We'd like to give a huge thanks to the acts who made yesterday's NavFest such a pleasure to host! Cheers for all the support and donations you gave – once we have word on the total amount raised for Age UK, we'll post it on this page!
Saturday 12th September - keep that date free in your diaries! NavFest returns for it's second year with live music, great beers and it's all for a good cause - this year we're collecting for Age UK.
Tuesday 1st July: BBQ and Outdoor Bar serving real ales from 8pm with Morris Dancers performing at 8.30pm!
The Family Fun Day at the Navigation raised £500 for Breaston Scouts! The Friends of the Breaston Navigation organised the Family Fun Day which included a treasure hunt, raffle, BBQ and a variety of stalls including CAMRA and the Canal Trust. The weather was great with around 400 people attending. This great success generated £500 which was donated to the Breaston Scouts. The money will be used to help scouts to attend a Jamboree at Chatsworth in the summer of 2015.
Success!!! (October 2013)
Erewash Borough Council has listed The Navigation Inn, Breaston as an asset of Community Value under the Localism Act. This means that the community has the right to bid for the pub should Punch Taverns decide to sell.
The Friends of the Breaston Navi, who submitted the application, are delighted and so is the landlord, Peter Wadsworth, “A community and its residents have always been at the centre of everything that pubs do and I am proud to run a pu...b were this is so apparent. The effort and dedication the locals have put in has been outstanding, and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.”
In some ways the ‘hard work’ is just beginning. The Friends have already successfully held a fun day with a treasure hunt, raffle, BBQ and stalls which included a CAMRA stall and one by The Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust. The £500 surplus raised was donated to Breaston Scouts to enable scouts to attend a Jamboree at Chatsworth in 2015 who would not otherwise be able to go. More community events are being planned.
And business plans are being made so that the community will be in a position to bid for the pub should the opportunity arise. Talks will take place with other groups who have been through the process. As a start, the team from the Anglers Arms in Bamford who recently set up a cooperative and bought their pub from Admiral Taverns have offered to share their experiences.
There is new life and energy around the Navi. So, whether the community buys the pub in the future or not, the benefits of community activity and involvement are already being felt. The Friends plan to support other village groups and events from now on.
