HAPPY CHRISTMAS FROM ALL AT HARRINGTON AVIATION MUSEUM

Back in the summer, a few intrepid members of the museum travelled to Hendon to look at the B-24 Liberator. We were very fortunate to be allowed to look inside through the bomb bay and nose wheel hatch. This Liberator was donated to Hendon from the Indian Air Force and is one of the few still in original 1940's condition inside (according to Ted).

House of Cambridge is delighted to announce that tickets are on sale for UNITED! The first in its series of ‘extraordinary events’ – in this instance in collaboration with some of Cambridge’s finest arts & cultural brands including the Cambridge Cocktail Weekend, the Cambridge International Jazz Festival, the Cambridge Film Festival and Neon Moon Burlesque & Cabaret Club – UNITED! is described as “a hangar dance on steroids, with a film premiere in the middle”.
For one night ...only, in two spectacular hangars at IWM Duxford, guests will experience a kaleidoscopic night of entertainment including 1940’s cocktails, pin-ups, delicious food from The Grill Sergeant, two live bands (a big jazz band to get dancing shoes out for, plus a ‘Puppini Sisters’ style trio to charm the audience), reenactors, Prosecco, an immersive vibe with an international Master of Ceremonies as Wing Commander for the night, all wrapped around the UK film premiere of ‘Magpie’, an independent UK film shot in East Anglia, centered around the friendly invasion of American troops in WWII.
In the film we’ll meet Lily (Hannah Morrish) whose husband, George, (Matt Downton) suffers the physical and psychological anguish of his experiences on the front line. Amidst the frantic pace of the ‘friendly invasion’ of the U.S. Eighth Air Force, Lily finds comfort in the companionship of Charlie (Mateo Oxley), an American serviceman stationed nearby. Her feelings for both lead us on a journey of love, loss, fear and friendship.
During the night, guests will be jumped back in time to a period of rations and blackouts, where posters abounded stating that ‘to dress extravagantly in wartime is worse than bad form, it is unpatriotic’. However, we’re bending the rules and guests are encouraged to come in their finest and in character. A bottle of champagne will be awarded to the best-dressed party-goer.
Tickets are available at www.houseofcambridge.com/united and priced £32.50 standard / £50 VIP. A small booking fee applies. https://www.facebook.com/events/314531552 443344/ @thehouseofcambridge #united

Stanley E. Swain was a Top Turret Gunner and Flight Engineer on the B-24 Liberator "Baby Bug" as part of Captain Runyon Coleman's Crew. The picture shows Stanley's son Mike and his wife Julie at the door his father would have walked through on his way for a briefing. Mike and Julie were over from America and spent a few hours with us.

We wanted to visit a aviation museum and came across this one in Northampshire. It was such a little gem, full of interesting stories and unique items. We really enjoying having a cuppa tea whilst walking around exploring the exhibits. The guys who run the museum are full of knowledge and wanted to show s the first mobile phone and Disney drawing along with the true story underlying this place in history. There's so much to read that we will be visiting again to catch up .
