Grant Bazin Practical Horsemanship

About Grant Bazin Practical Horsemanship

Grant Bazin is a sympathetic horsetrainer specialising in Young horse training, remedial training and provides both livery training and home visits.

Grant Bazin Practical Horsemanship Description

Grant was born in Epping, Essex, but was raised in the Northamptonshire countryside. He started riding from a very early age, competing at all the county and major shows – representing England at Pony Club level at the age of 14. His family over the years have all been involved in the horse business, his father and sister running a successful wedding carriage company, and his brother Darren is a three times world champion farrier.
Upon leaving school, Grant harboured ambitions to be a National Hunt jockey and rode successfully for leading trainers Kim Bailey and Geoff Hubbard at all the major racecourses.
When weight problems forced Grant out of the racing saddle, he left the UK and took up a career in the rodeo arena as a bull rider where he rode with much success competing at many international events in the USA, Australia and New Zealand his final ride being at the Westpac arena in New Zealand in front of 14000 people. During this time he also began to hone his skills with horses by working on a leading thoroughbred stud from time to time in Australia, starting all the young horses.
Upon returning to the UK he began to work with Ian Vandenberghe (a Monty Roberts Instructor). Grant writes, ‘I had been using body language and pressure /release in my training but it was only when I began working with Ian that I leant the reasons behind why it worked and the psychology with it’. During his period of working with Ian Grant found it was like going back to school – everyday he learnt so much and he continues to learn from the horses each day.
In 2001 Grant began to ride for Monty Roberts on his European Tours. He remembers, ‘It was a great honour to ride for Mr Roberts and I relish the opportunities he has provided for me, both in the UK and abroad. Every demonstration was an opportunity to learn and I grabbed it with open hands’.
IN 2007 Grant began touring and demonstrating his work with horses on his own tours, demonstrating in many countries from as far afield as Sweden to Zimbabwe, Germany to Singapore and continues to do so.
IN 2014 Grant won (with his business partner Dan Wilson) the first ever British Championship of Horsemanship
Grant’s home is now an established yard near Banbury, Oxfordshire where he takes in young and problem horses to be trained using the non-violent concepts he has learnt and continues to study and promote. He has truly made horses his life and the love of his work shines through in every demonstration he gives and horse that he works with.

All set up and sat in shade.ready at Festival of Horsemanship today in Sussex, 2 great horses to work with, a remedial starter and a horse that never loads to go home!! The sun is shining should be a great day all round.

With the Royal wedding today, patriotism was spreading like wildfire...

Doing a bit of ponying (riding and leading) from my old boy Racey today, helping with a mare with a traffic phobia and giving confidence to a young horse whilst having feet handled. Racey has helped me with many horses doing this job..and along with my super stars of Izzy Dascalescu and Sabrina Pagliarini he is a vital part of the NewLeaf farm team he just works much shorter hours!!

User

It has been a great week on the farm , with huge progress with all the young horses and remedial horses in for training. Everything is so much easier and more fun with a bit of sun. In little video below Sabrina and Izzy are working with the lovely Nora on only her third ride.

Just getting on train at Birmingham International.... Enjoy my travels but theres no place like home...

Its last day of exams in Holland for e-quine.com students. Flying home this evening. Been great few days teaching equine and human students alike watching their interactions, bonds of trust and relationships grow. One thing that is so important in our relationships of all kinds ..with our horses and with our fellow species, in business, in private etc is consistancy. It is impossible for our horses to respond to us without confusion if we are not consistan...t in our actions and with our boundaries, this just leads to a breakdown in any relationship... A request on the line should be backed up by appropiate body language or vice versa, but when what we are asking on a line is different to what we are communicating with our body its like saying one thing to somebody and then acting completely differently which only leads to confusion and resentment even within our own species...imagine what its like for a horse!! A simple example of another inconsistancy is to allow your horse to rub against you when you are maybe in your old dirty yard clothes, then expect him to know difference when you are at a show in your smart shirt and jacket, how could he? Throughout our training and interactions with our horse at all levels and life in general consistancy is key!!

Went to a 1 day practical horsemanship course with Grant at the end of May and found it to be both informative and inspiring. So wanted to pass on some of the improvements we've had with our horse since that day: Improvements with general handling, standing still when getting on and off, correcting misbehaviour in loading, calming him down before going out for hacks. That single day has basically given us the tools and confidence to working with him in a more controlled and consistent way and allowed us to put improvements in place feeling confident we're doing it in the best way possible. Massive Thanks Grant, Izzy and Sabrina, so we wouldn't hesitate to get Grants help if needed.

Thank you Grant for sorting my tricky loader today. She didn't look at all tricky in your hands! I'm sure you have magical powers! Can't believe we drove out twice with her on. So, so happy. Will keep practicing with her now.

Just returned from my first trip in my new horsebox! At the start of the summer my horse wouldn't load- Grant did a session with us- and what a difference! Didn't think we would ever have the confidence to go out as we have today. Can't recommend or thank Grant enough

I sent my rising 4 year old to Grant and his team for backing and breaking in having seen Grants work on a few occasions. I had the opportunity to visit my horse whilst Grant and the girls were working with him. This really inspired me to carry on the excellent work they did with him so I signed up for the 1 day practical horsemanship course to further my ground work skills. I have had a fantastic day! The team were excellent, we had the opportunity to work with our own horses and other people’s horses under expert instruction. Regardless of how long you have had horses, everyone can learn something new. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who handles horses on a regular basis, I have come away with lots to work on, new ideas and new skills to practice, thoroughly enjoyable and so much fun had by all . Thankyou Grant, Izzy and Sabrina, you are all fantastic at what you do. Xx

User

I met Grant 1 week before yesterday in which he used my horse Marty for his demonstration at the Country Galloway Fair. I advised Grant Marty was impossible to load by hand myself and it would always be a struggle. Well...Grant had him in half an hour not only loading without hesitation but actually wanting to load. I can honestly say no one has had this positive influence and progression before with Marty. Grant, I thank you for your help and advice and I'm looking forward to learning more and moving forward.

User

I have seen Grants demos several times each time I have learnt something new. I have been on the taster day twice and I am so grateful for the experience and would recommend anyone to go on it, Grant is amazing teacher. If anyone has any problem with any horse I would confidently recommend Grant and trust he can help.

I attended the basic horsemanship course on the 24 March and i wanted to say how much i enjoyed it. I had the opportunity to go into the round pen to do join up and then long liningnunder supervision. I had a great day listening and learning about horses and watched Grant load a horse who did not understand what she was supposed to do. Very good value for money.

Grant worked with my youngster at the South Cambs country fair, he worked on desensitization, ground work and loading. He did an awesome job with Milo, his method and way of explaining things are so easy to understand. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity for Milo to take part in Grant's demos.

User

Grant had my unbroken gelding and from being a little monkey he returned home a sweet loving and a very amenable lad. My friends now have him and he is learning to be driven and he has taken to it like a duck to water. I would have no hesitation in recommending Grant to anyone.

User

Grant came out today to help me on my first trip with my new horse and lorry , thank you for your time , knowledge , skill and patience , totally invaluable , needless to say we had a very successful trip and am feeling very confident for future journeys

User

Grant borrowed my horse Kid for a demo at Kelmarsh Country Show on Easter Monday to help me with loading and groundwork issues. He had never met him before and yet after just two 45 minute demos, Kid was a reformed horse and now walks on the lorry without even the slightest hesitation! His ground manners have improved and I came away feeling positive and with some great tips to work on. I cannot thank you enough, you have really lifted a massive weight off my chest and I would highly recommend you! Thank you thank you thank you!

User

Grant borrowed my Appaloosa/quarterhorse for demo at Cotswold Show today, didn't start well when I left a frantic message on Grant's phone at 9.30 saying I couldn't load Cruz in the box (I'd been trying for 2 hrs!!). Grant dropped everything and came straight out to me loaded Cruz in less than 10 mins having never met me or the horse before and we raced off to the show only to arrive 15 mins before his first demo!!!! Grant was amazing and showed me that the reason for all the problems was Cruz was dominating me. He was right, by the end of the day I could get on him without worrying about being cow kicked, I discovered I could ride him without a bridle! and he could load with no lead rein Amazing I am a very happy girl tonight

Flow is 4 years old and had never had any contact. She was unbroken. We struggled with behaviours especially when we tried to take her head collar. Someone told us about Grant. So to give our Flow a chance we decided to send her to Grant.

After 2 months my daughter has actually started to ride her.

Grant Bazen and Lotty are 100% dedicated to our horses, they are fantastic.

User

Brilliant day and being able to work with my own horse and join up was amazing under grants tuition. Learnt lots of techniques and taking a lot away from the course to work on. Definitely recommend attending. Thank you grant and his team
