A mature wild female buzzard was brought to Pride Veterinary Centre with damage to her left wing.
Following pain relief and supportive care, X-rays showed a fracture to her ulna. The X-rays were sent to an exotic specialist for full interpretation, along with being reviewed by our orthopaedic surgeon Rosario.
'Rosita' the buzzard was taken to theatre and closely monitored by our anaesthetist team whilst her fractured wing was repaired with an external fixator. She was given ...fluid therapy, antibiotics and further pain relief.
Once recovered she received regular crop feeds to ensure she was well nourished and hydrated.
Rosita is currently rehabilitating at a wildlife centre. In a few weeks the wing will be reviewed by Rossario and the external fixator (metal work) will start to be removed once the bone has fully healed.
We hope Rosita makes a full recovery to be released back into the wild in the near future.

Beautiful Amber with her gorgeous "overspill" of cuteness got lovely cuddles from Line Manager Jenny this week (who delayed her lunch just so she could meet her!)
Jenny also has a young Viszla called Coco so she remembers these early days very well and could pass on some handy tips to Amber's new owners. We look forward to seeing Amber on her future socialisation visits to Pride Veterinary Centre.

The final stage of work will be completed today, as the parking bays and client parking areas are repainted.
Please be careful if you are visiting us today of wet paint and workers in the car park. Normal service will resume from tomorrow!

This little stray came in to us a few weeks ago, and was affectionately named Crusty by the team due to the scabs on his nose and ears. He’s a very old boy who had squamous cell carcinoma on his nose and ears, and was rehomed for end of life care.
He has now been renamed Rocky and we have just received this lovely update from him as he settles in to life in his new home:
“I’m loving all my cuddles and my nice dinners and I’ve made some friends. My humans love me and I love to sit on their knees and fall asleep. I can be a grump sometimes but no one listens to me. I make my humans laugh when I hiss as I have no teeth. Thank you for finding me my new home”

Being a part of our Oncology nursing team is a very varied and interesting role: covering a high level of care of inpatients along with monitoring, sedation or anaesthesia for imaging (inc. X-rays, ultrasound, CT and endoscopy) but also other medical procedures such as marrow biopsies.
Our medicine nurses play an integral role in caring for our oncology patients, both during their stay for a workup and for chemotherapy day visits. The patients’ regular visits build a bond bet...ween our nurses and their patients and they find this aspect very rewarding, especially when a happy, waggy tailed dog comes and greets them on their arrival!
Learn more about our Oncology nursing team at our referral nursing showcase on 18th September. Find out what their day to day job entails as well as having the opportunity to ask them questions. Book your place here: prideveterinarycentre.co.uk/nursing-showc ase

In case anyone has seen the facebook posts and articles going around about giving your dog ice cubes to cool them and the problems this may cause - we’d like to dispel this myth:
If your dog is fit and healthy, and not showing signs of heatstroke, using a couple of ice cubes to keep their water cool is not going to cause any detrimental health problems. They can even have an ice cube to play with.
The problems that have been reported on Facebook are when dogs that are already... suffering from heatstroke or hyperthermia and have been given iced water in an attempt to cool them down. This cools them down too quickly and can potentially send their body in to shock.
If your dog is overheating or suffering from heatstroke, then please seek veterinary care as soon as possible
For more information about heatstroke and tips for the summer, please read these articles: http://bit.ly/summer-pet-care http://bit.ly/2NJYxMc

We were referred to Pride as our Golden Retriever Spencer was really unwell and our vets could not find out what was causing him to be so unwell.

Right from our very first port of contact with Pride we have had nothing but excellent service.

Spencer was very quickly diagnosed with Lymphoma in his kidneys and liver.

He is undergoing weekly chemotherapy treatment there.

All the staff are great!

Tiago has been amazing and all those looking after Spencer treat him (and his favourite cuddly toy Polar Bear) with love, care and compassion.

I highly recommend them. I only wish I lived closer so they could be my regular vets.

User

We cannot thank you enough for the care and treatment that you have given to our little Max over the past couple of days. The staff have all been so professional and have treated us with such compassion at what has been a very difficult time. Thank you to everyone involved especially to Ines who operated on Max yesterday..... From the bottom of my heart. Thank you x

The word amazing springs to mind here... My girlfriend and I have a two year old husky named Ghost, on Friday night ghost suddenly lost all control over his back legs he could not function them what so ever, we took him to our local vets and the referred us to Pride. When we arrived there the staff members were so helpful. They rushed a stretcher to us so we could get ghost where he needed to be. After probably a five minute wait a lovely vet came to speak to us. We explained what had happened. John (The vet) was very calming and re assuring, Ghost was then on his way to get an MRI scan. After a very worrying few hours of waiting in the waiting room we was told that the procedure was taking a little longer than expected (understandable as these things take time) meanwhile my Girlfriend and I managed to chat with the receptionist's who were also Amazing. They were bringing my 8 month pregnant girlfriend water as often as possible, I would just like to thank EVERY member of staff at Pride for everything you've done for us this weekend! Ghost is well on the mend and will be bombing about again in no time! Worth every penny!

The two neurosurgeons who looked after George this week were fantastic. I felt really comfortable leaving him in their care after I saw the way they were with him on the consult when he was very agitated and in a lot of pain. They knew immediately what the issue was and it was dealt with very quickly. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone

User

Our Jack Russell was referred here today from Lincoln as he had got some raw hide stuck in his Oesophagus and our vet could not get it out, the treatment we and he received was second to none, he was treated by Marc Dhumeaux and another young lady (sorry I didn't get her name) who were nothing but professional going through absolutely everything with us and all they could say was they would do their best, as we left I didn't think we would see our dog again but 1 hour later got the phone call to say they had managed to remove it and we could collect our dog 3 hours later!!! I said thank you at the time but really just want to reiterate how eternally grateful we are! Absolutely fantastic!!!

User

My shar pei puppy was referred and admitted wednesday night with possible pneumonia and dehydration following boas surgery from my own vets. i really thought my girl wasnt going to make it as she was so poorly. User

My little French bulldog puppy Luna has just come home after a 4 night stay here. The staff are fantastic, from the friendly receptionists that seem to love every animal that comes through the door, to the vets we see at initial consultation, to the 24/7 care they provide. We received twice daily updates as to how our little baby was doing, giving us all the details of how she was and what treatment she was getting. Absolutely fantastic vets, so glad we picked Pride. Thank you for all your help and for looking after our girl so well. Can’t rate you highly enough!!

User

My kitty Nala has been with you since Friday after being hit by a car. Couldnt wish for a more loving and caring environment for her to recover. Huge thanks to all involved in caring for my little lady. Daily updates have helped to put my mind at rest and the staff and vets are wonderful. Nala is only 2 and we have never been apart and I know the staff have ensured Nala is comfortable and has somewhere to hide as she is very scared. Can't wait to get my baby home later today to finish recovering, even if it is minus her tail, lol. Would recommend to anyone with a pet. Also high five to Pet plan for making it so easy to get the care Nala has needed.

Last Saturday our little Foxy has an accident where she fractured her paw. We went to our regular vet that diagnosed her with no fracture and painkillers should do the job. After 24 hours of observing our little girl - nothing has changed. I decided to contact Pride Vet to seek second opinion. Thank God we went there! Foxy fractured her paw in 5 places. She is now wearing splinters and she will be up and running in 2/3wks time! Thank you for your help Pride Vets!

I took my poorly boy to them as a late emergency, the staff did an amazing job, unfortunately he didn’t survive, but I am comforted by the dedication and care he received and I know that everything possible was done for him. Thanks to every one who looked after my beautiful Spuggy.

User

I really can't thank pride enough especially Annette we was referred to pride by our own vets(who have also been amazing) as Charlie was displaying signs of meningitis.

Annette and the team was amazing they went above and beyond to help us and Charlie, if we ever needed anything explaining again as at the time it was alot to take in Annette would ring us back and talk us through and answer any questions we had,

It's been over 5 weeks now since Charlie was diagnosed with SRMA his dose lowered for the first time last Thursday and he is doing amazing he has started to play again and talk (hes always been a talker) im beginning to see our cheeky chappy again and I only have pride and our own vets to thank for that without the amazing care we received Charlie may not have been here with us today

Thankyou So very much to everyone who was involved in Charlie's care and recovery his future is looking bright and it's thanks to you.

Both my dachshunds have had to have back operations at Pride over the last few years and the team/s who have worked and cared for them have been terrific .... Sherlock was an emergency and was admitted and operated on during the Easter weekend two years ago. Watson, had his operation recently.....both dogs have made a full recovery ....Thank you to all of those involved.

Boomer our 3yr old German Shepherd was an emergency referral here last Fri 22/06/18.....He has been on medication for an ongoing illness. Then all of a sudden he couldn’t walk, stand and was having seizures.... John his vet was amazing and within 12 hours Boomer had slightly improved, he was treated for a severe allergic reaction to his antibiotics. Boomer was a inpatient for 4 days and came out walking and giddy it was a tearful moment. Still recovering but my boys home 💙

Always amazing service from Pride! Our puppy has been really unwell. Pride took amazing care of him! Aurelie always kept us up to date on how he was and what the next steps of his treatment would be! Today we collected him and he is back to his normal self and nearly back to his weight before he became unwell!! Laura in the insurance department had taken care of everything regarding the insurance and has always been so helpful with keeping us informed. Would highly recommend pride to anyone. It’s been such a worrying time and they’ve done everything they could to put us at ease!! Thankyou so much to everyone at Pride

User

I had to take my dog to the emergency vet last night as she was choking, originally I was recommended to have her x-rayed, scoped etc for an estimate of £2500. In the end we left with some medication which on top of the consultation came to £177.

The vet was lovely, I find Scarsdale’s prices ridiculous! However as an emergency after hours service they are good.

User

Very disappointed that I've had to ring and ring and ring to chase the whereabouts of results find out plans of action and chase money......i expected a better service from such a big and professional place. The front of house team were brilliant but vet seemed disinterested there's been a massive delay in processing my insurance claim and I am still waiting almost a month on. I wasn't told id have to pay a second excess and claim it back when first went so had to pay on a credit card for which I've now had to pay charges etc and I'm out of pocket....very very disappointed and in STILL waiting for a firm treatment/management plan

User

Great reception staff always pleasant and helpful .👍

Just not impressed with the vets . 👎☹️

Only got ten minutes sessions to see the vet to and cost £40 each time.

Don't think you get value for your money at this place wasn't please at all with service. 👎👎👎👎👎😡.

I took my poorly boy to them as a late emergency, the staff did an amazing job, unfortunately he didn’t survive, but I am comforted by the dedication and care he received and I know that everything possible was done for him. Thanks to every one who looked after my beautiful Spuggy.

Great reception staff always pleasant and helpful .👍

Just not impressed with the vets . 👎☹️

Only got ten minutes sessions to see the vet to and cost £40 each time.

Don't think you get value for your money at this place wasn't please at all with service. 👎👎👎👎👎😡.

My dachshund Belle has just undergone treatment for a slipped disc (MRI scan and surgery). I have been very impressed by the service Pride offer. I was kept informed throughout her treatment and regularly updated during her stay, all the staff were friendly and approachable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. A special thanks to John (her surgeon), and everyone who cared for her during her stay
