About Gcrn - Rushcliffe Halt
GCRN Heritage Railway Station serving the community in the northern part of East Leake in Nottinghamshire
Gcrn - Rushcliffe Halt Description
Rushcliffe Halt is a railway station serving the community north of East Leake, and is the only surviving Great Central Railway London Extension station with twin platforms (as opposed to the GC standard 'island' platform). The stations was built as a later addition to the railway, opening in 1911 to serve the adjacent Rushcliffe Golf Club. Later, sidings would be added to serve the nearby gypsum works. The station closed to passengers in 1963 as part of the famous Beeching Axe, although freight continued to serve British Gypsum until the early 1980s.
During the 1990s, the line and station entered preservation. In 2000 freight trains to the gypsum works resumed and in 2003 a regular passenger service was restored to the station.

Thank you to the hardy visitors who came to see trains pass through Rushcliffe Halt today. Not a great day for 'normal' photographs - so a few with atmosphere...

Brilliant perseverance to get this job done!

More digging! - and more discoveries - for the intrepid S&T Team at Hotchley Hill
Another busy day today at Rushcliffe Halt - with lots of variety provided by the bus fleet as they toured from the Heritage Centre.
Being absolute experts in all things bus we can confidently say this is a big red one! 😂
A very busy day today - thanks to all those who visited. The daisy display may almost be over for another year but there still is some colour provided by the remaining wildflowers.
...and the rare use of the up loop.
Digging...
Warm weather for working...
Following the news of the vandalism to the station, the railway's supporting charity - the LNER(GC) Heritage Trust - have agreed to host an appeal which will allow people to donate to help cover the costs of the repair and efforts to deter such behaviour in the future - it can be found at: http://www.lnergcheritagetrust.co.uk/news
No happy update from Rushcliffe Halt today. It seems the station has been selected as the next location for vandalism on the railway with windows broken on the down platform shelter.
This will divert precious time and resources from where the real efforts should be focused on creating and maintaining this unique station on the preserved GCR in Nottinghamshire.
If anyone knows a good local company who might be able to sponsor some replacement glass please let us know. Otherwise, guess where the proceeds of our sales and generous donations form supporters and customers to further the station development will need to be spent instead.
The weekly update from Hotchley Hill. Perhaps we could be creative and say discovery of a water feature?...
The Daisy's are out with abundance again at Rushcliffe Halt.
Great to see so many people pay a visit having been to the model event at Quorn. Thanks very much to all for showing an interest and making the effort to visit us.
The regular Hotchley Hill update sees steady progress by the S&T Team...
We are pleased to announce a welcome boost of £2000 to our fund in wake of the vandalism suffered at the end of April courtesy of our friends at British Gypsum here in East Leake.
This now puts the fund at close to £13000. You can find more info including how to donate here: http://www.lnergcheritagetrust.co.uk/news
On one of the other Facebook Pages tonight related to the GC (unfortunately a closed group so we can't share) there is a request for any images of the Rushcliffe Halt Booking Office (the one at the top of the slope access to the down platform by the overbridge). We only know of one that shows it close up in detail - the rest all show if in the distance.
Can anyone help? has anyone got photos of the booking office they can share?
