What is Pilates?

Pilates is a mind body conditioning exercise programme which concentrates on the core or centre of the body.

Pilates is suitable for both men and women of all ages and abilities.

Pilates will keep you toned, improve your posture and improve your overall well being.

Pilates is named after its creator Joseph Pilates.

What do we mean by the core?

It refers to using and engaging the ‘centre’ to stabilise and protect the spine. Joseph Pilates referred to the centre as the ‘powerhouse’, the modern term used is ‘core stability’.

The goal is to create a stable spine and pelvis by working the deep abdominal muscles including the pelvic floor.
Working these muscles will strengthen and support the lumbar spine and will also help to reduce lower back pain.

What to expect in class?

LB Pilates classes are suitable for all abilities, and designed to strengthen, tone and balance the entire body. Together we will focus on form, alignment, and precision while performing flowing movements emphasizing specific muscle actions.

LB Pilates is a challenging workout using highly effective sequences of toning and resistance exercises with an emphasis on the core, arms, glutes and thighs by using the barre, light weights and various props.
