Our Story
Grimsby Fisheries stands for more than a national award winning fish and chip shop. There is a family run spirit to this place that has developed from its very beginning.
Located in the heart of Leicester, the shop has a heritage dating as far back as 1940. What is now one of the largest fish and chip restaurants in England was once just a tiny shop with a sign reading “Grimsby Fisheries fish, rabbit and poultry.”
... Having bought the shop in 1966, the Eleftheriou-Karageorge family soon realized the potential the site had. More than four times its original size, Grimsby Fisheries has expanded the business from offering just takeaway fish and chips to becoming a fully licensed restaurant.
Our menu includes mouth watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, among many other selections including southern fried chicken, burgers, scallops, classic mushy peas and more. We remain dedicated to serving the finest quality food and this is testament to the selection of awards received. In 1990, Grimsby Fisheries became the first fish and chip shop to serve salmon, winning an accolade for enterprise. Most recently in 2011, we invented the dry salt and vinegar rub that received national acclaim. This product was designed to find an answer to the age-old problem of soggy chips and illustrates Grimsby Fisheries desire to revolutionize the fish and chip industry.

Wouldn't go anywhere else. I make sure I get some every time I visit back home. Portions sizes are big and the fish and chips is amazing

Went for a last minute meal tonight with husband and two grandchildren ages 6 and 8. I was nervous as my 8 yr old grandson is a type 1 diabetic which means I have to weigh his food to enable me to count carbs for his insulin delivery via attached body pump. He is also a little self conscious about doing this in public. I needn't have worried as the young girl who looked after our table was great. She gave me a separate plate so I could measure his food and didn't make him feel at all "different". The food was lovely. Place was clean and very busy. Highly recommend. Thanks for a pleasant evening.

The staff are very friendly excellent service and lovely food will definitely be coming here again.

Really clean and pleasant environment . Staff were very pleasant and helpful would recommend it to anyone who loves fish 🐟 and chips .. meal was huge way too much for me but prices were good 😊 too x

Only one problem. portions are too big, I had to leave some, almost broke my heart!

This was my 5th visit & its always the same, nice & friendly, very clean, excellent service & good food. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I come home to Leicester every Christmas from Greece,and we come to the cafe every year as my Greek husband is crazy about your fish and chips! He will not go anywhere else!great quality food with great size portions and friendly service,see you next year!

Loved this place for a very long time... best f&c in the UK!

Lefty and his family have created, in my opinion, the best fish n chip shop in Leicestershire. The generous portions and quality of food set a standard that other shops need to try to acheive.

Great food at a good price. Always fresh and all served with welcoming friendly service. They can never fail to impress me time after time and on the last 2 occasions my mother has been with us and they have won here over and she is the fussiest eater I know.

Fabulous food and staff who care .. they told us they stay open until the last customer leaves .. great attitude

Good fish n chips, ask for the cod which doesn't have skin, which it is how it should be!
