User

Had an excellent nights stay ,lovely clean room with a very comfortable bed...made use of the full English breakfast...would recommend

User

Had a very nice stay here while on training at the nearby Academy, the room was nice and well equipped and was clean and tidy when i returned each afternoon. The staff were very polite and helpful most notably restaurant server Chloe. The evening food was very good and the staff were accommodating. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend the hotel.

User

stayed here twice in a week, really nice hotel. gym and pool are great. Staff very friendly. Rooms very nice. Could do with a bigger selection of food in the bar or have the restaurant open later.

User

Nice rooms but the bathrooms are a bit dated. Breakfast was good. Tried the spa but also a bit dated, showers were freezing and changing areas small

User

14/0618 spent the night due to my wife's 20th year special recognition with WICKES. A wonderful evening, excellent food, friendly staff, amazing entertainment The singing waiters wow!! Location & grounds are wonderful. The rooms are spacious, comfy bed & all the amenities you need. All in all a great experience

User

Stayed overnight for a charity function, accommodation was good, with iron and hair dryer included, Wifi was easy to get and free to use. Bar and restaurant service left a lot to be desired, waiting time was a joke and some people waited over an hour for bar snacks, in the afternoon. The evening meal was served piping hot, with a good sized portion. I don't think they can cope with very large functions, they seemed to go to from bad to worse, and some staff got ruder as the night went into the early morning (after the event finished) when ordering more drinks etc.

User

Stayed for golf break. Golf excellent though signage on tee boxes very poor and the 10th hole needs a bell in the large dip!!

Room needed updating but clean and bed very comfy.

Very very large religious group there so we ate our evening meal in a separate room as no space in main restaurant but we had our own waitress so no issue there. Breakfast was chaos as the large group were all there at the same time!!! Again no tables, HUGE queues for the buffet. We were again shown to the annex room and Eddie from reception did everything possible to get us food to our table so we didn’t miss our tee time. Great service, thank you.

User

Long walk to room from reception a bit like a maze! Kept waiting for 10 minutes upon arrival to check in at reception. Ordered room service and one hour later had to cancel as we were going out. Bed comfortable. Average stay and expensive for level of service. Sorry!

User

Food - very good and excellent breakfast

Room - clean, tidy and well appointed

Pool - ok but it’s small and a bit of a walk from the main hotel building

Bar - good and surprisingly value for money for s hotel

Staff - now here’s the rub; the bar and restaurant staff were great but the reception staff were not particularly friendly or engaging.

So having started out with five stars, one star deducted for the pool and one for the reception staff

User

Dinner was nice but for some reason table was cleared and prepared for another couple whilst we went to get dessert. I had to wait and see if I could eat the puddings due to nut and other allergies. Surely you wait until we actually leave the restaurant!?!

After dinner we had a couple of drinks and went back to room about midnight the whole of the corridor absolutely stank of weed and we complained. As I suffer with asthma and the smell was so strong it was affecting it. Went and complained and he said he wasn't going to do anything because he wasnt going to evacuate everyone from their rooms. Spent most of the night tossing and turning as couldn't sleep due to asthma. Surely you should have policies against drugs in the hotel

De vere Staverton

Stayed for two nights 30/6/18 and 1/7/18

For a wedding.

Reception staff - Very good. Asked for a fan for the room. Received it in the room within 10 minutes. Very helpful when making a complaint about the food breakfast 2/7/18 - Sausages that were Pink AND Mushy on the inside. ( Very brown outside.)

Restaurant staff. Mostly good. - Saturday night good and Sunday morning good.

MONDAY 2/7/18. Restaurant staff.

Mostly bad. Informed the waiter about the pink and mushy sausages. Watched them get taken away as others in the restaurant picked them up and continued to see them being left by others.

Floor manager for restaurant staff, informed me that they were cooked as were brown and that the chefs had probed them. Its only the meat content that makes them pink and mushy.

They were not pink and mushy on the sunday morning.

My partner has been a chef for 20 years and has never sent a pink and mushy sausage out to customers.

Told by floor manager they were Cumberland sausages. The chefs agreed that the sausages were cooked and probes said they were.

Informed Reception about the sausages and they said they wouldnt eat them either. And would go and speak to the floor manager and ask chefs to remove and cook more sausages. We informed we had, and what the response was.

Upon return home heard nothing from my complaint on the day. Emailed the hotel concerning the problem and received a response from the deputy manager saying that they had spoken with the chefs and that the sausages were fine. The way they are cooked means that they can be juicier than when you cook at home. It was also be strange that the sausages would be like i had shown the floor manager.

They have had a 5star rating and not had any complaints about the food. Or any cases of food poisoning reported.

I didn't state I had got food poisoning in my complaint as I was unwilling to risk eating the sausages.

If i would like to stay again they would provide an upgraded room and a free meal. I had already paid over £180 for my two nights stay as it is. Not inclined to rush back to pay for another stay and my free meal.

I work with chefs at a hotel and each one of those looked disgusted when I told them about pink and mushy sasuages and asked if I had complained.

So overall. Rooms are good. Some staff are good and helpful. And some staff were not very good in my opinion. Restaurant was hit and miss. Some days food was ok. Next the food was poor. (pink mushy sausages)

Unlikely to return here due to the reasons given from the food and when making complaints to some of the staff.(restaurant) and the recipient of email concerning the matter.

We were staying for the same wedding as Katy. I had expected high standards of the de vere brand - not achieved on this occasion. Seemed understaffed with poor service in restaurant, frustratingly slow response when trying to order room service. Checking out was unprofessional - no summary of charges before paying or vat receipt offered. Sitting waiting for car, the table in reception had bits of food left on it. Several members of our party said breakfast tables were not being cleared so they had to do that themselves before eating. Staff unapologetic and rude. Another member of our party asked for a child’s bed put in room - got that delivered but then had to go and request bedding for it. All in all came across as understaffed, and poorly managed. As it happened, the wedding (elsewhere) was superb which was the main focus and made up for a second rate experience at this hotel

User

Stayed here as part of a business trip, cleaner came to clean room every day but did nothing but make the bed, no clean towels or fresh toilet paper. Bathroom not very clean as I had to wash the bath my self before using it! Breakfast I couldn’t fault but lunch and dinner was awful food is a poor attempt at 5 star food which it was far from. The cheese cake I had ordered was mouldy! Complained on the first night to reception due to noise said they would go and speak to the guests but didn’t as I checked next morning! By choice I would not return, unfortunately I have to attend due to business but considering the prestige brands they cater for they are not a good representation! Very disappointed

User

Stayed for my sister's wedding (at a different venue and was superb)and having stayed at other de vere hotels we were looking forward to staying at the hotel. We booked a family room which was a normal room with 2 sofa beds in. When they were put out there was no room to move around. The worst part was having to wait for bedding for the extra bed (despite it being known about at the time of booking). I had to request twice before it arrived. Breakfast wasn't great - I didnt get offered any tea or coffee and tables weren't being cleared away making it difficult for people arriving to find a clean table. Wouldn't rush back - disappointing and not in line with other de vere hotels.

User

Possibly only worthy of 1 but giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Poorly run and staff don’t appear to know what’s going on.

Having stayed one night before a wedding with the bride to be and needing to change rooms for the following night (which they knew as rooms were all booked together) we weren’t able to check into our new room until 1pm at the earliest-not ideal when you are bridesmaid at a wedding at 1.30. Ended up booking in on our return from the wedding.

Our “family” room was a room with 2 extra fold out beds added, which would have been fine if we could actually move in between the fixed double bed and the 2 fold out beds.

Having booked through the wedding venue discounted rates it was interesting to find out that other guests who did the same were all charged different prices!!

Not enough staff in the restaurant to clear tables-didn’t even get asked if we’d like drinks for the evening meal and then had to stack plates on the table so that we could eat our next course. But the food was very good (why it’s got 2 stars and not 1)

Don’t expect prompt service if you want room service!! It takes quite some time to even get anyone to answer the phone let alone bring your order!

The “spa” is a walk across the car park to a luke warm jacuzzi and a cold pool. Steam room was ok though.

Won’t be returning unless I really have to.

User

We stayed here last night 13/3/18). At 7.10 this morning the painters and decorators working in the room above us started their incessant sanding. After calling reception at 7.30 and asking what was going on we were told “we’ll look into it. At 7.40 they started scraping what I imagine was the bare concrete floor above our heads. All this was followed by dragging the hoover around the floor, obviously accompanied by the obligatory bashing of everything they possibly could make some noise when hit. And as if this could possibly get worse, the fire alarm then went off. After getting up, dressed and ready to head out of the door, the alarm stopped. Could De Vere possible give us a worse wake up experience!!!

Nobody got back to us with an explanation or stopped the racket. If it had started at 9am, we would have understood that work has to go on....BUT AT 7.10am!!!

When I mentioned this when checking out, the receptionist actually lifted his hand, shrugged his shoulder and said, “I’ll mention it to someone”. Not even an apology that could have gone some way to ease my thumping headache!

Appalling service, with a complete lack of respect for paying guests that ultimately ruins what should be a nice hotel.

We will be avoiding De Vere from now on!

And I’d advise anybody booking at De Vere staverton to either not bother, or check that you won’t be in a room below the builders!

I begrudge having to give you 1 star as you deserve none!

User

Poor experience over new year. Children allowed by staff to run up and down the hallways banging doors till 3am. Asked staff if that was ok to which they replied it is down to the parents and there is a sign up.

I have asked 3 times for a manager to call me reference my grievances but no call back. Seems like they take your money but do not care about your experience. Very poor for such a well established hotel chain

User

I stayed here on 31st Dec to 1st Dec with my family but from the get go it was a catalogue of errors, mishaps and bad service.

Firstly we booked 2 rooms one being a large family suite and one double room. On arrival we were told one of us wasn't provided for in the family room so a double room was provided. The staff refused to upgrade despite having confirmed booking proof . I was then lied to being told the room was in fact a 'family' room just looked small. The room barely fitted two single beds along with 2 small easy chairs and a dresser which was hastily pushed together to make a double. We were then brushed off by rude staff and offered a spare bed . I assured them that it wouldn't fit but was then told its only a Z BED and it was customary for staff to remove other furniture within the room to fit an extra bed. The BED in question was barely 12 inches off the floor which collapsed when my 10 year old sat on it. Speaking to management was fruitless as they couldn't or wouldn't help .

We'd also booked a meal to celebrate the new in which when we arrived no table was available and in place was a private party we were offered an area in the bar to eat PUB GRUB hardly a celebratory feast. The card machine didn't work either which meant you had to leave the dining/bar area to pay at the reception desk.

The lighting did not work in the room and alternatives not offered on complaint. And the room wasn't stocked sufficiently with towels etc.

This wouldn't have been so bad had I not convinced my son and daughter in law to visit De Vere as my last visit in Selsdon croydon was equally appalling but speaking with management was convinced the daventry site would fair better. Needless to say we won't be visiting again .
