Its been a while since we have posted anything but thats not because we don’t have anything going on, in fact quite the opposite. Here are a few pics of recent and ongoing projects.

We were over in Kirkistown NI on Tuesday for a bit of track support on the DMRR Escort. Sounding sweet even on low boost in the torrential rain. #northamptonmotorsport #liferacing #f88 #hewland #irsescort #1600turbo

Some hi techie techie stuff going on in the workshop on Friday. For the last 5 years we have been looking after a Formula 3000 car that has been converted to run an AER P14 engine which is based on the Nissan VQ 30. As far as we know its the only car that has been converted to run this engine. We now have another customer from Belgium who has bought a Lola chassis minus the original Zytek V8 engine and has asked us to carry out the same conversion on his car. The original co...nversion was carried out by an unknown 3rd party so the first part of the project involved getting all the relevant parts and mounting brackets 3d scanned by Redesign sport. Redesign have used us for rolling road work in the past and also look after a number of classic cars but the main focus of their business is hi spec reverse engineering. They use some of the most sophisticated equipment on the market to generate full 3 d models and cad files. They can check alignment and compatibility of the components before generating a cad file to be passed on for manufacture of the necessary parts. #northamptonmotorsport #redesignsport #3dscanning #lola #f3000 #advancedengineresearch #liferacing

Guys car on the dyno

User

Another stunning seven on the dyno this week. Guy Foulgers 2.0 XE originally had a Webcon engine management system but problems with this old tech system necessitated a swap to something up to date and versatile. We supplied Guy with a Omex 600 ECU and semi assembled loom and he installed the system re using most of the original hard ware. We mapped the engine on Thursday and checked cold start and idle valve settings on Friday. Considering Guy built the engine over 10 years ago it was still making a healthy 220 bhp and 174 ft lbs of torque with super smooth drive ability. #northamptonmotorsport #omextechnology #caterham #seven #omexenginemanagement

We had this super tidy Caterham on the rollers this week for some testing on induction lengths and a map check. The engine was a bit down on power from where the spec would suggest it would be and after a bit of investigation we found the engine oil level to be overfull by more than a litre. Once we got the excess out and the oil at the correct level the engine instantly gained 15 hp.

A quick road test confirms that a LSD is needed.

Not your average bug. Steve Hallett has built this space frame chassis with a beetle body and its packing 4.2 ltrs of Audi V8.

You know your not going to get your westy back on track anytime soon when the lads decide to stash it on top of the office to make some more workshop space. #sadface

2 totally different Fiesta’s in today for mapping, apart from both being Fords and both running Omex 600 engine management that is where the similarity ends. Sam Law’s 2.0 duratec made made 214 bhp when it was on throttle bodies but now with a new engine built by Phil Goodrich and supercharger kit it kicks out a useful 384. Rickys mk 7 1600 Sigma races in BARC tin tops and he was leading the championship prior to a couple of DNF’s at the last 2 rounds so it was time for a quick map check to make sure its all 100% before the final push for the championship. #northamptonmotorsport #omextechnology #rollingroad #rotrex #jenveydynamics #philgoodrichengines

We are blessed in the UK with rich heritage of superb classic cars and there’s nothing like a bit of light weight Lotus to get the juices flowing. This little Elan has been lovingly restored and after a bit of love on the Northampton motorsport rollers is performing as good as it looks.

Chalk and cheese? The afternoon booking was this March 78B Formula Atlantic with a 1600 BDA.

Another happy customer this morning with this Gardner Douglass Cobra. An initial dyno run and inspection revealed the distributor advance mechanism wasn’t working correctly. After removing, stripping and repairing the dizzy we retimed the ignition and found 80 ft lbs of torque and 45 hp. Should be a bit mire sprightly on the way back to Leicester.
