ordered the avocado/salmon/poached egg on bloomer bread- delicious, eggs perfectly cooked I also had a slice of caramel apple pie and a cappuccino, both super tasty. lovely staff!

User

We visited this shop while on vacation (having been told about it by some locals). This did not disappoint! A great coffee shop with a friendly atmosphere. Knowledgeable, helpful staff and of course it always smells wonderful!!!! My kids bought me the "coffee of the month" club as a gift and I'm super excited to receive my coffee each month!

User

There was 4 of us and we were all very happy with both the quality and quantity of the food, including cakes. We tried 2 different coffees and 2 different teas, all as described. Service was excellent.

User

Sat here enjoying my second cup of Christmas blend coffee... it really does taste like Christmas in a mug! So enjoyable. Can't wait to try the other flavours we got from Santa!!

User

Review is for your Coffee Shop in Carlisle Castle, we visited it today and the coffee was great, the young lady serving, sorry didn't get her name, was a credit to your business. She was pleasant, knew her coffees and helpful. We will return and I will continue to purchase my speciality tea and coffee from your store. Well done Watts.

User

Popped in for a " coffee stop " whilst enjoying an afternoon of retail therapy, would usually have a " Fruit Scone " but decided on the " Toasted Cheese Scone " - with chutney for a change .... lovely coffee, lovely scone, lovely place .... great customer service .... Thank you :-)

User

One of the more popular coffee shops in Carlisle offering a wide range of different coffee blends and teas together with a good choice of snacks and bakery products

User

My husband and I visited earlier today was sat and served very quickly and efficiently the scones and tea were delicious and we were made to feel very welcome and not at all rushed I would highly recommend for a true cup of tea or coffee.

User

My favorite coffee shop, just a shame you're not closer to dumfries. Anytime I visit Carlisle, I always pop in to stock up on coffee. My new favourite is chocolate cherry! Lovely, cheery staff and always so helpful and welcoming

User

I love this quaint little coffee shop. So old fashioned and I hope it stays that way!

Coffee is always good and the variety is awesome. I absolutely love their cheese scones, which on their own with butter are delicious, but toasted, with butter and a bit of chutney, my goodness! It's a taste sensation!! Cakes are awesome too.

User

I am one of John Watt's Tea Ladies! I buy all my loose leaf tea there and boy can our house go through tea. Their blends of teas end up also out to our family in Switzerland - my brother in law can't get decent blend versions out there.

Their teas (& indeed coffee beans) are great. The Staff are knowledgebase and helpful and put up amazingly well with me asking for 4 quarters of this, 2 of that & 2 of another when I'm in!

They will also grind the coffee beans to whatever grade you need for your machine and of course as they roast on site, the smell is always Devine.

Great shop. Highly recommended

User

Had the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with toast - but usually it's the toasted cheese scone with chutney - the coffee here is lovely - but so is the tea. The staff are really friendly and helpful and it's always a good atmosphere.

User

Good service and excellent hot chocolate and coffee.

User

Came today with the kids to see the poppies and called in for drinks and snacks. Fantastic service very welcoming and pleasant friendly staff. Georgia even came out and noticing we had a dog asked if we would like a bowl of water for him and kept filling it up until he was quenched. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks for making us feel welcome.

User

Very good food and coffee or tea. Table service. Big selection of coffee and tea types. Old fashioned and homely.

User

Lovely cafe lovely atmosphere with great snacks and drinks at fair prices however I was there today ordered a sandwich ham and sliced egg and a pot of tea. I had noticed the sandwich was £6.95 so expected a quality salad crisps or something exceptional for the price however I was disappointed to find your average sandwich and a small average side salad with dressing. I commented whilst at the till that had I known it wasn’t anything above average I’d have gone for the afternoon tea which had any sandwich with cream scone and a tea or coffee for over £1 less but wasn’t happening. Staff are always friendly enough but I will be reluctant to return at almost £10 for a basic sandwich and pot of tea.

User

Called in this morning for coffee & a scone, disappointed that the filter coffee was weak not the rich roast coffee we used to enjoy. The cheese scone looked promising on the counter but it was dry & tough (if a scone can be tough), as if the dough had been worked like bread dough, it had little taste. This was our 2nd visit since the change of ownership & neither visit has been good.

There were approx 2 dozen customers in with 9 staff yet the service was mediocre; there was an unecessary delay in our order being taken & the waiter almost dropped our 2 coffees at the table. I would also add that if you are going to seat customers in front if the cake counter it should stand up to scrutiny, it wasn't dirty as such but needed a clean.

There needs to be much improvement in standards to restore one of our favourite haunts to its former 'go to place' for coffee in Carlisle.

User

Me, my husband & our 4 year old son - Walked in to be told currently they had no tables, We went back later on to be seated, for then another member of staff come & tell us we couldn’t sit there! I explained that her colleague had just sat us down “that table over there are moving to this one & she didn’t know” leaving us having to walk out extremely embarrassed( for what I could see this was one young girl, sat on a table of 2 - the same person that on our first attempt rudely pushed passed us with another lady to get through the door!) This would of been our fist visit to John watts, we will not be trying again! Extremely rude customer service!

User

Entered the shop and was told to take a table anywhere, the cafe was not really busy at the time. Sat down and then waited about 5 mins before we got a menu, which we received from one of the kitchen staff who noticed I was looking around for service. Waited another 10 mins before our order was taken, which happened only after three other customers came in were seated given menu's and two of those customers had their orders taken and had received their food. The third customer was about to be served when I interrupted and asked if we could order as we had been there before the other customers. Our order was taken and our food arrived. However our drinks did not. Then the third customer came over and asked if we had ordered a tea and a latte, which we did, apparently our drinks were given to them. So the customer brought our drinks over to our table. Also the 2nd customer had order a pot of tea, they then asked for a pot of hot water as the tea was very strong, after 10 mins of waiting, they then had to ask again. It was as if we were just an inconvenience, and should not have been there. Very disappointing as we are from Australia and this was our first visit to Carlisle and it has left us with a bad impression of Carlisle.
