A superb 130 opening partnership from Rod 72 and Tom 47 laid foundation for a total score for Mountsorrel seconds of 228-6 against blaby on Saturday , sorrel were asked to bat first after losing the toss , on a very warm afternoon the opening pair went about the task of building a score , gradually moving the total along and at the drinks break were a modest 69 without loss from 22 overs after the break because of the wickets in hand Rod and Tom began to increase the run rat...e and almost doubled the score in only 9 overs before Tom was dismissed for 47 , the scoring rate continued to rise when Rex went into bat reaching 50 in a short space of time , with a very quick outfield some tight line and length bowling was needed , but the pace of the bowling enabled blaby to take advantage of the conditions and were always up with the rate , it wasn’t until wahaj started his spell of slow spin later partnered by rod with the same that the rate slowed , wickets began to fall with attempts to pick up the rate , blaby finally all out for 186 , wahaj and rod with 3 wickets each plus 3 for jay who mopped up the tail , giving Mountsorrel a comfortable win in the end , a great day for Rod with his 72 and 3 wickets to go along with a catch at slip , one of three stunning catches close in from tom and dave

Winning the coin toss was an important attribute to Mountsorrel castle 2nd 11’s latest win on Saturday versus fleckney , a team sharing a similar mid table position in the league , having won the toss Mountsorrel chose to bat in hot challenging conditions , a steady start on a pitch which allowed the ball to come on nicely to the bat saw the first wicket share a stand of 94 before losing Mick Towell (51) , the fall of the wicket brought Nat Taylor to the crease who quickly se...t upon the fleckney bowlers scoring a rapid 31 before being bowled with the score at 140 , Rod Wood then followed Taylor to the pavilion 1 short of his 50 , the 2 occupants at the crease were now Curtis Neal and Andy Taylor who produced a stand of 99 , Neal eventually falling a a personal best 59 , his second 50 in successive games , with Taylor finishing on 53 no castle botched up an impressive 268-5 from their 45 overs , after tea the Mountsorrel bowlers rose to the task of bowling in equality testing warm weather , with an outstanding opening bowling spell from J Navsari and Pradeep steadily removing the fleckney batsmen Pradeep finishing with season best figures of 7-43 from his 12 overs . A superb innings from Curtis Neal gathering his maiden league 50 contributed to another very good victory for Mountsorrel castle second team against Narborough and littlethorpe on Saturday, After winning the toss Mountsorrel batted first on what turned out to be a very unpredictable wicket, losing early wickets Neal had to occupy the crease a lot sooner than anticipated, quickly though taking the attack to the opposition his runs started to flow , regularly finding the bounda...ry with some good strokes and Big hitting, ably assisted by Pradeep (27) and Vinod (25) Mountsorrel finished with a low but equally challenging score of 151 all out with Neal finishing on 57 , tight bowling was needed along with error free fielding to give Mountsorrel any chance , the tight bowling came with the overs of Sam Martin whose figures read 5-48 off a straight through 11 over spell , assisted by Pradeep and Newbrooks with 2 wickets each and a great all round fielding performance Narborough were bowled out for only 85 giving the 10 man castle side a well deserved victory!! Saturday saw the visit of shree sanatan to Mountsorrel castle to play the second team and due to various commitments only 9 players could take the field for the castle, after losing the toss Mountsorrel were asked to bat first, regular wickets started to fall and at one stage were 50-5 , a quick end to the day for “the 9 “ looked likely , but excellent performances from Vinod and Andy Taylor both scoring fifty the total gradually grew to finish at 201 all out , a good score b...ut with only “ the 9 “ taking the field it would take a miracle to keep shree sanatan from getting the score , well the miracle started to happen when early wickets started to fall , a fantastic never say die , not give in attitude along with team effort and support when things weren’t going so well meant that “the 9 “ were never out of contention , superb bowling spells from Pradeep , Taylor, Newbrooks and swinton especially his second spell which broke a big partnership enabled Taylor to wrap up the last two wickets giving Mountsorrel the most unlikely of wins, a miracle result and a great game for all who witnessed it , and for “ the 9 “ a game they will never forget being a part of !! Mountsorrel second team welcomed a visit from undefeated top of the table Thorpe Arnold Saturday and after losing the toss were asked to bat first on what turned out to be a lively seaming pitch , so much so that runs became difficult to score , a steady loss of wickets left Mountsorrel struggling but Duncan Martin and Wayne Newbrooks managed to stick around with Andy Taylor ( 44 no ) to add a valuable 20 odd runs at the end and with only one other contribution in double figu...res were all out for 107 , which never seemed enough to defend to a team that hadn’t lost a wicket in 2 of their 3 victories , but a superb opening spell from Jonti Pajwani and Jay Navsari in which early and steady wickets fell Thorpe Arnold were reduced to 63 for 9 with 25 overs still to go victory seemed certain , but when the final partnership started to bat out remaining overs whilst also scoring runs the result could’ve gone to either side, with only 7 overs to go and now only 9 runs needed newbrooks was able to grab the last wicket needed to inflict Thorpe Arnolds first defeat of season ,

Difficult first halves for both of our sides. Maher Stars taking advantage of a below-par fielding display to score 275-6 against the 1XI. Over at Narborough, our 2XI were bowled out for 120. Two big performances required. #SupportTheSorrel

After a fantastic 85 run win over local rivals Sileby Athletic on Thursday (D. Singer 66, D. Clarke 3-14). Both of our Saturday sides are in action today. The 1XI at home to Maher Stars and the 2XI away at Narborough & Littlethorpe. Let’s hope for two more wins to add to the tally! #SupportTheSorrel

Mountsorrel castle started their season with a loss away at shree sanatan , electing to field after winning the toss Mountsorrel restricted the Home to 119-9 off their 45 overs , Ikram the pick with 12 overs 2-18 , the total was aided with a number of wides (32) , batting second Mountsorrel never really looked comfortable chasing the total against good tight bowling and an unfavourable outfield and fell short all out 86 , disappointing start but go again next week , congratulations to first 11 on an impressive win against barrow

1ST XI: We have a contender for game of the season already at the Memorial Park. Put in to bat, Mountsorrel lost early wickets and found themselves 30-5 off 15 overs. A partnership from Shabaz and Izzy alongside a late knock from Wazim saw Sorrel at 156 AO at tea, Shabaz top scoring with 37. In their response, Barrow made a great start and were seemingly cruising at 110-1 off 31 overs. However, a superb tandem performance from Shiyan and Wahaj turned the game on the spin. Barrow fell to 148 AO in the 45th over meaning Sorrel won by 8 runs. Shiyan the pick of the bowlers with 12 overs, 4-23. #OneClub #SupportTheSorrel
