After delivering numerous successful poetry shows in Luton and Bedford, and most recently in Amsterdam, Soul Food Poetry have decided to come to grace Northampton with their presence.
Seven excellent local poets. A fantastic DJ. A house band. And food for the soul that allows herds of words to flow for the show. But most importantly, you, the audience.
The audience makes the show. Whether you are looking for good vibes, good music or good food; all can be found at an evenin...g with the Soul Food Poetry family. So come down, bring your people and immerse yourselves in positive vibrations and open honest refreshing spoken words!
Tickets can be found at the link below.
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/knock-knock- northampton-march-…

You’ll never go to a poetry event
as cool and as good as me –
from Bedford to Amsterdam
across counties and plentiful seas.

I’m a niche through and through,
from John Agard to Ben Zephaniah –
to Cooper Clarke and Kate Tempest
whose words twist like copper wire.

I’ve been blank verse,
a sonnet, and a medieval ode.
But with bards who bend punctuation
and manipulate grammatical codes

who put the spirit in Soul Food Poetry.
Not just a fancy name or brand.
I create communities,
many thanks to our host MP Yamfam.

Bet you’ve never been to a show
as good as me, Northampton.
Not with your Saints and Cobblers
and your farm shops in Chapel Brampton.

And now we have come to Shoe Town
where we plan to stay for a while
where spoken word and cool vibes
will mesh with the Derngate’s artistic lifestyle.

But sometimes the quirkiness of poetry
leads outsiders in suits to questions
like “Why is Northampton so famous
for those perfect Kinky Boots?”

Well, just between us at Soul Food Foodies –
if you want the truth, and I mean for real,
Come down to Foodies for some words
at the end of March, and I lovely nice meal.

What a fab place, food was fantastic really fresh and tasty, love the decor and great service. An absolute gem and something just a little bit different. Will be back

User

We were first timers at this restaurant last night, it was perfect for a stop off before a gig at the Roadmender. We did not want a huge meal with lots of couses and this was perfect, if you are still hungry after your first dish you just keep ordering. Food was fresh and very tasty, service was quick and friendly, will be going back !

User

We stumbled upon Foodies Rocks on Saturday evening. What a fab find! Really great tasting food and so much choice for a Vegan, and highlighting which wines on the menu are Vegan too was just brilliant - will definitely be back, cheers :-)

Visited on business & was really surprised to find a quirky establishment like this in the heart of Northampton. Free movies & Tekken games in the basement?! Something more akin to a trendy dining spot in Shoreditch.

Very friendly customer service, the best experience I've had in a long time. The young man who served me was polite, attentive & very helpful without being too OTT.

In short. The food was delicious. They recommend 2-3 tapas per person, but personally for me the portions are generous & 2 (plus a sweet tapas if you're partial to dessert & have room) was more than enough.

I went with the Korean fried Chicken which was gorgeous. The only other place that does Korean fried chicken this good, is Shackfuyu in Soho, London. (And those are wings, so much messier)

Pork buns were delicious & had a unique smoked flavour but the buns needed to be a little lighter & slightly more moist for a more authentic 'bao' taste. But very hearty & satisfying.

Fish Tacos- delicious, very generous with the coriander which some people might dislike but I loved it. The batter used to coat the fish was flavoursome & divine.

Churros for dessert - again generous portion, could easily be shared between 2. This was my least favourite dish. The Churros needed to thinner, less greasy & made with a sweeter batter, with a pot of chocolate to dip with on the side rather than drizzled on top... the chocolate sauce was spot on. Sweet & decadent, which is why I still ate 3/4 of the generously sized deep-fried dough squiggles & didn't regret it one bit.

I think the sweet tapas options need to be expanded, perhaps something quirky like matcha (green tea) soft-serve icecream or maybe a yuzu lemon tart ... but is Northampton ready for that?! ;)

Do I recommend?! Yes!! Absolutely.

This was our first visit and totally out of the blue,as my girlfriend and I just fancied lunch, and walked in to be greeted by pleasant staff, helpful and informative as to how to order and never pushy,my girlfriend being vegan found many courses were vegan or could be made vegan which is always a plus as not many places do cater for vegans, the waitress recommended we choose between 2-3 courses each, when looking at the menu such a great choice of dishes from the streets of the world, when the food arrived, after only ten mins which seeing as all dishes are cooked fresh was great,we were not disappointed, the food was fresh super tasty and looked amazing, thanks guys for a fab lunch,we shall be back cheers Paul and Lucie

User

This is our third time here..and I love it..it's the same service and quality of food..so I can count on it to be consistent. We have 3 dishes each..£5 each and a drink so the bill is around £36..and we are full!

The food is fresh..creative and I can eat it as vegan..there is a vegan wine and vegan beers to choose. I will definitely keep coming here

User

Thank you for a great night! Allowing us to have the basement to ourselves....everything I asked you allowed me to do! X great place..lovely staff and tasty food. Thank you foodies you definately rock! xxx

User

So i was surprised this valentines to food at foodies.rock and this year we were joined by Miss Evie G, our 11 year old daughter, and the said establishment couldn't have been more accommodating. The 'streetfood' was fabulous, the staff were so polite and couldnt do enough..but also did not pester you constantly ( a huge bugbear of mine). After the meal we went down stairs to watch a cheesy valentine film and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The staff brought us down a huuuge bowl of popcorn and Evie was happy beating the crap against her dad on the retro arcade game machine. All in all a fabulous day/evening. I would definitely recommend Foodies.rock, i just hope it doesn't get too busy now!

User

My new favourite place, I've been twice now and just keeps getting better.... absolute hidden gem in the town can't wait to visit again and again and again!!!

User

Loved this place went last night for cocktails and decided to eat there and ended up staying most of the night. The food and cocktails were great, the ambience quirky but relaxing and all the staff were very friendly, helpful will definitely go back.

User

Just had an amazing lunch at Foodies- gorgeous ambiance, completely unique in Northampton and somewhere comfortable and relaxed enough to go in leggings and no make up, with great, great food.

As someone who ALWAYS orders a couple of starters, or a sharing platter as I prefer to eat that way, street food was awesome and just what I fancied.

I've never eaten anything that I tried today which was even better!!

Love it, see you Friday!!! X

User

I visited foodies a few months back after finding it online.. It was everything I expected and more, my new fave place. Cannot wait to come back!

User

Delicious food, great beer and Cool place!! Love it!

User

The decor and music was different and interesting enough without being too distracting. The service was friendly and helpful. All of the food was very tasty, fresh and a bit different. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was that the modest portions of cassava chips were tasty , but priced at £5 each (the same as the other dishes) they were too expensive - £3.50 would be about right.

The basement looked great and we had a game of table football before leaving.

Highly recommended.

User

Ok so had dinner at Foodie Rocks last night and it was AMAZING! Half their menu is vegan/vegetarian which suited my husband and I as I'm veggie and he's not and so tasty and different to anything we've had in northampton before. It's based on street food and totally yummy!! It has a really nice vibe and staff were helpful with the menu, friendly and attentive. They also do take-away! (I didn't give it a 5 because the loos are under par....need some bleach in there)

User

Had this recommended by a couple of friends and didn't disappoint. Really tasty food, great cocktails and lovely servers. As long as you are happy for the food to come as it's ready this is a really lovely meal. Recommend!

User

My partner is a vegetarian and the options for her were a bit lacking. The cassava chips were lovely but the sweetcorn tasted a little funny. The hipster cola tasted like mince pies and the churros need a small sprinkling of sugar. I had the fish tacos which were lovely shame they didn't do a veggie one and the beef skewers were nice too. My Natas though had a raw dough bottom and hadn't been blind baked. I will probably be back but sadly doubt the other half will.

User

Just ordered a reasonable sized order for 4 people and collection. Specifically asked for everything to be served as hot as possible. Got it back about 4 mins from the place and everything was stone cold and had to be heated. Every time i’ve ordered from here things have been luke warm, shame because the food tastes great even re-heated.

User

We went to Foodies Rocks tonight for the first time as a group of 4. Initial impressions were good - somewhere a little different, with a quirky menu.

Moving forwards, we were explained that we had to fill in a form to order food and bring to the bar to order. This was fine, food ordered and paid for to then be told that there was a wait on food, so our meals would take a little longer than normal. Common courtesy would be to tell customers before hand. Food came out and was either under or over seasoned, depending on the plate. The food also seemed over complicated such as adding peanuts to bao buns?!

Cutlery is throwaway wooden stuff which feels cheap. Only one salt shaker in the whole restaurant so had to wait ages to salt our unsalted, soggy chips. There were also no napkins on the table which is something we found out once we picked up the messy chapati curry rolls, so we had to wonder around the restaurant with sauce covered hands trying to find some.

I told the two members of staff my opinions and was told that It’s a self-serve set up so things like napkins and salt won’t be on the table, in a very matter of fact way. I felt like the comments fell on deaf ears, hence writing this review. You can’t expect people to feel happy spending money eating out, to then have to get your own napkins and wait to be able to salt your own food. It’s a restaurant, not a fast food chain. If you want to do that, lower your prices and get your service and processes slicker.

I’m left feeling annoyed that we spent £65 on a substandard meal with a crap dining experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back or recommending to anyone.

What a fab place, food was fantastic really fresh and tasty, love the decor and great service. An absolute gem and something just a little bit different. Will be back
