Another fabulous day for the fete held last Saturday - luckily I'd stocked up on the Pimms! Osmaston Band were wonderful as always and we were treated to flyovers from a both Hurricane and Spitfire and also the Tiger Moth from Vintage Flying paid us a visit! We had a great turn out and the funds raised are so vital to support St. Pauls church.

Looks to be a sunny one (yet again - we're so lucky!) for the "Scropton & Foston St.Pauls Church SUMMER FETE" from 1.30pm, this coming Saturday (1st June). Held in the church and on the lawn behind Foresters in Scropton (DE65 5PP). The afternoon will include various stalls to browse, flypast by RAF Hurricane, music by Osmaston Band, traditional games, snack bar serving hot pork rolls, burgers & crepes, licensed bar (lagers, beers, cider, wine, Pimms and gin), homemade cakes in the church and the very popular auction! The Vintage Pink shop will be open until 4.30pm (with lots of special offers for the day only) but please note that Foresters Tearoom will close early as we'll be again running the snack bar and licensed bar in the garden. Last orders in the tearoom are 1pm. Hope to see you Saturday x

It's all go in the Foresters Tearoom kitchen this morning with freshly baked scones (a double batch today as we've been selling out!), millionaire's shortbread, walnut cake and Victoria sponge. If you're coming for lunch we have: Foresters Ploughman's (with our quail egg Scotch eggs), Homemade cheese & tomato quiche served with new potatoes, homemade coleslaw and salad. Derbyshire pikelets and crepes are freshly made to order with a choice of toppings. Our pikelets with scra...mbled bantam eggs are delicious!! There's a choice of three homemade soups and various sandwich platters. Open today, and every Saturday 11-4pm.

That's the beans in (runners and dwarf). For the first time I'm trying a system of raised beds (with the runner bean supports linked to form an arbour over the path). They are filled with all homemade compost. I've constructed a new quail enclosure within my large bantam coop. I've had a few losses from foxes/cats recently so this should keep the little bods safer as they are double enclosed. The area is 2m x 1m and is full height (so no more flight injuries) - it even has a door! I have seven quail in here and they've settled in well. I've made this padded, upholstered box pelmet to dress my kitchen window and I'm so pleased with how it's turned out. I desperately wanted to use this fabric in the kitchen as if ties in all the colours but didn't have enough for roman blinds and actually thought they would obscure to much of the view anyway. The pelmet adds the luxe feel I wanted and hides the fixings for plain roller blinds.
