It was a great pleasure to host How to change the world without burning out at International Women's Day Derby Festival 2019
Huge thank you to the incredible & inspiring panelists Lucy Kay (Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity sec) & Siobhan Caroline (Founder of Accessible Belper), our wonderful audience and Women's Day Derby for organising this important discussion! π
Here are some of the key themes n a nut shell...
... Self Care Tips * Nutrition & eating well e.g. leafy greens * Taking time out in the day to rest e.g. watching neighbours * Delegating responsibilities and tapping into networks for volunteers
How to Re-energize * Results of activism can re-energise e.g. seeing places become more accessible. * Cultivating relationships with family, friends & likeminded people
Parenthood as Activism * Role modelling and involving children in activism as an alternative education to cultivate empathy and compassion towards others. * Activism passed on to daughter who has a wider scope e.g. national & global.
Privilege * Recognising privilege but working from there. * Privilege as a gift from those who worked hard before us.
My Top Tip I held a visualisation exercise at the end and recommend 5-10 mins of switching off, reconnecting with your breath / natural rhythm, releasing tension & relaxing as a regular self care practice.
Are you an activist? What keeps you going? What does Self-Care look like to you?
Big love, Em x
