We love the Dovecoat, we were there on Saturday for a family birthday meal, the starters were amazing, everyone said so.when our mains came out they were hot & very tasty the chips are . Took my partner and a friend for a birthday meal yesterday. We all had an amazing meal. As a vegetarian, a lot of meals in restaurants are pretty bland to say the least. Normally I wouldn't bother with a veggie salad as they are just plain boring (lettuce leaf, tomato and onion, and not much else). The veggie salad here (Haloumi, Quinoa and Butternut Squash) was outstanding.....and the staff suggested that there is a lot more to come for Veggies (and Vegans) in the near future. The staff were very pleasant, chatty and most welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to Veggies and non-Veggies alike. Go on, pay them a visit.

User

Just wanted to say a massive ‘Thank You’ to the Dovecoat Staff for making my Mum’s birthday so special on the 5th July:) Ella was a total superstar providing amazing service with a lovely smile. Hillary baked an amazing birthday cake, which we all enjoyed.

User

Great place to eat for vegans!

The chef went out her way telling myself and stuie all the dishes she could make Vegan!!! She came out herself a few times to make sure she catered for us for every course and the food/ portion sizes were terrific. Its so nice to see people go above and beyond and be genuinely excited to create dishes.

10/10 of us all enjoyed our food througholy!

All staff were pleasent and the place was decorated lovely.

Thank you

User

A lovely place to unwind after a busy day at work x took the oportunity opportunity of a light tea time treat 2 meals for £14 before 5pm.

Both plates of food were tasty and well presented. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine - plenty of room and very clean. We look forward to our return and enjoying the interior x congratulations on the make-over, it's beautiful!

5* recommendation from us both x thank you for a lovely meal.

User

Went for a birthday meal which was my first visit to the Dovecote, we all enjoyed a nice meal and i thought the surrondings were lovely.

Will go again soon... :)

User

Lovely atmosphere & food. I would like to have given 5* but we waited a really long time for our first drinks and to give our food order and also asked for another round of drinks when dinner arrived - which didn’t make it to the table before we’d finished eating (2x Lemonades)

We would return as both our lunches were nice.

User

Great place, very tasty food, friendly staff that couldn't do enough for us. Service may have been a little slow but this can be forgiven as there was 14 of us. Will definitely visit again. Very well done Dovecote.

Updated to say that offer of free meal has been received in respect of this - please see comment below. What a dinner of two halves. One lovely and one totally disappointing. Husband and I rarely go out for a meal together, this was a treat paid for by my mother. Husband ordered a starter and I asked if I could have a side as a starter as only 1 gluten free option and didn’t fancy it. Husbands arrived but they’d forgotten mine. Waitress said she’d sort it. Husband ate his and finally waitress arrived, wrong starter! Off that one went. Manager came to apologise, very friendly chap. Finally my starter arrived and it was husbands turn to sit and wait while I ate. On to main course. Husband had a lovely steak while I had what was meant to be fish pie but turned out to be a rather greasy fish slop. Couldn’t make out anything really it was just one big runny mess. Can’t believe it as I had enjoyed one of these before the refurb and it was chunks of fish with a lovely mash on top. However last nights just looked like the whole thing had been put through the blender. Very poor for almost £14. I tried scooping out some to eat, leaving the oil and some slop behind. What a comparrioson to my cleaned out bowl the time before. Did mention it to manager and he apologised and said it depended on which chef made it, some do it differently, he’d be having a word with whoever did this one. Manager didn’t charge us for my starter and waitresses really did try their best and were very apologetic but I have to say what a total disappointment my meal was. The atmosphere is lovely, front of house staff and manager too but this doesn’t make up for a chef that produces sloppy food. We would normally have enjoyed a desert and/or coffee or another drink but frankly we both just wanted to go. Won’t be rushing back that’s for sure. It may look very nice but for the money we could have done better elsewhere. Very disappointed.

User

Fantastic friendly service. Really pleased that there were vegan options, pity it did not taste good, sure they used a jar of cooking sauce for my curry.

User

Bar staff don't seem to know who should be next in line, not a friendly or happy looking bunch either.

Lovely looking pub but didn't have food may give it a go another time.

User

Just left here and wasn’t impressed. The tables need clearing and the bar staff are to busy taking selfies with a drunken customer at the bar who really shouldn’t of been served anymore drink. Staff walking round looking lost while there’s a massive pile of dirty glasses at the end of the bar and used napkins on the floor and customers waiting to be served. For how posh it looks I’d expect better service and a cleaner pub. They have some pretty poor reviews on here which doesn’t seem to bother them and they don’t reply to a single review. There a local business and you’d think they’d care about what the

community think to keep the local customers going into the pub.

User

It's a nice place but unfortunately the food is average at best. I had a burger which was dry with the worst coleslaw on the side and some limp looking chips. Incidentally they do do the best onion rings I have ever had.

User

I like going to the Dovecote but on this occasion I was disappointed.

The staff were excellent but it’s a real shame that I can’t say the same about the food served. My pizza was ok but you can’t go that wrong with Pizza. My partner had a goats cheese and spinach cannaloni which tasted ok but had been microwaved to death making it very gloopy. Due to the time this meal had been microwaved it rendered it to hot to eat for at least 10 mins.

I am disappointed that a chef would think it is acceptable to reheat pasta in a microwave. I understand that during busy periods food waiting could go a little cold however at 17.30 with a virtually empty restaurant this dish could have been cooked to order and the only conclusion for me is that microwaving of food is the norm and to be honest I can do that at home much cheaper.

On a plus note when I made the staff aware they did apologise and without me asking refunded that part of the meal so well done to the front of house staff and a could do better to the Chef.

User

Booked last night for a meal for two. Head waiter fantastic, waitress service good but the food was terrible! Ordered one meal from the specials, roast potatoes burnt to a crisp, lamb rump look like diced fatty off cuts, veg wasn’t as described just plain old boiled carrots and as for someone topping it all with rocket??? The other meal was a mixed grill, steak tough and unable to eat, chicken hadn’t even seen a grill. Sausage and gammon were nice. So the lamb went back and my wife didn’t eat, I only ate half. We only stayed for 50 mins, great Birthday night out! Dovecote you have a lovely setting, great front of house but the food is horrendous.

User

i visited this pub yesterday and was VERY disappointed, the place and decor was lovely but the food was disgusting.

We ordered 2 meals, one was supposed to be a sirloin steak which was stone cold and mostly gristle and the other was a 'porkys platter' which was retchworthy, it consisted of huge lump of soggy fat (literally) a very cold sausage curl and a dried up bit of black pudding.

The pork belly which was 95% FAT was cold soggy and totally disgusting, infact i have thrown better away, it was not fit for human consumption.

Never again! i would give it zero stars if possible.

User

Very disappointed by our visit to the Dovecote today..... After speaking to a very helpful waitress regarding the state of a couple of our meals we then asked to speak to a manager. After telling the manager our concerns about the fact that the pastry on the steak and ale pie was very poor and that one of the kids burgers was burnt, his reply was that this was not the first time we had complained. To be fair this is not the first time we have complained, but I don’t believe this excuses the state of the food. If people didn’t make the staff aware of the poor standards then how does the business develop? The manager who spoke to us made us feel very uncomfortable about the fact that we had highlighted the shortcomings in the standard of the food. I felt that he was intimating that we were trying to avoid paying for what we had ordered. This was not the case. Although the manager did offer to discount the bill this was not the intention of the feedback we had given. I can’t say I would have been happy paying for the meals that were below standard, but I would of happily paid full price knowing that, that would be the last money the Dovecote would receive from me. The way the manager made me feel has ensured that my family and I will not be visiting again anytime soon. This is a shame, due to the fact that it is very local and the fact that in the past have chosen the dovecote as our preferred venue for socialising.

User

Ive had better service and food from a kebab house this 30 mins to get a drink and over priced would not recommend this place. My lasagne came out cold waited a further 10 mintues for it

This is a shame, due to the fact that it is very local and the fact that in the past have chosen the dovecote as our preferred venue for socialising.

Ive had better service and food from a kebab house this 30 mins to get a drink and over priced would not recommend this place. My lasagne came out cold waited a further 10 mintues for it

We were given the chance to try there new menu out , wow what can we say but thank you a lovely evening , great service , and the food was just amazing, the deputy manager was very attentive and nothing too much trouble ! Once again thank you

Thank you

A lovely place to unwind after a busy day at work x took the oportunity opportunity of a light tea time treat 2 meals for £14 before 5pm.

Both plates of food were tasty and well presented. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine - plenty of room and very clean. We look forward to our return and enjoying the interior x congratulations on the make-over, it's beautiful!

5* recommendation from us both x thank you for a lovely meal.
