At oaktree garage we are always keeping up with the forever changing automotive industry and last week we took delivery of our brand new HFO-1234YF air conditioning machine, so we can now service the air conditioning systems in all brand new cars. As of January 2017 all new cars have this new system on by law and the old air conditioning gas can not be used. This gas has been used by certain manufacturers from early as 2011. Does using the right grade oil in your car really matter? The right answer is YES! So many people are still using the incorrect oil in there car and not understanding how important it is. But at Oaktree we always make sure we are using the correct engine oil that the manufacturer recommends.
Here is an example of an audi that we had in this week. The customer complained of a 'knocking' noise from the engine. We diagnosed the fault as being a damaged camshaft and follower as ...the picture shows. This is due to the wrong oil being used creating premature failure of the camshaft follower. This is caused by the oil creating excessive friction between the follower and camshaft lobe. This resulted in us having to replace the camshaft, camshaft followers, camshaft bearings and also the cambelt. All because the wrong oil has been used in this vehicle.

This week we recovered a vehicle due to lack of oil pressure and further investigation found it was a result of a build up of carbon deposits blocking the oil pick up pipe / strainer.
Over time you will get a blow by gas that comes from the combustion chamber that slips past the piston rings and leaves a carbon deposit in the oil; this contaminates the oil and causes a... blockage. This shows the importance of changing your oil and servicing your vehicle regularly, as this easy mistake has resulted in a full engine rebuild costing the customer a lot of money £££.
