This a great opportunity to talk about problems with a work-in-progress, turn the shadow of an idea into words on paper, get ideas for starting something new, work through an issue with a character or even figure out what kind of writing really interests you. Wondering what to do this Halloween? Come along to a night of storytelling and socialising with Sarah "spooky" Hindmarsh at NWS!
Fancy joining in on Session 2 of the craft of writing? In this session, we'll be exploring whether adverbs and adjectives are needed in our writing. These workshops are heavily discussion-based followed by a half hour writing sprint and are suited to writers at all levels.

Ghost stories, camp fire food and great company - what more could you want for Halloween?
Join the chair of the board "Spooky" Sarah Hindmarsh for a devilishly good night of storytelling and socialising.
There'll be a (digital) camp fire to tell stories around, soft drinks and snacks to suit most people (do let us know if you have any special requirements) and of course the star of the show - the stories. We want to hear those ghost stories so do bring one along to tell.
... Entry is ┬Ż3 if you jut want to listen or you are bringing a story written by someone else and completely FREE if you bring an original story written by you.
Participants can bring their own alcohol if they wish.

This session, led by award-winning author Bali Rai, will focus on how emotion can be used to create better story arcs and stronger plots for novels. The workshop will delve into the importance of understanding a character's primary motivations for engaging with a plot, namely their emotional motivation for getting involved in the drama about to unfold. When faced with perilous or difficult situations, why do characters engage? Why not just turn away? Emotion is the best seed ...for producing fantastic story arcs and Bali's workshop will show why and how.
By the end of this session you will understand:
1. the importance of emotions within stories and novels;
2. how story arcs, plots and sub plots work;
3. character motivation and angagement;
4. how to develop stronger plots and avoid dead ends.

About the event WriterŌĆÖs block is something that afflicts most writers at some time or another. A writer can find themselves unable ŌĆō or unwilling ŌĆō to write for long periods, ranging from days to years.
There are many symptoms - procrastination, half-finished pieces with no enthusiasm to continue them, not knowing which project to start on next so not starting any of them, making excuses, twinges of guilt when someone asks how the writing is going, endless hours writing, del...eting and re-writing the same sentence time and again.
It doesnŌĆÖt have to be that way!
Join the chair of our board Sarah Hindmarsh for a three hour master class on how to banish writerŌĆÖs block forever.
YouŌĆÖll learn how to identify and tackle the cause of your writerŌĆÖs block, how to defeat the inner demons that stop you writing, or limit your writing, and how to make sure that you always have ideas ready and waiting to pour out onto the page when you sit down to write.
