Nottinghamshire Fire And Rescue Service Description

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) looks after more than one million people every day, with the aim of making Nottingham city and the county of Nottinghamshire safer places to live, work and visit.

A team of over 1, 000 people support this work from a variety of locations. Much of our work is focused on preventing accidents and injuries through education and safety intervention. We also work closely with local businesses and landlords to help them meet their statutory fire safety responsibilities towards staff, customers and visitors.

The work of our firefighters may seem obvious, but they perform a variety of duties when not responding to emergency calls, such as carrying out home safety checks and business property inspections, giving advice on safety and talking to young people about how to keep themselves, and their families, out of harm’s way.

Behind the scenes are the Fire Control operators who are vital to anyone dialling 999 in an emergency and a team of support staff in roles such as human resources, finance, performance monitoring, ICT, estate management, administration and communications.

We are run by the Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Fire Authority and the local councillors (our Members) who are elected to its various committees.
