean, nice food and very helpful staff. Would stay again

User

Really enjoyable stay very helpful staff who helped me move all my bags upstairs.

Great staff in the bar who weā€™re very welcoming and friendly. Itā€™s been a pleasure to stay and if back in Carlisle Iā€™ll be staying again

Hi me and the wife had a three-day stay here at the crown and mitre.

Staff where great and the food to die for .the wife made good use of the heated pool etc ..will defo be going back .

User

Had a lovely 2 night stay. Food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it. The restaurant staff Alistair and Sean was very welcoming and pleasant. Both very professional. All other staff were pleasant. The room was clean and warm with a view of the city centre. It is a definite recommendation to all who are looking for a nice city stay.

User

Car parking is a nightmare at the moment due to q road closure ..10 minute round the one way system that your not familiar with isn't the greatest to be honest after a 2 hour drive to hotel ..

On the plus side ...great standards of cleanliness so much so I left a tip for the housekeeping because they thoroughly deserved it. Staff all very nice and friendly

Breakfast was stunning too.

Hotel is a wonderful building.. located in the middle of a bustling city centre which seems as inviting as you could ever need it to be xx I'm the first to slate things when they are bad ...so am very highly recommending this hotel to anyone who wants an honest review

Amazing place .. I always stay there when on a night out in Carlisle, from the moment you walk in to the time you leave it's great .. the service and the staff are very courteous and nothing is too much trouble .. the hotel itself if beautifully themed, the bars are great and bar staff also great, had a good laugh last night with the 2 that were on... I wouldn't go past this hotel, if it's good enough for my friend David Essex it's good enough for me .. spot on don't ever change.

User

My wife and I decided on a 3 day break. Lovely staff, breakfast first class. We booked a club room recently refurbished, bed very comfortable, but a low emitting alarm/noise in the room traced it to the switch/light socket at the RH side of bed. We are not the first to report this problem, otherwise it wouldā€™ve 5 stars. Finding the car park you need a packed lunch and a road map

User

Lovely hotel very clean and helpful staff on the whole.

Stayed here 2 night for daughters graduation. Photos were done in the hotel so ideal location. The only thing that spoiled the experience was the breakfast supervisor. He had a very sarcastic sense of humour. Which wasn't good at 6.30 in the morning. When i atempted to leave with a glass of orange juice. To take my daily tablets. He told me I couldn't take anything from the breakfast room. I asked if he was joking where he said no it was the hotels policy. Then day two breakfast I witnessed the same guy letting a guest take a full plate of breakfast out of the breakfast room and back to their room. Guess hotel policy is flexible if your face fits.

I travel all over the UK with my job and I've never come across such an arrogant loud man in all my time.

User

Enjoyed our one night stay. Comfortable and clean maybe ready for a face lift here and there. Free city centre car park a plus, not sure what they would do for a very large party as there are only about 15 spaces. Buffet food at the party we were attending was good so too was breakfast. Swimming pool is small, ok for a quick dip but not if you are looking to do any serious swimming. Disappointing bar! Had to wait nearly 15 mins to be served, beer served from the new barrel was cloudy and yeasty, probably still fermenting and definitely not ready to drink. This was changed for a different beer which was ok but not Real Ale which is what we really wanted. Later in the evening, this barrel went off which was disappointing. I suspect the hotel is busy on a regular basis so why did the bar manager not plan the beer barrels better? Carlisle is a great city to visit and The Crown and Mitre is slap bang in the middle of the city, great for sightseeing, close to the train station and numerous bars and restaurants.

User

What a lovely hotel packed with great staff. Room was very nice. However workmen building scaffolding at 6am on a Saturday morning was not. This wouldn't have been a problem if the windows, which let in a massive draft, were up to soundproofing. The worst part unfortunately was the food. My main came it was chicken, potatoes and gravey so salty I just couldn't eat it and there were no veggies at all. The "HOT" breakfast was stone cold and the pastries rock hard. Shame really but enough to put us off returning.

User

Please do not be fooled by the reviews posted here, most of which must have been posted by people getting the wrong hotel or by staff posing as clients.

The staff ARE mostly pleasant and helpful, but the hotel is very tired and the restaurant is very poorly run and our food was cold, when it turned up. The restaurant ā€œsupervisorā€ spent the whole night apologising to almost every table for different reasons. There is a distinct lack of staff training, so although they are nice people, they arenā€™t terribly professional.

In the morning, we asked for our car to be moved out of the car park but had a small wait while the manger dealt with a customer complaint.

Too many people complaining for it too be a coincidence!

User

On the whole a good hotel. A great weekend with friends.

The waiting staff were great but breakfasts need a little more organisation. 20 minutes wait for toast !!!!

The rooms were clean ish. I had to wipe 12months of dust off the smoke alarm in the bathroom and top of the door and the cleaning staff didnā€™t know how to move the bedside table

As there were crisp packets and bits of seeets in the floor under it. Bar prices are expensive Ā£3:00 for a pint of coke. Same price almost as a pint of cider. Have been before and will go again.
