The thing with strength is that there is no limit. Mental, physical, emotional... you can only get stronger. And stronger. And stronger. Darkside is that group of amazing women (and Bob!) who will push and support you to be the strongest you can be, in every single sense of the word. Also, it's a place where it's socially acceptable to wee yourself a little bit every so often. Because, let's face it, girl anatomy can be a tiny bit rubbish. If you haven't wee'd yourself yet then don't be smug. It'll come. Oh, yes. It'll come. Try the trampoline with a full bladder. Then we'll see who's laughing!

Darkside ladies range from the teeniest tiniest girlies (who can probably pick you up above their head), to those with with squishy mummy bodies and stretch marks all over (who can probably pick you up above their head), to those who have been told by society that they are fat and unfit and unhealthy (despite the fact they could probably lift you up above their heads on one finger and spin you round...) and every shape, size, and age in between. I'd love to say everyone is normal, but they're not. They're a bunch of weird, hilarious, refreshingly open, supportive and STRONG ladies! So come along for some cake, if you like. And maybe throw some weights around while you're at it!

User

Sat here thinking about how amazing Darkside is and how I really should give it a review. Some of the members will know what job I do. And Shantelle is amazing with letting me come to other sessions when work just gets in the way. And I know if I was ever just exhausted from my day or late off it would be no issue changing at late notice which makes this place exceptional. I work full time and I have just started a distance learning masters degree but this place is my break and I look forward to it every single week. I would come more if I could. Just for the sweets! I am a shy person. I shouldn't be with the job I do. And I mostly try and hide the fact I am shy however the idea of a small group class nearly killed me. I was so nervous coming into group for the first time but I love it. I'm very body conscious having lost three stone and I am almost addicted to standing on the scales but I'm slowly coming out of that. Knowing that I am happy with who I am. Darkside has helped me so much with my mind and body and its only been 5 weeks. I can't imagine how I will feel months down the line. Everyone needs a bit of Darkside. Get stronger and become someone you never knew your were or could be. It's all thanks to the wonderful ladies (and Bob) at Darkside and a massive Thank you to Shantelle for the inspiration behind Darkside. It's absolutely what Lincoln needs!

User

Joined the runners, it is amazing. I had never run before and the group is so supportive, Rachael and Hannah are brilliant at knowing just when to push you .

User

I've never been sporty in the slightest, but I somehow started going to the gym and found I enjoyed lifting heavy things off the floor/above my head etc. I saw an ad for Darkside on Facebook and made some hesitant enquiries. Would I have time? Would it be worth my money? Could I finally get rid of my apathetic demons that told me that I hated this sort of thing - focus, practice, the possibility of failure, hoping for success? Could *I* - a human twiglet swathed in hideous leggings- actually do it at all? The answer to all is yes - and that is because Shantelle provides a supportive, positive space for women to work on their lifting abilities regardless of factors like age, size and experience. No question is too silly and no achievement is too small for Shantelle - she provides plenty of help and encouragement and that is infectious within the group. I might be mad, but I'm even competing soon - so perhaps I may finally shut the door on those demons and its all thanks to Darkside :)

User

I've been to lots of gyms and done all the usual weight/resistance training. I've never done power lifting before and I'm

absolutely loving it. The support and encouragement and training is fantastic. The atmosphere is so much different being women only, and the women that go are all sizes and ages and it doesn't matter what you're doing, you can always hear somebody laughing (in a good way) and encouraging. The HIIT classes are a killer, but amazing once the hour is up :-) I would highly recommend it to any woman if you want to feel empowered in body and mind.

User

I've been power lifting at Darkside for 18 months. It's a fabulous, supportive ladies gym, where you can gain self confidence, learn to be strong, be super proud of your achievements and meet lovely people.... oh and eat cake and drink coffee.

User

I started with a 6 week course because I wanted to learn how to lift without feeling intimidated by the weights area at the gym; I've now been training over 6 months as I enjoy the training sessions so much.

The small groups ensure that you always feel you are getting the very best in coaching and that there is always enough time for any guidance needed or any questions that you have. The group sizes are perfect for getting to know new people and making friends too.

I used to weigh myself quite obsessively, but a couple of months into training I caught a glimpse in the mirror and realised I looked strong; STRONG, not too fat or wobbly, not too skinny I just saw strong. That was the day I threw the scales out and have felt better about myself ever since; thank you Darkside!

User

I started training at Darkside a year and a half ago now, I started on the beginners course and never looked back. Power lifting is a fantastic sport and I love it, but training at Darkside makes it even better. Darkside isn’t just a gym or somewhere to train, it’s a community and it’s a great place to be a part of

User

I started lifting at Darkside a year ago now and can safely say it's one of the best decisions I've made. I was apprehensive and not sure what to expect, but I immediately loved it and found myself surrounded by wonderful people and enjoying something new. I would recommend to anyone

I started in November 2017 and I just love it. Now being 60 the community of trainers and other women are so supportive and encouraging. I miss it when I am on holiday !

User

I have been lifting at Darkside for almost a year now, and I love it. It’s the first exercise that I have stuck too! The classes are great, the ladies friendly and the coaches are supportive, you aren’t judged or compared to anyone else. It has not only built my strength but also built my confidence.

User

I have been coming for 3 weeks now to belle' s class. I absolutely love it. She is fantastic at explaining stuff and gives u the confidence and encouragement to do anything. I walked in and felt so welcome by everyone, the sweets r a major bonus also. thanku . Highly recommend. X

User

I can't recommend Darkside enough ! Shantelle and Bob are fantastic coaches and you will see changes very quickly and not just in your body shape ! it's not all about lifting heavy weights, there is cake, coffee, different classes and seminars and a community of strong women who all support and build each other

I feel proud to belong to Darkside !

User

Fancied doing something different so thought I would give Darkside a try.

It was a little more than I wanted to pay and I spent the days in between my initial 4 sessions convincing myself that I would stop once the course had finished.

Well that was September 2017, its now the end of March 2018 and I'm still there! It's worth every penny.

You will not join a friendlier gym, this place is ideal for the total beginner who dreads going to a gym to an experienced fitness fan.

Highly recommend!

User

Everything about Darkside is awesome & I have to say I am loving doing something new that I never thought I would have ever tried ever before! I was a complete beginner & was completely put at ease by the friendliness of shantelle & the other girls at the gym. I have to say the gym staff I met are also very welcoming too. So not as nerve wrecking as I thought it would be. I am now really excited to see how far I can go with even the smallest of achievements I gain each week it makes me feel proud to achieve something for myself & I would never have done this without the support & expertise of shantelle at Darkside. So thank you! Also I've experienced 'cupping' within a 1hr massage by shantelle also which really helped my sciatica and my muscles to recover post training, really good value for money and I can't wait to have my next session!

User

Amazing place! I love my sessions at Darkside with Beth, she is a brilliant coach and so supportive. I am so much stronger and fitter than when I started almost a year ago. im also more confident and it's all thanks to the amazing women at Darkside who support and encourage each other to be the best they can be! Can't recommend this place enough!

User

After my first 1 to 1 session with Shantelle I was hooked! I'd always been intrigued about lifting and knowing what I was capable of in terms of strength. I can't rate Darkside enough! The focus on technique and the individual tailoring and focussing is incredible. Not only is this a great way to gain fitness and strength but my confidence has taken a massive boost- I'm doing things that I never even knew I was capable of. I can't wait to see what my future with Darkside holds, Shantelle and all the girls are fantastic!

User

A place where I can go to be strong and powerful, and be celebrated for it! Beth always encourages, quietly convincing me that I can do whatever she asks me to. Anna brings out the beast during boxing, and Shantelle could not be more accommodating, always striving to fit me in, working around my family, work, illness, whatever.

Places with people generally make me feel awkward, at Darkside I can relax and enjoy becoming a stronger me.
