Emma Wardropper - Mindfulness Teacher & Psychotherapist Description

I am a trained Psychotherapist and use both Human Givens Therapy and Mindfulness techniques to support individuals.
I am also a trained mindfulness teacher who trained with The Midlands Centre for Mindfulness and Compassion.

Whilst working in a HR role at Capital One I introduced mindfulness to the organisation. I have personally benefited from Mindfulness and it has helped me manage my own disability - Multiple Sclerosis.
I am extremely passionate about sharing my personal story and my knowledge of integrating mindfulness into the workplace with others.

My achievements at Capital One to date have included over 400 of the 1000 staff attending a mindfulness introductory workshop, the design and implementation of a mindfulness room for all staff to use, the running of weekly guided meditation sessions for all staff and promoting and gaining business buy in to run regular 8-week mindfulness courses (4 per year, open to all staff). I integrated mindfulness into the Capital One values and day to day life through a mixture of events, talks and initiatives.

I recently introduced mindfulness into other organisations and have been running taster sessions, workshops and 8 week courses. I have also been holding individual private sessions using both Human Givens psychotherapy techniques and Mindfulness training to treat a variety of conditions (depression, anxiety and stress, panic attacks, anger problems, PTSD, phobias, traumas, low self-esteem, relationship problems, addiction, obsessions, self-harming, poor concentration, poor sleep, medical conditions with an emotional component).

Here are some lovely ideas for taking a break over the weekend. Remember sometimes even just feeling one breath can be helpful 😊👇
Mindfulness is all about *feeling* into our senses. When we practise, we use our 5 senses to anchor us to the present moment - over and over again.
In fact mindfulness is not so much about feeling better (although that can be one of the many benefits) but instead it’s about getting better at feeling!

I hope you manage to do some mindfulness practice today. Remember that kindness to self and others is a big and very important part of a mindful life too. On that note, I love this quote;
“If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else you will have succeeded” ~ Maya Angelou 💕

I wanted to share this quote from Thich Nhat Hanh ( Buddhist monk) I’ve seen recently;
“We are our thoughts; but we are at the same time much more than just our thoughts. We are also our feelings, our perceptions, our wisdom, our happiness, and our love. When we know we are more than our thoughts, we can make the determination not to allow our thinking to take over and dominate us.”

Your mental health is very important 🧠🌿

I read a great quote this recently by “Awakening Joy” author James Baraz:
“Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different; enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will); being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t)”. 🌸🌿🍁

I had an interesting example of Turning Towards Difficulty early today. I woke up to see a fairly large spider on the wall 😱 I was the only one in the house and am a bit scared of them. It was too high on the wall for me to catch it and I refuse to kill them. So, having no other option I used my mindfulness to try not to overreact!
I made myself look at it, noticing the size, shape, colour and actually realised how small it was in reality of the size of the room. I noticed h...ow scared it would be, remembered it wasn’t trying to hurt or scare me and was just being mindful and sitting doing nothing!
I also noticed the physical sensations of fear in my body and tried to let go of any unhelpful thoughts.
In the end I managed to get someone to safely remove it and re home it at the bottom of the garden. I’m proud of myself though so wanted to share an example of how mindfulness can help in the most random and silly situations too 🕷😱😁💕

Looking forward to leading a mindfulness taster session for fellow MS’ers this afternoon 😊

I hope you manage to be kind to yourself and take some time today to do some formal practise. No time like the *present*?! 😉😊

User

Don’t forget to be kind to yourself!
Why not give yourself the present of Kindfulness over the next few days? 💝
On our Present Mind App there’s a 10 min Loving Kindness practise (narrated by me! 👩🏼‍🏫) and a short 2 min Three Step Kindfulness practise (courtesy of Roz - under Extra Sessions)
... Also it can be helpful in times of unease or where you’re feeling a bit frazzled to quietly say to yourself “It’s OK” 🧘‍♂️ 💓💕

I was just reflecting on how it takes a lot of courage to be mindful. To simply trust in our awareness and in our senses. So don’t forget to congratulate yourself when you manage to do some practise 😊😁

Our minds can often feel very full. This is where our practise can be very helpful.
Why not try some different informal practise that you don’t often do. Mindful eating? Really listening to the sounds and words on songs? Or simply looking at the lights and decorations wherever you visit.
Connecting to your senses to simply be Mindful however full your mind feels. 🌿

I like this quote “The best teacher is someone who helps you find your inner teacher” ~ Thich Nhat Hahn
I believe that it can really help embed our own Mindfulness practise when we teach it to someone else. Why not have a chat to someone you know about it and how it can help them and maybe even do a guided session together 😊😁
The time of year can make our Mindfulness practise more of a challenge. It’s a busy time and can be stressful for many. If you’re struggling to fit any ...formal practise in why not start slowly - maybe just one minute of feeling your breath or listening to sounds. It may encourage you to do longer 😊
Also don’t forget that the Present Mind Mindfulness App has some shorter tracks - under Extra sessions - Three Step Breathing Space (3.5 mins) and Three Step Kindfulness (2 mins) 😊

I have just seen an advert for a WiFi enabled washing machine you can program remotely 😱 The next thing will be robots to load it for us I guess 😂
I do believe we have all this wonderful technology to make our lives easier but I think this is only the case if we learn how to use it, rather than letting it control us!
This is where I know that Mindfulness helps. It makes us more *aware* of everything we do and gives us *choice* and *control* over our thoughts and actions.
... You might like to reflect on some of the technology you use and make sure it’s not using you (phones, emails, social media). You can then chose to use it mindfully 😊
Right, I’m off to put some washing on the good old way 😁😂

We take around 22,000 breaths a day.
Have you given your mind a little rest today and simply felt a few breaths? Maybe you’d like to do it now 😊

Hi everyone, it’s Mental Health Awareness Day today. I truly believe that mindfulness and being present is the most helpful thing for our minds. I hope you choose to spend some time in the present moment today 😊

Just arrived at Saint Gobain for two mindfulness taster sessions. Early start so caffeine needed! 😁

Looking forward to leading the fourth mindfulness session for the custody staff today 😊

I wanted to share this quote from Mark Williams, Mindfulness author and psychology professor at Oxford;
“mindfulness cultivates our ability to do things knowing that we’re doing them.”
Sums it up quite nicely!
... You might like to try and bring more awareness to some routine activities you do today. Step off the autopilot 😊

I’ve had a very busy week and have noticed that my practice has reduced when in fact it should be when I do more!
We all have periods like this and it’s helpful to maintain our formal and informal practice even if it’s just shorter sessions we do.
If you are struggling to fit in your 10 minutes practice don’t forget the Present Mind Mindfulness app has the shorter 3 Step Breathing Space or 3 Step Kindfulness practices (just a few minutes!). Or maybe consider breaking down y...our 10 minutes to 2 sections 😊
