About Oscar'S Inn

Oscar's Inn - a country pub in town!

Oscar'S Inn Description

Whether you fancy a quiet drink with your pooch in a comfy chair by the fire, or bringing a few friends for a feast of pizza and good beer - you can feel relaxed and at home within the surroundings of Oscar's!
The pub is named after the owners dog; a German short-haired pointer, whose portrait hangs in the swing board out the front. The two bars have been themed on famous Oscar's - Peterson and Wilde.
A limited lunch menu is served throughout the day until 6pm, with the signature dish of giant 16 inch square sharing pizzas served until 10pm. A great selection of real ales, traditional ciders, craft lagers and fine wines are readily available. Oscar's hosts a variety of live music events on weekends in the Peterson Bar, including contemporary piano, jazz and rhythm and blues.
Weekly events are posted on our Facebook page so you need never miss out! !

Originally from England, Clive Wilson arrived in New Orleans in 1964 and eventually settled in New Orleans, studying trumpet with some of the legends such as Kid Howard, DeDe Pierce, Punch Miller and Alvin Alcorn. He gained further experience as a member of the Young Tuxedo Brass Band and the orchestra of Papa French.
Since forming the Original Camellia Jazz Band in 1979, Clive has toured and recorded many times with the clarinetist Herb Hall and the pianist Jeanette Kimball.
In 2001, he assembled the New Orleans Serenaders with the pianist Butch Thompson, initially to celebrate the centennial of Louis Armstrong's birth. From their success at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, this band has toured in Britain, and played at many jazz festivals in Switzerland.

We were a large party there to celebrate a birthday. We had pre-ordered our food, which was all excellent, could not believe the size of the pizzas! The staff were friendly very attentive. The live music was an added bonus, great tunes but not so loud you couldn't still chat. Fantastic night all round, great to see Oscar too.

We went to Newark yesterday for a change of scenery and as the Oscar's Inn was recommended by a very good friend who lives close by, we thought we try it for a few drinks and some lunch. I must say, we were impressed. The pub is lovely, gives a very warm welcome and it feels cosy. The staff is very friendly and I love the fact, that dogs are welcome as well. My husband loves real ale and he was spoilt for choice :-). The food we had was delicous. We live in Mansfield and it may be a little bit further to travel, but, it is definately worth it. We will be back!!!!! Merry Christmas.

User

This is our local now, and we regularly bring our kids and our feisty little shitzu for the spectacular pizza! It's a lovely warm friendly atmosphere and we are always made very welcome. The real ales are very tasty and the wine's not bad either 😜🍷

User

This is a great place to stop off and have a drink in very pleasant surroundings with friendly staff who are caring. We had our second meal their last night, wow what a pizza cooked to perfection we had sat next to a very friendly couple who had a great looking meal, we got chatting to them after we had all finished eating, they only turned out to be the owners a real pleasure to have met them, can’t recommend this place any higher it is a must to visit this is five stars.

User

Lovely pizza! Really nice beer. Friendly service. Clean loos. There is nothing bad to say about this place apart from i live in the west mids and its to far away for me to visit as often as i would like. Also dog friendly! And my little terrier loves the pizza too!

User

Lesley and all of the team could not have been more helpful when I arranged a 30th birthday gathering at oscars. All food was Oren ordered, cake out at the same time, was piping hot and delicious! (Even the pizza I forgot to order oops!) every question they answered and allowed me to bring balloons, decorations and our own birthday cake! Even supplying candles when ours failed. Will certainly be back here again! Thankyou :)

User

Had our third new years eve in Oscars. Unfortunately we were just too late to have one the amazing pizzas so had to make do with crisps and nuts. The entertainment was amazing and we did get treated to snacks and a glass to toast the new year. Great night had by all.

User

Great place, with fantastic staff. We were all well looked after during our Christmas gathering in the Peterson bar. The food was amazing as usual and everyone had a fantastic night. Thank you Lesley, David and the whole team for making our night run so smoothly xx

User

Great friendly pub with lovely staff.. lovely decor and an amazing Sunday lunch with huge Yorkshire puds !!! Really friendly towards Oscar, our German Pointer; that sold it for me!

User

Great food at great prices , well worth the money , I was able to take my dog in the bar area which is fantastic the only thing I could say to improve would be the staff don't get me wrong they were very friendly but the server spilt a whole latte all over the floor and all over my friends hand bag and not even an apology , service was slow and a little mixed up (no cutlery, didn't wait to hear if we wanted any ketchup mayo etc) apart from that it's def a place I would go to again if I was in the area x

User

Friendly pub where dogs are allowed. Friendly helpful staff, very clean and superb meal and dessert. They have a brilliant chef. Good all round pub forgot to add plenty of parking as well

User

Fantastic large pizza which the lovely friendly staff boxed up for us to bring home as plenty left. Like that you can choose half & half with different toppings. Was lovely sat outside in the sunshine with a cold lager.

User

A really amazing pub!!! I am vegan and although there were no options on the menu both times I visited they made me a dish- fresh and wonderfully tasty... couldn’t recommend enough

User

My friend and I went for pizza. A Thursday evening . Told there was a wait for an hour which was fine . Ordered our Pizza which was to be a half and half. On arrival it was more like a quarter and three quarters and very over cooked. The base was hard and difficult to cut and the topping not what expected. I have eaten there lots before and always been excellent so needless to say very disappointing.

User

It’s nice place to enjoy a drink. They sometimes have live music, with a good choice of beers , lager and ciders. They offer a great pizza menu The staff are friendly and inviting. The only down side is that some of the beers are a little expensive compared with some other pubs in the town.

User

Good selection of beers but pizzas have definitely gone down hill. Way too much crust and not enough toppings, they used to be fab and what the pub was know for. Dessert menu way too expensive.

Visited Oscars at 5:45 pm tonight with parents and children for a birthday meal.

Despite talking to the staff twice today regarding our visit (to check that they had gluten free dough) and one of the phone calls only being 20 minutes before our arrival we got there only to be told that the kitchen had closed for the next 90 minutes due to a large party they were having in the other room (not sure what time this party was on, as I looked through the window when we left and there was 4 people in the room...)

Surely they could have mentioned this on the phone when I spoke with them, or maybe you could consider posting a message on Facebook page, I know not everyone uses social media but it would save some disappointment.

Left with a very disappointed and hungry family.

Seems to be losing it's special touch these days, and maybe should go back to focusing on what it used to do best. This is not the first time that we've come away from Oscar's lately being disappointed!

User

Shocking service today it is the last time I’ll go there. The manager was rude and unhelpful. 2 of the Pizzas were undercooked. Not child or dog friendly at all.
