An interesting biomechanical issue unpacked this week.

This month has seen two patients with Trigeminal neuralgia (TN or TGN) pain free for the longest time in years. Both have had a pain free month and are very happy with treatment!
The trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve N) is responsible for the sensation in the face as well as some motor functions. On this condition, sharp intense bursts of pain travel along the forehead, cheek and jaw, lasting for a few seconds or in some cases weeks. Any slight pressure on the face, wiping with... a cloth or a cold wind can trigger an attack.
The cause is not fully understood; possibly damage to the myelin sheath of the nerve, or pressure along the nerve. Acupuncture along the path of the nerve is one method of treating this pain.
Both patients had approx. 5 sessions of acupuncture over a 3 month period and are currently pain free. Two or three top up sessions are advised every 6 weeks.
