Remember we do a free brake check at Ilkeston Garage. This was some rear brakes that came into us for a free check. From the outside surface everything looked fine but just look at the inner face! There’s at least 30% of the braking surface not in contact with the brake pad resulting in poor brake performance!

Just to let people know we’ve had to put our vehicle aircon service-regas price up!
Unfortunately the price of gas R134a has rocketed up due to new legislation about storing the gas, so I’m told. So for this reason our price has had to go up. If this was a small amount we would have absorbed the price but this is not the case as gas has gone up three fold.
We are really sorry for this, I have done price checks and we are still the cheapest in the area and will price match an...ywhere that provide the same full, correct and professional service. Please be aware that if the price is too cheap it’s normally to good to be true and there will be hidden costs.
As we pride ourselves on being honest and professional the price you pay is all you will pay providing no additional work needs to be carried out. I.e if you have any leaks etc.
Our price for a AC service re-gas and leak test will be
£54.95 all inclusive!

How to drive in the snow • Accelerate gently, use low revs and change up to a higher gear as quickly as possible • Move off in second gear as this will help reduce wheel slip. • Get your speed right and maintain safe stopping distances between you and the car in front, leaving as much as 10 times the normal recommended gap • Prepare for an uphill by leaving plenty of room in front so you can maintain a constant speed without the need for changing gear... • Use a low gear for going downhill and try to avoid braking unless necessary, make sure you leave plenty of space between you and the car in front • When approaching a bend, brake before you actually start to turn the steering wheel. If your car does lose grip try not to panic; the key thing is to take your foot off the accelerator and make sure that your wheels are pointing in the direction you want to go in • If you do encounter a skid, steer gently into it. • When driving in heavy snow, make sure that you use your dipped headlights. Relying on daytime running lights is not enough, because they don’t always put lights on the back of your car. • If the road has not been gritted, be wary of driving in the wheeltracks or other vehicles as compressed snow is likely to be more icy than fresh snow • Controls such as the brakes, as well as the steering, accelerator and even gear changing should be operated smoothly and slowly

One of my customers had his car in a main dealer yesterday for some recall repairs. I won’t say where! He brought it in to me today to check if it had been carried out which it had BUT...........
When he went to collect car they said it needed a new water hose as it was leaking 🤔. They wanted to charge him a ridiculous price to replace this so called leaking pipe, bearing in mind the recall was on some water pipes to the water pump. Think we all know we’re this is going.
Any...way he brings it to me today like I said to check out. Not only is there NO leak but they can’t even put the under tray cover back properly as you can see in the photo.
Main dealers are not always the best place to take your car. As the work can on the most part be expensive and poor quality workmanship
Always try and find a reputable family run garage like ourselves to get your car serviced and maintained as we look after Your car like it’s our own and we actually care about our customers as we want you to come back. Unlike these big places where all the staff think about is making it to Friday and collecting a wage.
Anyway just thought I’d share this with you as it’s always the so called back street garages that get a bad name.

Focus ST alternator.
Bit tight this one. Tucked away under inlet manifold. Not a bad job but a little awkward and time consuming.
Again only top quality parts used. This was a brand new alternator not one of the cheap remanufactured parts that you can pick up for less money. Buy cheap buy twice!!
... We never fit inferior parts at Ilkeston Garage. We want our customers to be happy in knowing they have good parts fitted professionally. And parts you can rely on, You may be able to shop around for a cheaper price but sometimes it doesn’t pay to do so.

Repair to a transit connect van after some scumbag tried to steal it.
All fitted back with new steering lock, ignition barrel and lock plus the all important tamper proof bolts. As always we only use the correct quality parts @ilkestongarage

Will definitely be taking my car there in future for my MOT & any work that may need doing in the future.
