We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of our new education officer, Dr Chrissie Van Mierlo, who will develop an education outreach plan for the first phase of the project.
An experienced university teacher and academic author with a research background in literary studies, Chrissie has worked extensively in the museums and heritage sector, spending the past two years based at the award-winning Erewash Museum in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Her main areas of interest concern e...ducation and outreach, making local heritage accessible to the widest possible audience.
Chrissie said: “Having grown up in Oldham, a cotton town, and being from a family of millworkers, I’ve always had a passion for Britain’s industrial history. In the past couple of years, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the history of the Stanton ironworks, about which the Erewash Museum has significant holdings. What’s most exciting about this project, however, is the fact that the bellfoundry represents a living and breathing part of the Loughborough landscape, rather than being an historical ‘relic’! I’m very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this meaningful project and help save Britain’s last bellfoundry.”
Welcome to the team, Chrissie!

We may have been quiet recently, but we have been busy behind the scenes getting this stage of the project rolling!
