About Findern, A Wyevale Garden Centre

Welcome to our page. We are a part of Wyevale Garden Centres, bringing joy and inspiration to everyone's garden.

Findern, A Wyevale Garden Centre Description

Located just off the A38 in Findern, South Derbyshire and inspired by the Dig for Victory campaign, Findern Garden Centre started life in 1953 as Oakdale Nurseries, growing vegetables for roadside sales and the markets of Derby and beyond. Owned by the Woodhouse family and named after the surrounding oak trees, business boomed. By the 1970s, the range included bare-rooted stock wrapped in hessian and plants potted into jam tins to prolong the planting season, as well as countless Dutch bulbs promoted with a giant windmill at the entrance.

Woodhouse's innovations continued with the development of eco-compost with Percy Thrower and unusual plants imported from abroad, including, according to Central Television News, 'the largest rubber plant in captivity' at one stage!

To this day the centre's horticultural credentials remain impeccable, with top quality growing stock and helpful horticultural experts offering a warm welcome and sound advice to skilled and amateur gardeners alike.

Links with the local community are extremely strong and the centre supports several local and national charities. With an extensive range of products and concessions as well as a sleek new restaurant serving delicious home-cooked food, little wonder 4th generation customers from the same family are no rarity!

An important job to do in your garden is to check for signs of clematis wilt. It's a fungal disease which causes rapid wilting and can kill the whole plant. More information at :https://www.wyevalegardencentres.co.uk/t ips-and-advice_how-…

When the weather heats up, ponds need TLC too. The warmth will increase growth so use a rake to thin out any overgrown oxygenating plants and to remove duckweed from ponds.

Three generations of my family went for afternoon tea today. The service was fabulous and Leslie couldn't have been more accommodating with us, she was great. They made separate sandwiches for the vegetarians and offered alternative drinks for those of us who don't drink tea or coffee. I'd recommend them 100%.

The food was delicious.

User

One of her best cups of coffee I’ve had, scone and cake great. X

User

Lovely xmas meal with family yesterday it was plentiful and tasteful

User

Lovely welcoming staff in the cafe who made our visit really enjoyable. What a little gem that place is. :)

User

Layout and choice of things available is good and always use restaurant good food and coffee

User

Had afternoon tea with family today it was lovely and will deffinetly be back again :-) served by the lovely Leslie very polite and welcoming x

User

Had a lovely meal deal service was excellent and served with a smile food was delicious and will certainly use again, couldn’t fault it.

User

Breakfast with Santa this morning was lovely my 3 year old adored it and loved the chance to choose his gift! Meaning u get something they really like.

User

We enjoy going up there for a good look around. Some lovely garden items and things there too. Staff always pleasant. Plenty car park space. The cafe is nice but food/ cakes are pricey. Lovely coffee. The aquatic place is our favourite part. We have bought a tank and quite a few fish from there over the past few years. The staff are great and very knowledgable, nothing is too much trouble for them. All in all, a nice afternoon out in the car.

User

The garden centre itself is very good, though more expensive than it used to be and many of its competitors. The coffee/cappuccino is awful! What have you done to it???! We now feel the need to go home for a drink rather than stay in your cafe for one, it's undrinkable in our opinion. It's way too strong and bitter and leaves a strong, nasty after taste in the mouth. Please consider changing it back and having the smaller cup size again too. Part of our visits was for the coffee, I don't think we'll be such regular visitors anymore, certainly not at the cafe anyway.

User

Lovely place with such a big range of so many nice things....yesterday I got Xmas decs jigsaws my friend got clothes. We had a nice drink in the cafe. Shop staff helpful. Could spend hours looking round and I love your Christmas displays.....that adorable snoring bear 💓 some things a bit expensive only criticism.

User

Good selection of plants, craft, pottery and clothes, I did find it a tad expensive both plants (though they are good quality) and certainly the cafe - the staff there are brilliant friendly, helpful and caring. My friend had a fall whilst we were there and the firstaider was really nice and patient. Spent an enjoyable day there

User

Always love a walk round the garden centre have been coming since a very young age,I love to have either a cappuccino and cake or sometimes a lunch, always lovely and the staff are lovely too but attention does need to be paid the the cleanliness of the cutlery and plates

User

Went for Tea with Santa with my grandson. He enjoyed it but I have to say it’s very misleading as Santa did not appear until 4 pm and then only to hand out the presents, when we had been there an hour or more !

It would have been nice to have Santa ‘mingle’ whilst eating.

It could have been more smoothly run without such big gaps between everything, it’s a good job there was a play area !

User

Visited early afternoon today. Spent much less time than usual due to the awful Christmas 'music'. If you have to have Christmas music in October please pick something more tuneful.

User

The garden centre is good, clean and welcoming I do find that most of the products are priced quite high compared to outlets of a similar ilk, including the food. I don't mind paying a little more for a nice piece of cake but I think the cost of your sandwiches are taking the michael. A cheese salad sandwich comprised of two slices of bread with a slice of cheese and some salad on the side was almost £6. I will return.......but I won't have a sandwich again

User

Sorry it was hard to give a proper review as it was flooded the entrance was impossible to get in and when we came out the car park resembled a swimming pool but my granddaughter enjoyed the play area and the coffee was good

User

Please put the heating on during colder mornings. It’s no fun sitting in a coat having a coffee and scone!

Make it comfortable for us customers!

Improve your coffee and scones and you’ll have us happy again. Might even get four stars.

Staff are great it has to be said. They try hard to please but are up against management that do not listen

User

A big thumbs down for the normally very helpful Findern Wyevale .I had two vouchers bought for me by a dear friend. They unfortunately went through the wash but despite being legible they would not accept them .
