••A bit of History for our lovely Loungers••
Back in 1909, we know that the building showed the first moving picture in Kettering, hence the name Kino - German for cinema.
But a few weeks ago we had a lovely couple that came in and explained that this grand building had some more exciting history, so we thought we'd share their story with you.
... "Kino had been a very successful cafe before, the Kettering Market Cafe. Occupying the two front rooms of the building, with the larger main room of the building housing a substantial Billiard Hall. The Proprietor was my Grandfather, Leonard Davies Abbott, he and my Grandmother, Grace, ran the cafe together from the early 1930's."
"His sister Flo, (who married William Henry Chester) ran the billiard halls at the back and upstairs."
"The ramped side entrance is where the kitchen for the cafe used to be and the seating now occupy the original counter area. I, in effect, ‘sat on the counter’ during my visit." - as seen in the photo
“The current Mezzanine floor, which had previously been the cinema’s projection room, was a part of the Billiard Hall facilities. The area which is now the ladies’ toilets was used as a storage area. I remember finding WW2 gas masks in this area, including one for babies.”
“They both worked exceedingly hard in running the café six and a half days per week. They were ably assisted by their two daughters and son, even I did some washing up as a very young child.”
"On Sunday afternoons the whole family would eat in the second room across the entrance foyer to the adjacent Billiards Hall. Soon after Grace died in 1957 the cafe was handed over to her daughter, Olive, but most of the hard work was done by Leonard and Grace’s granddaughter, who still lives in Kettering."

Great news guys! The art sale is back!
Following the great success of KettFest weekend the lovely Friends of Kettering Art Gallery and Museum are coming back to share their fantastic artwork with you.
This is a great opportunity to peruse and hopefully purchase some wonderful original and affordable local art pieces, this Sunday 12th August from 10am till 3pm 🌈🖼👩‍🎨

We love the tapas here. Nine dishes is just right for two people. And only £30!

We have been a few times for evening meal and breakfast. Food is lovely, staff nice and polite. We love that we can bring along our two very well behaved Border Terriers for breakfast after a nice walk �� we like to take them to lots of places with us, and kino lounge is brilliant and dog friendly.

Tried tapas for the first time and it was delicious!! Great prices and would recommend it there! ��

So today I have been craving some delicious comfort food and although they don’t deliver, I rang @Kinolounge and asked if I could order to collect as I love the Mac and cheese there. They informed me they are unable to do so as the Mac and cheese is too hot to put into plastic. Superstar George then took it upon himself to place my order and bring my food right to my desk to avoid me burning myself on the dish.



Thank you so much for your amazing service!!! We always take our clients there and this is just one reason we love the place! They go above and beyond! And you George are an absolute star!!!! @loungers you should be sooooo proud!

Love this place. Great food, the best pink lemonade, lovely staff and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Love the new vegan menu. Pulled jackfruit burger was delish. Please keep this on the menu forever!! Delightful staff , Erin especially.

Love the decor! Loved the food especially as it so hard sometimes to find a restaurant who does good vegan meals! Plus the staff were lovely!

I really like the Kino Lounge. I've had brunch here twice, and both times the food was lovely. It is a bit slow to arrive, but it's cooked to order and there's such a relaxed vibe, it's all good. If you want fast food, go to McDonald's. I'm a coeliac, and the staff all understand and make the appropriate changes and I wasn't ill either time, which is always a risk when eating food I haven't prepared!

I had an awesome birthday meal here last night and I can't rave about it enough! Staff were fab especially George who made my birthday treat extra special.....thoroughly recommended! And I'll be back!

Food was lovely. Nice choice of cool non alcoholic drinks. Just needs a fan or two in the heat. Definitely recommend the restaurant 😀👍

A group of Quiz lovers came Sunday night to try it out....I have been here numerous occasions in the day as their Lounge Eggs & Tapas are delicious.

Tried the soft drinks option & the Berry delight was sublime!... We found it to be a great atmosphere & loved the diversity of the questions... Icing on the Cake.. we came 2nd!

A perfect way to end the week & we will definitely become Quiz regulars..

4 of us dropped in Saturday afternoon for food & drink, we wasn't in a rush but that would be my only fault that the wait time for food was a little long. When it came I couldn't fault the food or customer service.. top class . So even with the wait it's 5🌟.

Very pleasant first visit. Very nice staff, speedy service and the food was very nice. Setting is interesting in a nice sort of way and the thing that I noted most of all is that although they could have got many more tables in, they have not done that, it's all nicely spaced out and as such, you don't feel cramped in like some places. We liked it and will be going back.

I do like the whole Lounge concept, although individual lounges do vary considerably.



I recently visited the Mercado Lounge in Market Harborough on a hot Saturday afternoon. It was spotlessly clean, staff were friendly and helpful, great selection of drinks and food (which was freshly cooked and arrived promptly). Overall great value and a great way to spend a couple of hours whilst shopping.



A few days later, I visited Kino Lounge in Kettering. On walking through the front door, I was met by a fog of toilet smells (even with the windows and doors wide open).



Floors throughout were dirty, looking like they hadn't been mopped in weeks, with smeared food, spilt drinks and a sticky residue everywhere. There were also flies feeding on abandoned food and the sticky floor - not hundreds, but that's not the point. Tables were very sticky to the touch, as though they hadn't been wiped adequately. We ordered drinks with ice and the glasses were "scooped" by hand into a tub of ice to fill them. This is how ice becomes contaminated.



If you can't get the basics like hygiene and housekeeping right, then it doesn't matter how good your atmosphere or food is.

Went for a cocktail on Friday lunchtime and it was awful! The guy that served us had no idea what he was doing and seemed to happily admit that, at one point even saying he 'couldn't be bothered' very unprofessional. The drink I ordered tasted nothing like what it should have done. Also very expensive ! Won't be returning

I'm usually a fan of Kino lounge but you let me down when I came for lunch yesterday.....



after waiting a while for the table to be cleared from the previous customer we ordered our food. We waited and waited and after around 50 minutes of waiting and watching everyone else's food coming out I asked how much longer we would have to wait, only to be told there was an error with the till and our order hadn't been passed to the kitchen(yet the people before and after us had not had the same problem). We were offered some more drinks while we waited but politely declined and asked for a refund.



The manager was apologetic but her response of "gosh you must be starving maybe next time you come you could say my name and use my staff discount or maybe get a free dessert or something" didn't really seem very professional.



Very disappointing Kino Lounge will think twice before coming again �

Overall great value and a great way to spend a couple of hours whilst shopping.



A few days later, I visited Kino Lounge in Kettering. On walking through the front door, I was met by a fog of toilet smells (even with the windows and doors wide open).



Floors throughout were dirty, looking like they hadn't been mopped in weeks, with smeared food, spilt drinks and a sticky residue everywhere. There were also flies feeding on abandoned food and the sticky floor - not hundreds, but that's not the point. Tables were very sticky to the touch, as though they hadn't been wiped adequately. We ordered drinks with ice and the glasses were "scooped" by hand into a tub of ice to fill them. This is how ice becomes contaminated.



If you can't get the basics like hygiene and housekeeping right, then it doesn't matter how good your atmosphere or food is.

Went for a cocktail on Friday lunchtime and it was awful! The guy that served us had no idea what he was doing and seemed to happily admit that, at one point even saying he 'couldn't be bothered' very unprofessional. The drink I ordered tasted nothing like what it should have done. Also very expensive ! Won't be returning

I'm usually a fan of Kino lounge but you let me down when I came for lunch yesterday.....



after waiting a while for the table to be cleared from the previous customer we ordered our food. We waited and waited and after around 50 minutes of waiting and watching everyone else's food coming out I asked how much longer we would have to wait, only to be told there was an error with the till and our order hadn't been passed to the kitchen(yet the people before and after us had not had the same problem). We were offered some more drinks while we waited but politely declined and asked for a refund.



The manager was apologetic but her response of "gosh you must be starving maybe next time you come you could say my name and use my staff discount or maybe get a free dessert or something" didn't really seem very professional.



Very disappointing Kino Lounge will think twice before coming again �
