Ninjutsu Northampton has now moved to a Friday night, instead of a Tuesday. My work in Security training has meant that due to me working in London and other places it is not always possible to get back to run a class during the week. The Friday however offers several advantages. We have more room, a quieter hall (No Badmington), better parking and of course no work the next morning so more time in the pub. Hope to see new people there as we work through the samurai arts of K...ukishinden Ryu Happo Biken, Takagi Yoshin Ryu, and the Ninja schools of Gyokko Ryu, Koto Ryu and Togakure Ryu. Traditional martial lineages directly from Japan and dating back to the period of the waring states when Samurai fought hand to hand on battlefields and the Shinobi no mono (Ninja) spied on their enemies, gathered information, and sowed the seeds of fear and confusion.

Over the last few weeks we hae been working on traditional samurai techniques and how they relate to modern street defence. Lots of defences against punches, grapples and knives.

Had a few new beginners over the last few weeks so we have been working on some of the very basic techniques of Ninjutsu. Basic rolls (Kaiten), postures (Kamae), methods of receiving strikes (Uke Gata) and some of the kihon happo (8 basic techniques including striking and joint locking and takedown). We have even moved on to some short stick techniques (Hanbojutsu). Don't miss out on learning these warrior techniques. Enroll now.

This Tuesday is our three monthly visit from Norman Smithers Dai Shihan (15th Dan). With nearly thirty visits to Japan training with the masters this is going to be a good night. Be there Tuesday 17th July 2018.

Can I say congratulation to Ee Beng Lam for getting his 6th dan from Norman. You may remember Lam as he has visited a few times to our dojo here in Northampton and indeed some of you may have trained with him. Also congratulations to Adam Boissinot for achieving 4th Dan. Those that attended the black belt trainings under Norman will know Adam.

Join us tonight as we begin to teach Ninjutsu from the basics, otherwise known as the kihon. The kihon forms the very building blocks of the three levels of Ninjutsu namely (Ten Chi Jin Ryaku No Maki: Scroll of Heaven, Earth and Man) The techniques of the first scroll cover the basics of striking and receiving strikes, arm and wrist locks, basic throws, break falling and rolling and avoidance techniques. This is the curriculum that makes up your black belt Shodan. Of course you will also be taught knife defence, short staff and the basics of the sword as well as being introduced to the other Ryu ha (Martial schools) that we teach. See you there.

Tomorrow night we start looking at the Ninja Skills connected through Ninja Master Sandayu Momochi. Momochi was a Ninja master in the 16th Century. He was grandmaster of two schools of Combat, namely Gyokko Ryu and Koto Ryu. We are so lucky that those two schools of martial arts have been passed down to us through Masaaki Hatsumi and that we have the scrolls (Makimono) and Books (Densho) that allow us to learn and master the techniques. The schools are different from each oth...er but connected. Koto Ryu teaches us how to survive against surprise attacks by an enemy and how to make surprise attacks against an enemy. The techniques are fast, efficient, and to to the point. Gyokko Ryu on the other hand teaches us how to defend against a proficient fighter by wearing him down utilising attacks against his muscles, organs and nerves. Join us as we explore these deadly techniques of Ninjutsu.
